A top app making a big splash

One of the most hotly awaited apps for TouchPad hit the App Catalog earlier this week, where it’s been receiving rave reviews. Splashtop Remote Desktop HD lets you access whatever’s on your deskbound computer -- apps, streaming media hubs and other websites, data and other files -- right on your TouchPad, whether you’re on the road or just on the couch. If you’ve been waiting for a favorite app or website you love on your PC to land on the TouchPad, you needn’t wait any longer thanks to Splashtop.

You might have gotten an email recently offering a US promo code for a free copy of Splashtop, and you might have noticed that the codes were snapped up extremely quickly. If you missed out before, we’ve got another chance for you to snag Splashtop for free, with the codes below (including codes for France, the UK, and Germany as well).

We know these promotions are going quickly (and for those of you who have been asking how digital inventory can be finite, or who suspect there was only a tiny handful of codes to begin with – well, the first question is just too metaphysical for a Friday afternoon, and regarding the second question -- while the inventory is finite, it’s actually a pretty ginormous handful). Get an inside look at webOS

Ever since it burst on the scene in 2009, webOS as attracted fans and enthusiasts who wanted to find out more, get started developing apps, learn about homebrew options, or just get a look under the hood to understand what makes the OS tick.

That enthusiasm often proved contagious, with webOS fans connecting on social networks and in real-world get-togethers. Our developer relations team has also regularly hosted opportunities to meet the team and get an overview of the platform in cities around the world. (You can catch video highlights from events in New York, London, Berlin, Paris, and beyond on our YouTube channel.)

And recently, we kicked off a hybrid program that blends features from both our own official events and from informal grassroots meetups. If you’d like to spearhead a webOS Meetup in your area, you can get started here. After you've created a webOS Meetup group and help your first gathering, you could be tapped to become our next “webOS Ambassador.”

If you become a card-carrying webOS Ambassador (OK, there aren’t actual cards – but there are some other nifty perks), we’ll help you get the word out about your events, dangle some schwag at you for giveaways (app promo codes, t-shirts, and, yes, even rare and highly sought-after stickers) if you reel in a minimum number of attendees, and offer a point of contact to brainstorm ideas for everything from discussion topics to tips for hosting a successful event.

Good things (like promo codes) come to those who wait

We promised our non-U.S. TouchPad fans that we’d have some app promo codes for them too, and the first three are now available exclusively for users in Canada, the UK and Ireland. Once again, these are first-come, first-served, so grab them now -- previous codes for the U.S. were snapped up in a matter of hours.

A few reminders about promo codes:

• The codes below will not work for users in any countries other than Canada, the UK and Ireland.
