The Wall Street Journal agrees with the proverb: "Good things come in small packages: The Veer is loaded with the latest version of webOS, Palm's stylish, fun, delightfully smart operating system." PreCentral agrees, calling the Veer an “awesome tiny phone.” And starting today, you can get your HP Veer 4G -- in both black and white versions -- online now from AT&T or at AT&T stores starting tomorrow for $99.99 with a two-year contract.
Veer fits easily in your pocket or purse, but still offers the leading-edge features of the most powerful smartphones, like a great web experience and a real keyboard for fast texting and email. It supports everything on the webOS platform -- the intuitive user interface for multitasking, the built-in apps and the App Catalog, and also the ability to customize beyond that (if you're the outside-the-box type). Even leading app developers like WhitePages are enthusiastic about the flexible and powerful capabilities of the homebrew community to extend the functionality of apps using homebrew apps and patches from the community.
Here are a few more highlights from what the reviewers are saying:
The Wall Street Journal
“I loved the way the Veer fit perfectly in the palm of my hand in its closed position, and simple gestures let me navigate webOS using only the thumb of the same hand that held the device.....webOS handles Adobe Flash with ease.”
ZDNet
“…its not like the Veer’s small size makes it less capable… the phone is still quite clearly a smartphone.”
Engadget
"Small definitely has its advantages....There's something to be said for dropping a phone in a pants pocket and barely feeling a bulge."
webOSroundup
“You would think with a keyboard this size that it would be tough to use, but in this case HP/Palm deserves some major props....webOS really rocks on this little guy....performs extremely well, it is very well built, and it is, no question, an engineering marvel.”
Brighthand
“I'm surprised by how much I already like the HP Veer 4G, even though I've only had it for a few hours. After reviewing so many gigantic smartphones it's nice to use something more petite that takes up hardly any room in my pocket.”
Wired
"Magsafe-style charger -- why isn't this standard on all phones yet?"
If what you’re looking for is a powerful smartphone in a more compact size, Veer is for you. If your needs call for a bigger screen, stay tuned for TouchPad and Pre3. More details about HP Veer 4G can be found here or at AT&T.

Can we upgrade from a Palm Pixi Plus on AT&T to the Veer for the same price?

I want to wait and get the Pre 3, but I'm really tempted to get the Veer now!
Love the white coloring, hopefully the color options are standard in future products.

I'm an HP employee. Figure out some way to put these in our hands without us having to lock into a 2-yr AT&T contract.

I got a chance to play with one of these little babies yesterday at my AT&T store and I loved it! Great device and an awesome implementation for webOS. It's the baby bear of an iconic tech-infused family!
On a disappointing note, I was surprised that my AT&T store only received (1) Veer for the launch and one working demo unit. To make matters worse, all but one saleman in my local store were unaware of the Veer launch but were wearing "Infuse 4G" T-shirts. Also, the telephone sales person that I spoke to placed me on hold for 5 minutes while he researched this phone that he had never heard of. I had to order a Veer while in the store and I am now waiting patiently for mine. HP PLEASE advertise this phone on TV!!! The world needs to see this little gem in action at primetime!

AT&T is definitely a deal breaker. Open it up to any other carriers and I may be interested.

Went to check out the Veer at the ATT store in 14st Union Square, NYC. Turns out I was the first person to ask for it and it was around 3pm. To my surprise the phone wasn't even configured. Funny enough I had to do the login for the ATT employee, though she did enter the password herself, (she had like 1 inch nails)... My first impression was WoW this thing is way to small and just a cute little thing on its own world. It felt like a Mini Cooper. Definitely way faster then my Pre, the one commercially born on June 6, 2009. Keyboard wasn't that bad, the charger was a nice touch and the camera was good. It worked great and it felt solid. Forget web browsing and 3D gaming. Is just impossible for some apps. Apparently Hp and Microsoft see in a market in that form factor so let's see how it turns out. I left the story in a way feeling sorry for the little Mini right next to the Pixi and the Torch. Palm I will give you $200 just hit me with a Pre 3 on Sprint.

I really love this smartphone
it's cute and cool
but the big problem is the arabic support
i only need a keyboard that has arabic letters
android and ios support arabic very well
but the webos problem is that they got an external keyboard so it is not programming problem (it can be solved since it is open source os ) .. blackberry has arabic external keyboard + nokia + most of the companies ..
why not palm too ?!
I'm SAD :(

Too bad this isn't available on Verizon. I would seriously jump off the Android bandwagon.

The Veer is very cute but needs more publicity.
When will WebOS 2.2 be released for the Pre2 ?

There really is only one question...
Does it work worldwide, or is it another crippled palm toy?
(and as it is a smartphone, applications are key to it "working" so the app catalogue must work worldwide to)
so, is this a awesome new worldwide HP device... or another toy produced by the slowly dying palm legacy??
(I will watch this space for an answer :P )

I don't understand what market HP/Palm is thinking they're going for with the Veer (as cute as it may be). If anything, they need to release the Pre 3 ASAP and come out with a keyboardless Pre with a nice big screen. This is so ridiculously obvious it's not even funny. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this is what people want. HP/Palm marketing/sales/execs should all be fired for their choices of what devices to release.
This is all coming from a very frustrated long time Pre-1 user on Sprint (tired of waiting for an upgrade). Everybody will keep bailing on your platform unless you do something now HP/Palm. Not later...now!

www.MyHPad.com is a MUCH BETTER name for your tablet than TouchPad

Went to two ATT stores in downtown SF (3rd & Mkt and Westfield) yesterday. Neither has the Veer. I love my Pre +. The OS is a pleasure to use and the form is like a polished riverstone. Patiently waiting for the Pre 3 on Verizon. WIll not switch to ATT. Will I ever see ANY ads for these devices outside the tech sites & fan sites? Come on HP!

I finally got to try one. After 4 weeks and 3 trips, I was finally able to use one at the AT&T store. The screens were locked at first, and no one there knew how to unlock them. Luckily there were 2 little kids there who ran over and unlocked them. It looked good. I am only worried about not being able to turn 3G off (local tower problems). Amazon's wireless store has Veer's for 1 cent if you have an upgrade!
