Our friends at TechCrunch are reporting that President Obama is hankering for a cool phone -- one with "fancy buttons and stuff." They also note that it would be a swift PR move for a phone maker to take him up on it and just send him one. OK, challenge accepted.
But which one? That's where we need help from you. Obviously, the President of These United States will be wanting a device that runs the people's choice of mobile operating systems. Here's the rundown of options -- cast your vote in the comments. (Note to Chicagoans: one vote per person, please. That's how the rest of us do it.)
HP Veer: The Veer may be small, but it's plenty powerful for whatever's on your plate -- whether that's your personal life, your business, or balancing a trillion-dollar budget. And as one former resident of the Oval Office once noted, "The only thing we have to Veer is Veer itself." (We don't really know what ol' FDR meant by that either, but he was clearly ahead of his time.)
HP Pre3: What better phone for the flag-waver-in-chief than the next-generation edition of our flagship phone? Pre3 is a thin and powerful email engine with a beautiful touchscreen and slide-out keyboard -- perfect for taking the Oval Office mobile.
HP TouchPad: Let's face it: What with managing a superpower and all, the president has a pretty broad canvas to watch over. So maybe he'd prefer the wider perspective offered by the 9.7-inch TouchPad display. It's the first tablet powered by webOS, something the multitasker-in-chief will surely appreciate.
So what do you think would be best for President Obama? Veer? Pre3? TouchPad? Maybe a bipartisan coalition is the right solution? With HP's exclusive touch-to-share feature, he can use TouchPad with his Pre3 to easily share a URL, receive text messages and answer calls right from his TouchPad.
Let us know in the comments.

Is Obama expecting this cool new phone now? If yes, you can count out the veer, pre3, and touchpad.

POTUS is a man of power, he needs a Pre 3. With a super fast processor + front facing camera, he can do whatever he wants on the go. A great phone to replace that crappy blackberry he currently has....

Send him a Pre3 AND a Touchpad
Posted by: Trent | April 15, 2011 at 04:33 PM
Pre3 and a TouchPad would be an amazing combo!

Pre 3. The president would complain about the small screen too much I suspect...
The touchpad may be useful. You need to make sure it's SECURE 100%

Pre 3.
It has a larger screen, an autofocus camera that an do HD video recording, etc.
And if the battery life isn't better than the previous pre models, the removeable battery would be useful.

definitely a Pre3/Touch Pad combo.
you'll have to have the presidential emblem wallpaper built-in.

pre3 + touchpad

I would honestly go with all set, make him happy and his family.
You can make me happy too if you give me Pre3 as a tester which I so long waiting to have my hands on specially that we lack such products in Kuwait.
Totally agree, perfect PR for HP-Palm

Since the President asked for a phone I'd say that leaves the TouchPad out of the equation.
I prefer the Pre3, but I suspect that might change when I get to actually play with the Veer in person.

A Pre 3, and a Veer hidden in the sole of his shoe. YES WE CAN

TouchPad with Pre3

I'm sure there is a working Pre3 and a TouchPad sitting at HP that they could supply to the Oval Office. What better PR do you need other than the president using your products?

Pre 3 and touchpad for him, Veers for Sasha and Malia. Maybe just a touchpad for Michelle

Ditto to Trent. Pre 3 and Touchpad.
Posted by: Ray Sheehan | April 15, 2011 at 05:46 PM
Pre3 might be okay but only if the battery life is more than 10mins which is the problem with the first Pre - ridiculously short battery life to the point of being a annoyingly bad!

HP Veer: A little phone for a little man.

Pre3 it would definitely make magic happen
Posted by: kamiue | April 15, 2011 at 07:22 PM
To really do it right, give him the Pre3, his wife the TouchPad and his two daughters a Veer each. Then activate them all on Verizon so they can actually talk to each other.

I agree with most and say: pre3 + touchpad

I think a Pre 3 AND TouchPad is in order. Does he have to wait until a phantom date too?
Posted by: Jabari | April 15, 2011 at 09:59 PM
Give a release date for ANY of these devices, then we can talk about POTUS' new gadgets.
Posted by: Franklin | April 15, 2011 at 10:57 PM
easy one. no one cares about your president, just send the shizzle to your legacy users (do things right).
Posted by: hux | April 16, 2011 at 01:09 AM
Send a Pre 3 and a Touchpad, and make sure to write down my address as the sender just in case he doesn't want it.

Give him a Pre 3 so that he can watch concerts wherever he is, and have more time for Angry Birds. I think that TouchPad would be an excellent choice for corporate email, but secret service have already advised him not to use email, so probably a Pre 3 would be a better choice.
On the other hand, if it is good enough for Jon Rubinstein, I'm sure the Veer is good enough for the Commander-In-Chief.
