Verizon Wireless today announced that the Pre 2 smartphone will be available in Verizon Wireless stores and online on February 17. You can also pre-order it now here if you're anxious to get your hands on this powerful phone featuring webOS 2.0, including true multitasking, HP Synergy, Just Type and support for an Adobe Flash Player 10.1 beta in the browser.

Umm. Where are all the update/flash comments? Just kidding. Waiting for a Veer or Pre 3. Ahh, decisions, decisions.

Do you have a date about WebOS2.0 availability to older Palm pre+?

Don't want to rain on your parade, but it's hard to get excited about the Pre 2 when we know there is a Pre 3 :) Maybe 4 months ago I'd have even considered switching to Verizon for this, but I'm sticking with Sprint and my original Pre until I hear the official carrier announcement for the Pre 3.

Anthony, there will be no WebOS2 for you!
No soup for you, either.

what is the point of any of us buying this phone? i love webOS. i love it. but seriously hp? give us some incentive to buy this phone so we can all enjoy 2.0. i am not signing a 2 year contract with this phone when the pre3 comes out so soon, but i would be willing to spend say $100 or less out of contract to get this phone, even for just a few months. in my opinion, the only OS that is worth getting now besides web OS is iOS. rim and android are garbage. i don't want to jump ship, but i'm not going down with it. please do something soon, even if we don't agree with it. we're sick of waiting.

Considering the Pre 3 was recently announced for Summer and getting the Pre 2 would require a contract... why should anyone extend a contract for /two years/ right now?
Or is the Pre 3 going to come out as late after the expected arrival as the Pre 2 has?
For me, I'll be waiting on my Pre+ until January when I'm eligible for a contract. Hopefully by then the Pre 3 is available through Verizon. (Or, more hopefully, a GSM version is available back on T-Mobile.)

you should make an announcement about what you're going to do about lying about giving us a flash update on our pre pluses and then lying about giving us a webos 2.0 update on our phones not interested in anything else until you make that right which if the past proves anything you won't make it right

Got the unlocked version in January so that I could stay on my T-Mobile family plan. This is a TERRIFIC phone with an exceptional operating system. It has all the features I need and the apps I need. I've completely abandoned my iPod and considering abandoning iTunes altogether (most of my old tunes are uploaded to iTunes from CDs anyway). And it is the RIGHT size -- perfect for the pocket. Of course, mine is still labelled a "Palm" because of the time when I ordered it. Thank you HP Palm. I'm so happy I waited for this unlocked Pre2 (previous phone was a wonderful Treo 680). I'm looking forward to the notepad computers.

So HP, please tell me any arguments, why should i buy a palm pre 2 at least? We all know that there are 2 totally new HP smartphones on start. At 9th February 2011 you told us all that you won´t provied the older smartphones like pre and pre plus anymore. No update up to WebOS 2.0. Why should i now buy an oldfashioned smartphone instead of using my "old" Palm Pre till the new ones will be sold?
I think, it was a nice try to copy typical apple presentations and try to do it same way. It was only a try by you. HP is not able to support older hardware, not able to sell the new smartphones and pads in a acceptable timeline. So why should i buy any of those new items? There is no pro argument, only against. So HP, please come down, stop dreaming and start thinking like professional Developer.

Hands down: Will there ever be a "german flavor" of the Pre2 with QWERTZ keyboard? I'm still waiting for that and my little Pre Plus is starting to break down. :(

Seriously HP, your business model is terrible. Pre-order a Pre2 when the Pre3 is just months away? You've neglected the original Pre and Pre-Plus by not offering webOS 2.0. I'm only waiting for July so that I can get out of my current Sprint contract and opt for a different phone and maybe different carrier.

"First off, the decision not to release webOS 2.0 for the Pre and Pixi was incredibly tough, knowing that we couldn’t deliver the latest and greatest to people that supported webOS from the very beginning."
This incredibly shortsighted decision has cost you a customer for life.
I hope that all of the developers reading this blog understand that the WebOS userbase is rapidly approaching zero. Ask them how many active profiles there are. Do you trust HP to rebuild an entire community? I give them 2 years before they abandon the Smartphone market just like they did before. Ask an iPAQ user. Look at what they did to their camera and calculator divisions.

Pre 3 needs to come out before the iPhone 5. The 1st Pre was announced in Jan.& was released in June because some idiot thought it was the smart thing to do. Now Pre was announced this Feb.& we still have to wait until June? We should have it in our hands in April-May the latest. Stop giving competitors enough time to come up with a phone or marketing strategy that will eclipse the Pre when released. Mark my words, release the Pre 3 in June & watch Apple release the iPhone 5 the following day to bury you...its not rocket science.

We want the Pre 3 please. Release it before the Veer. I'm sorry, but no one wants the Pre 2.

Is there any unbiased reason for buying a Pre2 and entering into or extending your contract for 2 years? The Veer, Pre3 and Touchpad will be out by summer (according to HP) and the Pre2 will be obsolete then. Based on HP's recent treatment of their customers, despite assurances that the Pre2 will be included in future WebOS updates, the fact is that the Pre2 has different hardware than the Veer, Pre3, and Touchpad. This is the excuse HP gave for not including Pre/Pixi/Pre+/Pixi+ in the WebOS 2.X update. HP will instantly EOL the Pre2 at the first sign of any difficulty updating it to the latest WebOS. (The over-under on this is 8 months before the Pre2 is EOL and will receive no further updates, about 14 months from release to death.) That's about the same time the Pre+ was on the market before it was cut loose; Pre enjoyed almost 2 full years before the axe fell.
HP/Palm needs to have an official release stating the reasons to upgrade from a Pre/Pixi/Pre+/Pixi+ to a Pre2. Getting into the WebOS game isn't enough when it's going to lock you into the phone for 2 years with newer, better, more capable, and (hopefully) longer supported devices will be out "in the coming months".

Knowing the production run of the Pre 2 is complete and that no one in their right mind would buy a phone that is obsolete before it hits the store, I held out some hope that the "something special" HP would do for us legacy phone holders is let us clear the inventory for a token amount. I guess that will not happen. It is going to take some cruel Verizon sales reps and ignorant customers to move this phone at $150.

I would buy the Pre 2, if it were available in Germany.
Posted by: Joerg | February 15, 2011 at 10:18 PM
Will Pre2 get upgraded to WebOS 3.0 after TouchPad comes out? If you don't keep your promises on updating Pre-/+ and Pixi-/+ what's to make us feel confident that Pre2 (the last Palm branded phone) will be continue to be supported too? Or will Pre2 users be soon abandoned since they too have a non HP branded phone?

Still waiting for our: "We’re working on something that we hope will help make things right for you."
I'm really hoping it isn't this.

What is the replacement devise of the PDA M515 and does it require an internet program charge?
Posted by: Doyle | February 16, 2011 at 10:24 AM
new over old? abandon old phone customers?
well, at lease this is consistent with terrible customer service (i called palm, was on hold as the same U2 song repeated over and over, no one answered).
and as of today, new vids. uploaded to Youtube won't play on my Palm Pre!
why should i not switch to another brand of phone?

WOW! You're kidding me!?! Like I would go to Verizon after you have released news for the P3? Or even buy the P2? Be real and moth ball it. Plus, you've already alienated we 'old' Palm users and then the newer WebOS users due to lack of support to earlier Pre versions, how do you expect customer loyalty to turn to a P2? Please start shooting straight.

Sprint Please........!

wow, what a bunch of geniuses running this company. with every decision you think they can't do anything more moronic and then you see this.
seriously, the management must be planted here by other companies to make this fail.

Verizon does not show a 'wifi hotspot' feature when you walk thru their website to purchase this, or add to your line, or replace one of your existing lines. What's up with that?
