While installing a new LCD TV (a Samsung LN40C630), I noticed a couple of USB ports on the side. The user guide said to connect a thumb drive for playback of music, videos and pictures. A penny dropped for me: My Palm Pre can act as a removable drive, too -- just like a thumb drive.
I connected with a USB cable and selected USB Drive mode on the phone. Now I can play back all the media stored on my webOS phone using the TV. My webOS videos and photos look great, even on the 40” screen. As a bonus, the TV charges the phone while connected. Another bonus: Samsung makes it easy to set up slideshows or play back MP3 files with their standard remote.
If your TV has a USB port, you may have a media player and a place to charge your phone you never knew you had. (Since some gadgets implement USB connections in a non-standard way, we can’t guarantee this will work.)
Of course you can also connect your audio output into anything with an Aux input using a line-in cable. (I’m partial to Stitcher in the kitchen using my Internet Radio as an amp and catching up on audio TED lectures on YouTube via a cassette adapter since my car has no Aux socket.)

I wish this worked with my XBox 360 (it doesn't).

Hi Dean
The media remains on the phone. The TV acts as a viewer for the media on your phone.
On the Samsung TV, when you plug a USB drive into the USB socket, the TV detects the drive and then offers a number of options; I select Media Play. The remote also has a Media P. button, for quick access. The TV then asks me to select whether I want to view Movies, Photos or Music. The TV knows to look in the DCIM folder of my phone for photos and videos but I can browse any folder and tell the media player to display one or all of the media.
I sampled the user guides of readily available TVs from various manufacturers. Sharp TVs seem to use the USB port for firmware updates but LG TVs seem to match the experience I have with my Samsung TV. Your TV user guide is the best place to get specific instructions for your model.

I use the USB cable and select the phone's USB drive mode. Now I can play all stored in my phone to use the television media webOS. My webOS video and photos look very good, even in the 40 "screen. As a reward, pay TV connects to the phone. Another benefit is: Samsung, can be easily set up or play slide, standard remote MP3 files.I learn it from here, thank you for your method,I like it.

When I first got my Pixi I was able to play media files on my Kenwood in-dash car radio player using USB mode. But after the first palm update it didn't work anymore. Does anyone know what happened or how to get it back working?
