The first Palm webOS phone -- Palm Pre, running on the Sprint network -- arrived on the market less than a year ago. Since then, the Palm webOS family of phones has grown to include Palm Pixi, Palm Pre Plus, and Palm Pixi Plus.
Today, with the arrival of Palm webOS phones on the AT&T network, this family of "Best of CES" phones is now available on all three of the major US mobile carriers -- Sprint, Verizon Wireless, and now AT&T -- providing innovative phone choices for the vast majority of US customers. Palm phones are also available from carriers in seven other countries (Canada, Mexico, UK, Germany, Ireland, Spain, France) in Europe and North America.
And we¹re just getting started. As noted at the unveiling of the Palm webOS platform at the 2009 CES, this platform was designed to evolve and scale to drive at least the next decade of innovative mobile devices. But as Abraham Lincoln noted, "the best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time." So if you¹ve been waiting for the day you could pick up a Palm webOS phone on AT&T, the future arrived today.

HP doesn't seem that interested in phones. So, here I come EVO. So long Palm.

Palm
there are some very valid questions to the this blog entry but NO ANSWERS from you.
when is an unlocked Pre coming out
or, why the resistance to an unlocked Pre
and why is this phone still basically an internet rumour in most of the world?
Please at least talk to the people who are trying to use your product, you are not in the position of apple where you can beat people away with a stick (as I see it) you are a company with committed and loyal users, some of these people have been committed evangelists of your products probably longer than most (nearly all) of the people that work for Palm
Please show them (including me) that you (if you?) value such support at least with some information about global releases and unlocked 3GSM versions.

Hi one.m.davis,
They're good questions, thanks for asking. Palm works closely with carrier partners like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, O2 and more to ensure that Palm phone owners have a great ownership experience. There are lots of moving parts between service and support, software updates, Palm App Catalog purchases and carrier-specific features (like mobile hotspot service on Verizon).
We're always working to expand our distribution and recently launched the Palm Pixi Plus on Vodafone in Spain with more to follow.
Unlocked phones that work on any GSM network come with tradeoffs including unprepared carrier support staff, no support for local commerce (Palm App Catalog purchases) and other drawbacks. In short, we think doing things properly in each market where we're present is the best route.
We're working hard to add even more markets, so please stay tuned.
Thanks again,
Justin Ried

But you still didn't answer the most-asked question: When will we see an improved Pre on Sprint?

Hi Mark,
We do not comment on unannounced products, rumors or speculation. Thanks for understanding.

When will Palm allow their phones to be sold on the super convenient no-contract carriers? Even T-Mobile would be great! It's not like their losing any money (you pay full price for the phone itself). Sooo what's the problem?
