You might have heard rumors, but it’s official now: Palm webOS is coming to AT&T.
AT&T’s customers -- all 80 million of them -- will soon have the chance to get their hands on Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus for $149.99 and $49.99, respectively (with a two-year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate).
AT&T’s network supports simultaneous voice and data, which means Pre Plus and Pixi Plus users can talk on the phone while surfing the web. Customers with an unlimited data plan will also get AT&T Wi-Fi access at U.S. hotspots (more than 20,000 nationwide). The phones will transparently connect to Wi-Fi when in range of an AT&T hotspot, for fast and seamless access to music, email, video and the web.
Pre Plus and Pixi Plus will be available in AT&T stores and online at www.wireless.att.com in the coming months. Palm will be showing off the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus from AT&T at the CTIA conference this week in Las Vegas. For the full story, see the press release here.

Rebrand the next phone "Palm Pilot". Don't let this once powerful moniker get lost in somewhat forgettable names like Pre and Pixi. Bringing back the Pilot brand will be part of returning the magic to the Palm brand.

Is this really news? The relationship with AT&T was revealed (albeit without a launch date) several months ago. I hope this is a serious commitment to getting the phones out in the stores now by no later than May 1 and launching it *properly* (as in strong advertising, and appropriate training and evangelism campaigns in the stores).

Please start selling the Pre to the whole WORLD

The Pre+ and Pixi+ better be released on AT&T within a months time. It needs to be released a couple of months before the next IPhone. It needs time to mature on AT&T. I am sure that AT&T will have the agreement for the next IPhone and will push that harder than the Pre+ and Pixi+. We do not want Apple to steal Palms thunder. YOU HEAR THAT PALM!!! This needs to be released ASAP!!! We are true supporters of your great product, and we want to see it grow.

And the chances of PALM going bankrupt? Then what? I can't decide whether to go iphone or continue to wait?!?!?
Posted by: HeavyRedBoots | March 23, 2010 at 07:29 AM
Well... It would be great if I could get some here in Portugal/Europe too.
Trying to get to start developing for a smartphone and this seems the best bet as I have web dev background.
Probably will go Android way.
Pitty... it seems a good phone

Hey LOYAL PRE and PALM user. Why have you guys bailed on Sprint with the Pre Plus. I still can't get double the ram and double the memory, but I pay the same amount for version 1. Also when are you guys coming out with a new faster and bigger phone. Basically when is the Pre 2 coming out?

I hope it available in my country.

Please give us a new form factor like the HTC Hero or the iPhone. ....and call it the "Pilot" so you don't have to waste precious dollars rebranding......

Palm's website shows two GSM mnodels for the Pre and Pixi
Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA (850/1900 MHz) for the US and
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) for the rest of the world
I have to wonder if AT&T will take the US only version (should be cheaper) leaving the quad-band version with too small of a market to be viable for mass production.
Too bad that pile of 552 thousand Verizon phones won't work with the other carriers or outside the US. :>(
