Had a chance to explore some of the latest goodies in Palm webOS 1.4? Here are some of the cool new things you can do in the Email app:
- Sort messages: Open the application menu, tap Sort, then choose how you want to organize the list: By Date, By Sender or By Subject. (Do it again to reverse the order.) You can also just start typing to search subject lines in the Email app, and sort the search results using the same method.
- Add email addresses and phone numbers: When you receive a message with an email address or phone number in the body, tap and hold it to see new options, such as Add To Contacts (if the info is not already part of a contact).
- Edit text before forwarding: Now you can edit content in the original email before sending to a wider audience. More info about how to cut, copy, paste here.
- Open attachments: When you receive a message with files attached, the first file to be fully downloaded opens automatically while the other files download in the background.

When will it actually work faster than pouring cold molasses? As it is now, it can take over 5 minutes for it to synch and 2 minutes to just open a dang email.

Attachments - "the first file to be fully downloaded opens automatically" - bad idea! What happens if some malicious coder comes up with a virus attachment for webOS? Email opens it up and blam, webOS device goes bye-bye.

What kind of WebOS device are YOU using? Mine opens, syncs, and sends almost immediately.

James McKinney - I'm using a Palm Pre. Well, I try to. As a long time Palm user, I hate to say this: but the device is becoming unusable for me. I don't want to wait over a minute or two for an email to open. And I don't like constantly getting "too many cards open" notices when the only card I have open is email or no cards at all. I was patient when the device first came out, but it's gotten slower with each OS upgrade. (And I have no hacks or unofficial apps installed on the phone)

I'm still waiting for the ability to send emails to a distribution list. I know there are some apps, but if I want to send a message to my staff (80 people or so) I can't do that all at once from my phone yet. If there is a way, I'd love to hear it. By the way, my Pre on Sprint opens my mail, syncs, and downloads really fast.

what about being able to download a audio file? Why can't i do that yet? Why can't I do that when someone sends me a mms message?

What is the Palm phone device that will be offered via AT&T in 2010? When will it be released?

As Palm have no actual way to contact them (contact us page - OK, what next?), I'll post this here.
I see that Palm have posted another set of disappointing results. According to the BBC, they're 'not selling enough smartphones'.
I would quite like a Palm Pre. I'd happily have chopped in my Blackberry for one.
What stopped me is the deal with 02, for 2 reasons.
1) I'm not taking a 2 year contract at nearly double the cost of my Blackberry, (which I can cancel with 30 days notice), and 2) Have you actually tried getting any attention at an 02 shop recently?
This ridiculous idea of giving exclusivity to one provider can't possibly be good business. Apple got away with it because they limited the supply of Iphones. Palm are getting hammered because the Pre just isn't the same as an Iphone. To shift it in numbers people have to be able to get one, without being scaplped by 02.
It annoyed me at the time - but now to see Palm complaining we're not buying their phones, when they make it as difficult as possible to do so needs commenting on.

Has anyone noticed that since the 1.4 and even now the 1.4.1 webOS updates the wi-fi connection no longer works (unless you're 5 inches away from the router)??? It happened in 1.4 version and they didn't even fix it in the latest release...!! It takes away all the good use of Palm Pre! :s

Email updates in 1.4 are great, but there is one glaring omission..and it's a biggy.
Please consider adding a "Send As" feature for emails. I have my gmail configured with multiple email addresses, but it is impossible to reply from my Pre to the address it was actually sent to.
This is especially important when managing my professional "identities."
This feature could not come soon enough.
