The latest update to Palm webOS is now arriving on your phone via an over-the-air update. The update is now available for customers on the Sprint network in the US and on the O2 UK, O2 DE, O2 Ireland, and Movistar networks in Europe. [February 27: The update was released today for customers using the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus on Verizon Wireless.] The update is expected to be available for Palm webOS phones on other networks soon. Highlights of the latest update include:
- The ability to capture, edit, and share video: Not only can you easily shoot video footage from your Palm webOS phone, but you can also make quick edits and upload your footage to YouTube or Facebook (or send them via email or MMS) with just a couple of taps. See the video capabilities in action in the video below.
- Get more done faster: The Calendar, Phone, Messaging, and Email apps have all been enhanced with new features to simplify common tasks (many based on feedback from our customers). For example, in the Calendar app, you can now dial a number that appears in the subject of an appointment. In the Email app, you can now sort by date, sender, and subject. In the Phone app, the Call log offers more options to easily connect to a contact (such as via SMS). And there are some new shortcuts for zipping from one app to another (for example, moving from a chat view to a phone call with that person). You¹ll also see improved performance in these apps.
- Enhanced notifications: The LED in the gesture area now lights up and pulses if you have a notification (even when the screen is off). You can also customize notification sounds in Messaging, Email (on an account-by-account basis), and Calendar. And there are new notification sounds in the ringtones library to give your more customization options for your alert.
See more details of the Palm webOS 1.4 update in action here. Your phone will automatically update within a few days once Palm webOS 1.4 is available on your carrier. You can also trigger the update using the Updates app. We always welcome your feedback on what you’d like to see in the next Palm webOS update -- share your thoughts here.

Thanks Palm. I am looking forward to the release on my Verizon Pre. A few days delay won't kill me or anyone else out there.

Hi,
even though I have traditionally been critical of the boys in Orange, I have to say that they do mostly everything right recently.
@bigscreenguy: NO! The webOS - as sad as it is to say this - seems to be the only productivity oriented OS in the market now that Microsoft has committed ritual seppuku. No keyboard = fokkol.

P.S. Featured your release here:

so I must say, first the pre came before the plus, makes sense they get it first, however, I am still unsure of the new app launching screens, seems it's a case of it looks faster to launch but really isn't, video was long overdue, whatever editing controls they may have used are fine with me, canada, stop complaining, it'll come, same to you vzn users, you'll get it, just not today, the flash that has been talked about it an app, this just gives WebOS the ability to support that backend app, if you have Preware, it's similer to the package manager app, it doesn't appear in you launcher and cannot be launched but simply works in the background, so chill, it's comin folks

Palm, don't forget Canada is north of the USA. seems like it doesn't exist on your map! How dumb is palm? like seriously.. smarten up! no wonder my friends never recommended this phone! i hate living in denial saying this phone can do everything! well no acually it can't. it lacks many basic features that other phones have! im sick and tired of palm saying "SOON" just stfu and spew out the date! u dont give the date so you can push it back. how lame is your service? like seriously... get real. don't make me leave palm and get a new phone. you're on the vurge of loosing customers. im sure im not the only one. plus i will tell as many people as i know that this phone is just pathetic! it doesn't even have paid apps! smarten up palm!

great update. Very nice features. Only thing I would really love to see in on a future update is onscreen keyboard.please palm..this has to be something bery simple why won't you give us this?.. Also if possible VM. Again great update. Keep'em coming.

Palm is falling out of favor with investors as it struggles to sell its latest smartphones, and Verizon is really screwing things up by not releasing update and Palm agreeing to it.

Not happy that its not on VzW yet.. Come on Palm before I decide to send my Pre Plus back to VzW.. Not a happy customer!!!

ADD A VIRTUAL KEYBOARD! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! If the "droid" can have both a physical and virtual keyboard, why can't we? :(
Posted by: jimmy | February 27, 2010 at 07:35 PM
This is REDICULOUS!!! they screwed up with the hardware of the phone, with the shotty build quality.. at LEAST get it right with the software! why do us canadians have to wait for 1.4!! im tired of telling people i cant capture video... and they're all like, oh dont you have that awesome palm phone?
dam it palm, seriously get it right!! no wonder your stock tanked... the next phone you give us BETTER be twice as good as my pre. not that you havent already lost me to RIM...

all these haters talking about the pre need to sit theyre asses down the pre is the best thing smoking.
Posted by: Bigg | February 27, 2010 at 11:27 PM
...... why can i still not download ringtones........ im sooooooo sick of the annoying preset ones... who has time to sit infront of the computer and make ringtones... why cant i just do it from my phone.... even the crappiest of the crappiest phones you can download ringtones directly onto.. this is rediculous... that would really make life a whole lot easier if you guys could really just appease to the crowd of palm users and let us download ringtones directly onto our phones.

I am currently downloading the update for my Pre. The main thing that I'm looking for is more reponsiveness in the apps, especially the most important one for a phone, the phone app. I hate when I think I ended a call only to find out that the call didn't end. Not to mention just checking my call log. The one thing a phone needs to do right is to be a phone. Everything else should come second.

Love all the new features. Great work!
would be great if i could invite other people to appointments/meetings in my calendar. will this be coming soon?
Posted by: Sander | February 28, 2010 at 04:00 AM
Very pleased with the update, except that I hoped one of the Calendar upgrafes would have included the ability to invite others to scheduled events. This is a business-use necessity and, hopefully, will be included for the next update. Thank you Palm for finally adding video record.

I AM SOOO DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!
As a sprint user I have been using 1.4 for a day now and I must say that it is NOT faster AT ALL. The animations just soothes you as you still WAIT for apps to open and BASIC content to appear. AND let's not even talk about battery drain, I think it actually maybe worse. The video capture and new call log are great but now my Pre finally has the functionality that my Treo had and I'm supposed to be jumping for joy????? I am very disappointed in Palm and if they go under after this I wouldn't even care anymore and I've been riding hard with Palm since the Palm III.
And I dont even want to get into the fact that myTether doesnt seem to work with 1.4.
