Last year, Palm appeared countless times on the Engadget website. Palm Pre made its late-night TV debut thanks to Jimmy Fallon and Engadget editor-in-chief Joshua Topolsky. Palm's CEO Jon Rubinstein appeared as the first guest on The Engadget Show. And lots of Palm news -- updates to Palm webOS (now rocking in the new year at version 1.3.5), the arrival of Palm Pixi, and the launch of Palm webOS phones in seven countries -- have hit the pages of Engadget (along with plenty of rumors we'd just as soon be forgot and never brought to mind).
But this morning, as we're ringing in the first few minutes of 2010, it's Engadget debuting on Palm webOS instead of vice-versa: the new Engadget app happens to be the very first app of the new year. Download it, and you'll get a steady stream of all the news, unboxings, photos, and video from The Engadget Show. (And you can even send tips to Engadget from within the app -- but we trust you'd never use it to send rumors about Palm products....)
Jon Zilber
Yeah, how Ironic Engaadget made me crave a Pre, and now because I am in Germany I cannot even download the app...
Happy New Year
Thanks for selling all of us in Europe half of what everyone else gets. What a great deal...

Jon you need to chill out, Palm is busy trying to roll out the most important things first, I am sure they are not sitting on their thumbs thinking "let's ignore Euro customers" and get around to them when Fantasy Football is over for the year.
Pull up a chair this Thr and hear the cool things they are going to announce at CES.

Keep up the good work, and release WebOS phones on more carriers!

I know I hit the same topic a lot but looking at recent news:
- iPhone has a 3.5" screen for years
- Google released the Nexus 1 WITH A 3.7" screen
- both up to 32 Meg of memory (Nexus 1 via SD card, allowing versatility/swapping
- Apple's releasing the tablet that will probably have wi-fi phone capability and possible phone capability, and a 10" screen.
- Dell is rumored to have a 5-inch "mini-tablet" running Google's Android OS
- Google is rumored to be working with HTC on a Google Tablet, to announce at CES.
Palm, please note the hot sellers in smart phones have all been big screens, and the trend is for bigger. HTC came out of nowhere to become a huge phone seller, and I'm not aware of any recent phones with small screens.
Please announce a new phone at CES with a 3.7" screen, SD card slot, wi-fi, and more in the competitive sub-$200 range.
If 10" screen slates (or 5" screen mini entertainment units with phones) take off, don't be late to the party.
Please be at CES with more to announce than the new Pink Pixi. You have the best OS (with desktop integration) out there. I'll be watching it live at EverythingPre

Gene, sorry but living in some European countries it feels like Palm is ignoring European customers. Jon is lucky to live in a country where Palm has deigned to sell the Pre.
I live in France. I saw the Pre on Wired LAST JANUARY. STILL can't buy it here though.
Palm has already ignored some European customers. I'm one of them. Given the number of iPhones & Blackberrys I see over here, and the number that were sold for Christmas as presents, Palm has clearly lost a lot of potential market share/customers with that policy.

I like my PalmPre....however, 1.3.5 has slowed down loading apps and I have had to reboot everyday now. Also, my battery seems to be draining quickly. I have loaded 1.3.5.1 on to my phone, yet I see no info about latest upgrade. What is going on?

I doubt you'll post this, but hopefully someone will (before rejecting it) and maybe even mention it to someone at Palm with real responsibility and authority (and more than half a brain).
Just read the specs for the Palm Pre Plus (and Palm Pixi Plus) heading out on Verizon shortly.
No external storage, and the Pre simply does not backup to the cloud everything that one puts on a Palm, everything I've been doing for 12 years of loyal Palm use.
So 2010 means I ring out Palm.
Freakin' clueless. What a total disappointment.

I'm still waiting for the Pre to be launched in Asia. I was in Germany last month and almost bought it there but wasn't convinced enough by the sales rep when she said I can use it here in Singapore. Please update us on your Asia launch date. We've really waited too long already.

I am interested in a new Palm phone such as Pixi Plus but wonder if the information, etc. that I have in my Treo 700 will move into (and onto) WebOS for Palm? I don't want to invest unless I can upgrade fairly easily.

Thanks for the insight Mark...
I did listen intently to what was said at CES, and guess what? European buyers have been shafted again. The announcements basically said
"hey all of you loyal users in Europe, who spent a thousand dollars or more on our phone; here is a bunch of great new stuff you still can't do on your Palm Pre"
I would think basic equality for users who paid the same amount for a device as our American counterparts would be an important thing. But not to PALM, maybe they are playing fantasy football instead.
Thanks again Palm !!!
