With so many new Palm Pre owners, webOS developers, and folks eying Palm Pixi, it seemed like a good time for a new roundup of “Answers to FTQs (frequently tweeted questions).” We love hearing from you on Twitter -- whether it’s a question, a feature suggestion, a gripe, a great photo from your Palm Pre you want to share, or the latest sighting of a Palm Pre on your favorite TV show
But sometimes it’s tough to give you a proper response to your tweet in just 140 characters. If you were directed to this blog post in a reply to your tweet, check the acronym below that you received as part of your response.
- GQFPS: Great question -- for Palm support. A quick search on the support pages may take you directly to a solution. If not, post your comments on our support forums -- if there’s an answer to your question or a solution to your issue, this community will do their best to find it.
- GQFWOSD: Great question -- for webOSdev, our online community for app developers. Or tweet your comments and questions to @chuq, @bgalbs, or @dalmaer.
- GAIFAFYLTS: Got an idea for a feature you’d like to see? We’re all ears -- drop us a note in our virtual suggestion box.
- WWOPATAT: Wondering what other people are thinking about that? Join the conversation on the discussion boards on Palm’s Facebook page. (You’ll also find links to many independent Palm community sites on the blog roll on your right.)
- NHFYC: Need help from your carrier? Here are some suggestions from Sprint: Need help with questions about your device or rate plan? Visit www.sprint.com/support for support with questions about your account, technical questions or information about Sprint's rate plans and services.
- NHFYCOTUS? Need help from your carrier outside the US? Here are the best places to check first if you’re in one of the following countries:
- UK: Click here for product and service info, and here for support
- Ireland: General information can be found here
- Spain: Find product info here and support here
- Germany: Palm Pre info can be found here
- Live somewhere else? Click here and see SNDAY below.
- SNDAY: Sorry, no details available yet (on pricing, specific applications, carriers in your country, third-party products, upcoming functionality, etc.). We aim to share as much information as we can, but sometimes we have to keep information confidential, due to regulatory restrictions on public companies, business relationships, or plain ol’ competitive common sense. You can get updates as they become available by following @palm on Twitter, reading this blog, or becoming a fan at www.facebook.com/palm.

Hi
I am long time palm user (starting in 1998 with my first Palm III).
Last year, I even went out and bought a pre-owned Treo 680. Because I wanted to stay with PalmOS.
No looking for the Palm Pre coming to Switzerland, because the Palm Pre is supposed to be targeted towards the busy professionals.
I am NOT interested in Games and a like.
However, PIM is essential to me.
Especially the address book is very important to me. Carrying over 2000 addresses in the AB. Contacts ranging from business, family, friends, club members, etc. Many of them belonging to more than one category.
Further, I make heavy use of the Tasks/ToDo's for planning my day and all my tasks. Also there, I rely heavily on the categories, tags.
=> 1) PLEASE: Implement a.s.a.p.
a) categories, tags for contacts, tasks,...
b) multiple categories, tags per contact
(ev. also for tasks, etc.)
Further I run several websites at a hosting company. There is also the groupware. (Horde) Which has a SyncML inteface.
=> 2) PLEASE: Open the synergy account for other SyncML accounts. So one can configure its own Groupware sync.
Important for all PIM parts: Contacts, calendar, ToDos, Memos.
(=Still in the cloud but less risky as at one large provider, like Google. Which is more attractive to get hacked.)
Thanks for fixing those important issues
Greetings from Switzerland
Rolf

is there a visual voicemail application available for palm pre?
Posted by: jimmy mapugay | October 29, 2009 at 02:31 AM
@Rolf, I have the same frustrations. Why is everyone focusing (manufacturers AND customers) on things like app stores, games, videos, ... and ignores the essential stuff, like categories, syncing, easy backup, usability (Windows Mobile),...
PalmOS 5 did it...
@Palm, didn't we wait long enough now for the Palm Pre in Europe (in general)...

I'm having a problem with the latest update. For some unknown reason, the Palm webOS 1.2.1 got rid of the option to turn off the Secure Lock feature.
This is such a inconvenience, to force the user to have to enter a password every time they want to access the phone. There used to be a feature in the Screen & Lock Preference to turn off Secure Lock. In this Release, it's no longer there. I put in a feature request for Palm to PLEASE PUT IT BACK!!

I appreciate Palm's requirement to maintain in-confidence, various commercially sensitive material.
However, I would appreciate a formal response to the rumours suggested at http://www.precentral.net/rumor-australia-miss-out-all-palm-fun in relation to Palm not releasing the Pre in Australia any time soon.
My Treo 680 is on its last legs and I would like to be put out of my misery. Should I continue waiting, and if so, how long? Or can you simply be honest with a large number of Australian would-be buyers, and say "Adios" with no hard feelings.
My email address is supplied for any off the record comments, which as a longstanding Palm user and evangelist, I would appreciate.

Hi.
Did anybody ask about an unlocked GSM version in Spain? I have a corporate Vodafone mobile which I'd change for an unlocked pre without doubts, but that Telefónica deal doesn't allow me to do so.
Thanks.

Dear Palm
I don't really get it. Why do you want two form factors and different screens? Pre would have been enough if marketed a GSM version with the CDMA launch.
I used Palm for nearly 8-9 years with love. From a SONY to multiples of Treos and a Centro. I loved them all and they just don't seem logicl any longer.
Waiting to switch to Pre with your hype but you never took things to your advantage. After a year of so i heard it I can still get a GSM version here in Asia.
It sucks at both ends, I ain't like it all what Apple does, but it's iPhone strategy would have worked pretty well for Pre too.
Really tired of waiting now, Just ordered a 3GS. it's not the Pre I want but as a long time Mac user I know once you got hooked up to Apple's things. There's no turning back.
I will miss my PIM on Palm OS but I will manage, and even by the time Pre should hit street you are wasting time with Pixi.
So my penny goes to Apple after 9 years!

The Pre doesn't seems to be a well developed product like the PalmOS 5.4. Like other people have pointed out: The PIM is essential, not Games or apps.
Badly: The good working tools like a Palm T|X aren't supported anymore. Just try to sync a T|X in an USB cradle with Vista or 7 x64. After using Palm devices for many years now I'm thinking about to defect to Apple in the near future...

Palm needs to find a way to hide/secure memos & tasks the way you can on the Centro and other older Palm devices. A lock on the entire phone doesn't cut it. I want to be able to secure certain memos(hide/mask). I've seen others make the same complaints on other forums re: the Pre, but Palm has yet to address it. As a side note, i also liked the color and layout of the text messaging on the centro much better than pre/pixi.

I went to be able to copy and paste (highlight text on screen).
I want to be able to scroll from week to week like my centro allowed me to do.
Constantly asked to update my password for my yahoo accounts.
skipping from day to day in my calendar takes too long to load.
finding contacts takes too long.
screen is so touchy i can barely scroll through my "called list" or contacts list without it calling one of the people that is on the screen where i am trying to scroll.
Disappointed.
The only thing i DO like is the way it integrates all my contacts. I just wish i could sync all of it to one location and sort it from there.

Oh yeah - i hate not having arrow keys!
device takes FOREVER to start-up after a shut-down.
Location of the charging port makes it difficult to use while charging.
I DO like the options it gives for choosing which email to send from, and choosing which Google calendars to save info to.
