Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Introducing Palm Pixi, the newest member of the Palm webOS family:

» Say hello to the Palm Pixi from Mobility Mind
Palm has just announced their second webOS phone, the Palm Pixi. Based on the form factor, this smartphone looks to be the replacement for the Palm Centro. The Pixi sports a candybar form factor (no slider) and has a QWERTY keyboard. This new smart... [Read More]

I Love You Palm

John

The woman in my life requires all her phones to be pink... please make a pink back for Pixi so I can convince her how much she needs one.

Karl Fife

I want one but won't sign up with Sprint. Please make a GSM version!! AT&T, T-Mobile, or better yet, a multi-band carrier independent version!

Albert

Don't forget GSM models Palm, please! I would love to get a GSM Palm WebOS smartphone for the holidays...in Canada! :)

Stan

Ok this it truely some good news. I was wanting the Pre but was waiting for the price drop. I was hoping for something around $99 but now this Pixi looks pretty sweet. Might just get this instead. I didnt like the feel of the sharp edge when you slid the Pre open to get at the keyboard.

Background: I am an engineer with a Palm T|X and a Samsung slider crowded into my pocket, and I want to consolidate them.

My thoughts:
(1) Fire the guy in Marketing who is picking the names for your products. Pre is merely odd, but Pixi? Come on - I've been waiting for this thing for months and now I'm not sure I want to buy it because the name is so "girly." Ditto for the "artist series" shells. It's not hard to make something that appeals to both genders, so why aim so hard for only one?

(2) No Wi-Fi? Dude, that's a deal-killer for me. I can live without GPS, but every time I demo a G3 phone with browser, I end up gritting my teeth waiting, waiting, waiting. Hey, that's just fine when I'm away from home and thrilled to have ANY kind of web access, but at home it just stinks. I use my T|X heavily for web stuff, even with its ancient dysfunctional Blazer browser.

(3) Please consider a landscape format keyboard at some point. I love the form factor of the HTC Fuze, but the OS stinks.

From everything I was hearing I thought this was going to be available on At&t. I've been waiting to upgrade my treo 680 for a long time now but everything that has come out since has been for sprint.

macleod

would the pre be a better phone then the pixi?

gadgetsage

Soon they might even make one as good as the 755p...

When do they come out with the male version of these? You know, a nice hefty chunk of technology that fills up my big old man hand, has a LARGE screen and doesn't feel like I'm gonna break the dang thing?

I love Sprint, I signed up for the first time recently under the simply everything plan, and maybe they've created a whole new department full of nice people to deal with newbies like me, yes, I've heard the horror stories, but aside from a voice message telling me I was REQUIRED to call & make a payment immediately, when I was like 10 days late paying my bill or something (THIS close to being a deal-killer) they've been super nice and helpful.

Jonnie

Why on earth would you not put wifi? Every smartphone should have wifi.

RC

I love my PRE, but don't you think the name Pixi is going to turn off your male demographic? Disney is on in my house all the time and I definitely associate the word pixi with fairies and fairy dust.

Is the intent to focus on women? I am sure Palm has thought this through. If you have any insight that would be great.

thanks

arnav

release a damn gsm version...yes sprint plans r cheap and all but there are billions other who gets work/school etc. discount through other carriers which saves me ~$50/mon compared to sprint...and oh i know my comment will never get posted here

Tom Schmidt

Hey, how about breaking some new ground? Get this thing on Virgin Mobile USA!

Hi Palm and greetings from europe! Great news you have finally announced the pixi! Personally I got tired of the long wait over here and recently bought an htc hero which I'm quite pleased with. I hope you don't neglect the GSM world the next time!

Robert

I love my Pre and couldn't be happier with the choice of carrier, Sprint. I was paying over $150 every month to use my iPhone with ATT and the service just was horrible. Thanks to Sprint I get much better service for $99 a month. I just can't wait to download data on Sprint's network using their 4G platform.

Robert

I wish you would come out with a GSM version so that I could purchase a few for my friends and family. I also wouldn't mind an unlocked one so that I could use it when I travel to Europe.

martymankins

And let me guess... this requires a Simply Everything plan. Guess there is just no love for those of us with great plans that don't need to change, but would like to upgrade to a newer phone.

Sean McKay

Great. Another webOS phone that I can't use. For the life of me I cannot figure out why Palm has chosen Sprint exclusivity for all their phones. Why not start out on the largest carrier - Verizon? I would almost bet my house they would have had at least double the sales of the Pre had they started out on Verizon over Sprint. Just MHO, but as much of a Palm fan I am, and as much as I want a Pre, Palm's not getting my (or several other people's) business until these phones are available on other (*cough*Verizon*cough*) carriers.

That being said, way to go Palm on offering a new design. Keep it up!

Just hurry up and add camcorder capabilities to webOS, will ya?

Donovan

This is great, I liked the Pre, but wanted something more like my Treo 700wx in form, now I know what i'm going to upgrade to.

The fact that this phone is also only available on Spint means that I am now going to buy something other than the Palm I have been waiting for. By ignoring Palm users on Verizon and At&T they have effectively told their installed base they don't care about them. My first Palm was a Vx and I have beena bit of an eveangelist for teh Palm experience but its time for me to move on to some other manufacturer. That also means that I will stop recommnding these devices to IT departments that I work with. Sprint does not have the coverage needd by most of my clients. Places as populouse as Western New York still have significant coverage deficiencies. Good Bye Palm.

Jessica

I currently have the Centro and was going to buy the Pre, which my boyfriend has (It has a few inks that still need worked out), but I am totally waiting for the Pixi to come out. I am all for compact and it sounds like the Pixi has all of the Centro functions and then some. Yeah Palm!

amenthes

Hey palm,

Please make sure this will be available in germany, too! I am still waiting for the pre - but not that i've seen the pixi, this might be my new favorite!

So pleeeease make this beauty available in germany.

Martin

Hej Palm, you're welcome to make your tv spots look so much like Mona Lisa, but please remember where that inspiration came from: Europe! So please make GSM versions of your products a little quicker!

tk421

This is such a nice surprise! The successor to the Centro!
I really love the removable back plates. I'd gladly take one with some classical Japanese design.
It's just amazing what a 180 degree turn that you guys have made. With such a thin design, it really looks like Palm is the new leader of innovation for mobiles.
Glad to be a Palm fan.

Thomas

Please bring a GSM version soon. And offer a "Ed Hardy" back cover. My wife will surely buy it then"
