Today, O2 announced details about pricing and availability for Palm Pre in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Germany. The webOS phone will be available on 13 October in Germany and on 16 October in the U.K. and Ireland.
Details on tariffs for the phone and service plans will be available here for the UK, here for Ireland, and here for Germany. As with our network partners in the U.S. and Canada, O2 will be the exclusive carrier for Palm Pre for its launch in these countries.

What about other country in Europe?

When will the Pre be available in Singapore? The wait is too long and Samsung and Motorola are releasing some decent Android phones with qwerty keyboard soon. Palm, please work something out with the telcos here, otherwise you will be losing some loyal fans once the competition heats up.

no italian (and other countries) plans until april 2010? ARE YOU KIDDIN US? are you seriously saying that except o2 no other carriers are getting the pre? what about sim free version? o2 only covers about a 20% of 500.000.000 european users. this is sick. and a big delusion!

Guys -- how about commenting on the Street.com story quoting "unnamed sources" reporting that Verizon is no longer interested? Smells like stock manipulation to me.....

Could we please get a serious answer on when the phone will be released in Australia? At this rate, it will practically obsolete in the US by the time we get it.

Pixi and Pre a "gay" names. It's sounds so feminine. Come on guys, don't you have more catchy, more masculine names to come up with? You might as well paint these pink and put diamond "bling" studs on these phones. I love Palm but I almost don't care to buy either one of these because of their names. My buddies are going to laugh at me if they knew I was considering these phones. How about "Maverick," "Moab," "Muscle," "Action," or "Bandit"?

(Oh) Dear Palm,
I've been hoping that with the Pre I'd be able to be a Palm customer again (last time - 10 years ago).
However with O2's pricing (seemingly based on greed) that just ain't going to happen.
Between the pair of you I reckon you've just lost the chance to quickly establish the Pre as a real alternative to the iPhone - particularly with people like me who want a phone first that also happens to do lost of other clever stuff rather than a music player that can make phone calls.
Why go with O2 in the first place? - as they've demonstrated the last thing they want to is another device that eats into iPhone sales. Far better to have gone with Vodafone or Orange (or even 3 who really like agressive pricing) - then we would see a real fight and possibly some gloss taken off the iPhone fad.

And how about a free, unlocked Palm Pre ? No serious user wants to lock themselves in a contract with a new carrier. All business users are actively locked out! Come on Palm! You have made a phone that people really want to buy but you are making it extremely hard for people to do so, why? Are we, the serious users, supposed to wait an extra year, or more, in order to be able to buy an unlocked phone? That is just stupid, nothing else. It creates despise for your company and finally, when we are able to buy the phone it will old.

PREsumptions to have a Pre soon is slowly fading away ......Your agent in South Africa is pathetic ! You have the hottest device and they know nothing about it ...I know more than they do.....would you like me to sell Pre for you ? ...I sell it every day anyway .....well get it over here please !
I cannot stand watchin idiots buying iPhones and I'm holding my Centro going "palm is better !" Cmon guys lets go ! Lets Go !.....O2 was a big mistake !.....
Vodaphone all the way !

Hope my old Palm m500 holds out for another year 'til the Palm Pre is available in an unlocked GSM version. Strange that Palm has abandoned a large segment of business users who are faithful to Palm OS, don't want to be tied to a carrier, use their phones internationally and would love to try Web OS (anything but win mobile). I join the ranks of those waiting to trade in an old Palm for a smartphone upgrade.

Posted by: Tamara | October 01, 2009 at 07:48 AM
When will the palm pre be avaible in Slovenia? We have a lot of people here that can't wait for palm pre. So I ask you again when will the pre be avaible in Slovenia? I am scathering on the web every day and looking when will the pre come to Slovenia. I love palm pre, so why don't you send it to other countries as well.
Nice day!

Not even sure that O2 will sell the phone out of contract so that means that the majority of Europeans will have to wait, yet again. :(
I delayed launch in the the rest of Europe means that people will buy other phones instead, what a shame.

Well, so much for Germany. But you forgot the other German-speaking countries: Austria and Switzerland. I can hear *their* cries from Berlin ...

I get that you've made some kind of arrangement with O2 where they get exclusivity (meaning you don't sell the phone unlocked). How long is this going to last? Is this a 2 year deal? It would really, really be awful if I decided I wasn't going to wait for the pre and got an android device, and then 3 months later suddenly pre's are available in belgium. On the other hand, if the exclusivity is going to last for years, I'll just get another device and not fret about it. Inquiring minds want to know...
