“Pre” and “business” just got a lot friendlier! Today we released Palm webOS 1.1, which brings several additions to our support for Exchange ActiveSync (EAS), including remote wipe, PIN/password requirements, inactivity timeout, improved certificate handling, and more. You can find more details about how Palm webOS fits into your business environment here.
In addition to these treats for business users, Version 1.1 also includes a few other goodies for everyone -- like support for emoticons in the messaging app, and the ability to set “person reminders” in the contacts app (next time you get a message or phone call from that person, a message pops up showing you a reminder to ask them about their vacation in Maui -- cool, huh?). Oh, and one more thing: Palm webOS 1.1 re-enables Palm media sync. That’s right -- you once again can have seamless access to your music, photos and videos from the current version of iTunes (8.2.1).
For a list of the new features of Palm webOS 1.1, take a look at the release notes at www.palm.com/webos-pre-sprint-en.
By the way, all these updates are delivered automatically to your Pre wirelessly. Over-the-air updates let you automatically get new webOS features and security updates -- all you have to do is tap to accept.

I got some suggestions. I love the phone, but let's see some improvements like:
-predictive text
-video capturing functionality
-better management of battery power
-allow for shortcuts to more than five apps from home screen
-browser to support flash content
-allow us to remove default apps (like nascar)

I agree, the battery get's really warm when in use.

One feature that I think is really needed is the ability to turn off the phone and/or email checking based on a timer schedule.
For the Treo, I used to use a tool called PowerHero, where I could turn off email checking on the overnight hours. This really helped with battery life.

Here's a fun experiment. Try to post to this blog using your Pre.

Works great -- just sign into a TypePad account first.

I do not think this post will be approved, because it speaks an embarrassing truth: the Palm Pre suffers from significant hardware defect that shuts the phone down if the slide is moved in a certain way, frequently when just raised at all. I thought this was only on my phone, but a Sprint salesperson conceded that yesterday (July 27) he had three returns alone for the same problem. Another Sprint saleswoman told me they have had "our share" of problems. Sooner or later this will get out into the blogosphere and find its way to publications like PC and PC World and, sooner than later, mainstream media like the NY Times. Unless Palm gets ahead of this problem, a mea culpa and a prompt replacement/fix with trouble-free units, it will be time to sell Palm shares short.

Mel -- Thanks for getting in touch. It sounds like you're doing the right thing -- getting in touch with the Sprint store where you purchased your phone, which should be able to resolve this problem for you.

Can you please set the message alert back to the way it was, I have missed many messages because it is way too quiet now and impossible to hear. Also if you could add some additional tones for message alerts that would be great. Thanks keep up the good work

Thanks for the upgrade! But will we ever get an upgrade that will allow us to foward text messages? And I want to know if we will or can get an application called beam?
Posted by: Travis | July 28, 2009 at 09:24 PM
Please, Please, Please fix the FOWARD MESSAGING ON THE PALM PRE. I text message a lot and would like to foward messages to my friends and family. If someone leaves me a message and they say foward this to 8-10 people, you can't even do this because there is no feature for this. Everything else I am impress with the Palm Pre. I have to say this is the best phone I have ever had, but we need to also improve on APP catalog too. I wish you guys can get some of the Homebrew apps that everybody is making out their and put some of them on the Palm App store. Some of those APPS are very cool but they are kind of hard to install on the PRE. Also, video camera would be very cool, and a virtual on screen keyboard. But I love the fact that we are counter punching Apple and Mr. Jobs. The PRE is the Iphone killer!!!!!

I love, love, love my Palm Pre,but...
Things I would like to see as well:
1. Definitely voice command with or without my bluetooth
2. add another sender for reply to texts
3. forward calendar items to accept item from others
4. sync subfolders
5. video recording (now I know there is no way to add this, but definitely need it on next piece of hardware. I didn't even think to look for it, but assumed it was there)
6. Should be able to unlock and answer phone by hitting silver button, or something simpler. I know I shouldn't be talking while I am driving, but I am in sales, and trying to hold and swipe to answer is a pain and could lead to accidents.
Other than that, love my Palm Pre!!

I am so in love with the Palm Pre. I've been a faithful user of Palm products since before .the Treo 500 and until the other day had the Treo 755p (because in Palm has been the expert for years in the "mini" computer & I don’t trust Windows) that being said, thank you so much for the Palm webOS 1.1 update and all of it's great enhancements. I'm looking forward to more (I'll give me 2 cents on a few improvements and add-ons from previous Palm versions) but right now I'm wiring because since the iTunes block out with version 8.2.1, even with the update I have YET to be able to get my Palm Pre recognized by iTunes. The iPod component native to iTunes keeps crashing and since the update I installed, deleted and reinstalled "SplashID" and when I launch the program all I get is a blank screen. Lastly, even with the recent update PocketMirror by Chapura keeps crashing and no longer does a seamless sync between Outlook and the Palm Pre. Are there any solutions to these issues?

I love my Pre. It rocks but.....
1.) I need it to record some freaking movies and audio - this is non negotiable.
2.) Did you guys actually call that crap "cut n paste" if it only cuts what I wrote? The point of "cut n paste" is to save me from typing espcially when I want to copy a huge text or photo from the web that i didn't author.
3.) I still can't understand why the email app does not do landscape while other apps does. When an app goes landscape, I think the menu's should do the same too.
4.) Can we get some soft keyboard. I love the hard keyboard but I never signed up to lose the soft one too. especially when its on landscape.
5.) I'm sure voice command would be nice especially now that all phones including the free ones from sprint has them.

I have supported Palm since I got my first Visor; moved on to Clies, Pocket PCs (iPaqs and then Axims); and then moved back to the Treo line (the 650 all the way back to the 700P, 700WV, and Centro, and was shy of going to the Treo Pro until I heard about the Pre). Now I know some those devices I just mentioned aren't Palms, but all the while I kept hoping Palm would rise up and take them on. They invented the platform, and I wanted them to just blow everyone else out of the water. And with the Pre, they did... sort of. But I can't tell you how disappointed I am that there is no wired syncing with Outlook. Sometimes when I am away from a wireless network, I need to sync some of that PIM data. But there is no way to do this without being on a network. And as far as syncing wirelessly, I'm about to purchase Chapura to get that solution. However I am a little shocked that Palm did not include that solution right out of the box. As far as syncing Exchange with Google and then with the Pre, that is an absolute no-go. I have totally negative desire to have the entirety of my PIM stored in cyberspace.
Is there any word from Palm of enabling wired synchronization from the Outlook to the Pre? Or is there a hardware and/or nomenclature design that will prevent this from ever taking place?

Don't worry about us in Australia.
The Treo 680 is a perfectly serviceable phone, with plenty of years left in it.
No, seriously. We're fine.

I have an Acura TL which paired successfully with the phones bluetooth. I'm able to make and receive calls but it doesn't hang up through the car. Has anyone encountered this? Is there a downloadable fix to this bug?

Palm Pre I thought was really going to be a nice pda phone that separated it self from the rest of the pda's from the get go. I was wrong, I didn't buy a 200 dollar phone that's inferior to previous pda's I had for Palm to use customers as test dummies. The Pre should of arrived fully functional, with all the bells and whistles. I've seen youtube videos of pre owners enabling various sorts of applications that most pre owners don't have a clue... In the end teh palm pre is really the palm "stink"..... The Mad Chef, you can't even be on the internet and talk, as my palm treo pro could do... Pre as of now is a joke
