» Palm versus Apple, Pre versus iPhone : round 624 from Mobility Mind
Over the past couple of weeks, we have seen several skirmishes in the war between Palm and Apple. First off, Apple stopped the Palm Pre smartphone from syncing with iTunes. Apple released the iTunes 8.2.1 update, which addressed an issue with... [Read More]

Thank you so much guys. You are working so hard on securing this platform for us. We are hungry for more!

thanks!

Love this please keep the updates coming. Between the beta homebrew apps and the fast updates and add features, I'm more impressed daily with the Pre.

Excellent job. My only major complaint so far is the lack of a reliable way for us to load applications on to our phones outside of the Palm App Store. The store will be wonderful, but I am a little surprised the amount of complexity (i.e. SDK setup) for average users wishing to partake in the many great homebrew applications out there. The e-mail bug was a huge issue and one I'm glad resolved, but I do miss the ease of installing CAB files from my desktop computer when people offered them on Windows Mobile.

Great job, guys. Keep bringing the pain! Eff off, Apple!

Sam

Mwahaha, in your crappy overpriced faces, APPLE!
Palm pwns! Media Sync once again!

To be honest, I never update my iTunes, so this doesn't effect me, but I'm just happy to see that Palm pulled another fast one on Apple.
Great job guys! :) lol

"Oh, and one more thing: Palm webOS 1.1 re-enables Palm media sync [for iTunes 8.2.1]." I love the choice of words "…one more thing…". It's a nice jab at His Steveness. :-)

I love most things about my PRE. I wish you would fix the messaging to where I can forward. It would also be nice to fix the copy and paste feature to include text messages and websites. Other than that, I'm just ready for some applications. I do want others reading this to know that I'm a Palm supporter and I am happy with my purchasing decision to stay with Sprint and switching to the PRE.

Total

And bring on iTunes 8.2.2.

Ed

Its not like the cat-and-mouse game with Apple is going to keep the Pre syncing forever.

dave

As for media sync, how about getting the open source community started with an add-on to Songbird?

Mel

because...palm knows alot of people use itunes. Most of the regular world does, although some of the more techie people choose not to. The aim is to bring people over from apple to palm... and one of the best ways to do this is to make it only half the transition for now...in the future, ya have your own app, but if people can keep the same itunes and just plug in their pre, its alot easier...

also, have you seen the news releases on the gadget review sites already for this update? It gains media attention, and then everyone elses. I'm assuming they realized this would happen at Palm... I have a feeling they are not dumb...

rich

We need better copy paste. Its almost worthless as it is. please, please, please improve that.

Tairy

Why in the world won't you fix the text messaging so we can forward them? Also what about video? I love this phone but there are things that need to be adjusted and fixed and those are (2) of them. My piece of crap Samsung Instinct had those features and that phone was a piece of crap. Come on Palm give us what we want and need. Thanks.

Are there any plans to improve the IMAP capabilities of the email app? I miss the ability to sync subfolders. Honestly, without the ability to sync subfolders, email is useless on a phone for me. I get too much unnecessary stuff in my regular inbox. Everything of any value is in a subfolder. To tell you the truth, I don't even need all of the folders, just let me pick the ones that I need the way ChatterEmail did.

adam

LOL go palm!! great job!! made my whole day!! awesome work you guys rock!

frank

Any time frame on an update that will include support for WPA Enterprise (TTLS/PAP)? Now that would be useful...

2AM

that one more thing was perfect

I'd just love a few simple things that come with phones.
1. ability to change tone of messages and email notifications
2. voice command for making calls is wonderful while driving
3. abitlity to forward text messages that is such a must!
4. better battery life, it really sucks and it gets REALLY HOT!

please can you update for these things???

John

And please hurry up with the GSM version. We're waiting.

Brian

Bought the phone on release day, and loving it. My only real annoyance with this phone so far is the fact that when I use the touchstone I haven't figured out how in the world to make the screen turn off & stay off. It's nice to have the clock on at my desk, when I'm using it...but annoying as anything to have the backlight stay on eternally in the bedroom at 2 AM!

difoote

Palm, Y9u actually ready my last post. Sent me a private e mail telling me you would be fixing EAS within 60 days. You beat your deadline. I can now use everything I ever wanted in a business class smart phone. The phone is now absolutely awesome!!

Thank you for keeping me from "jumping" ! It was worth the very nice shorted wait!

Previous owner of Treo 600, T 650, T 700P, Palm Pro. And Now Pre. Pro is not too bad... Pre rocks!

Alice

I love my new Pre, the only thing though is the system messages sounds --- I think it should have more options, rather than just one sound! I cant tell if I just got a text, an email, a battery low alert, or a notification for an upcoming event in my calendar. Typically I have a different sound for emails and texts, so I'm hoping a future update includes that ability! If there is a way to do it now I'd love to hear about it!

Amjad

im a long time apple fan, and i still am, i dont wish for them to go down hell. but i gotta say, they keep doing business the way they do and they will eventually fail.

brad

great. can I remove the nascar app yet?
