You might have caught the premiere of a new Palm Pre ad on Facebook earlier this month. This week, the new Palm Pre campaign hits the airwaves. The ad -- created by the Modernista! agency -- will air nationally over the next several weeks on everything from the Today show to "The Daily Show" to the Wimbledon finals. (You might also see online elements of the campaign on sites like Hulu, DailyCandy and YouTube.)

That's great, but let's see less money wasted on advertising and more spent on getting out more handsets and with more carriers!!! (Canada and Europe GSM models would be nice) There is more than enough people who want this phone that would generate enough buzz to sustain and elevate sales. Advertise AFTER there is enough stock to go around and you need to sell it.

I saw the commercial last night while watching "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here" on NBC.

I've had the Pre for about a week and a half and I love it...I've had an HTC Mogul from AT&T for the past two years and was going to get the Touch Pro but changed my mind after trying the Pre in the store.
I was expecting a much steeper learning curve and have been pleasantly surprised.
The only things that I don't like are the cramped keyboard - I would rather have a one like the HTC products (this was the only reason that I STILL almost went with the Touch Pro even after trying the Pre) and if there is a zoom on the camera, I haven't been able to find it.

The commercial, like the Pre, is outstanding. You get the impression Palm has covered EVERY detail.

I am more than a bit concerned that Epocrates has no intention of supporting the Palm Pre, to quote:
You replied to Gary's post2 seconds ago
let me quote Epocrates, a major software offering for physicians and medical students who see patients. The come-on from Palm and Sprint was that Epocrates supported the new Palm Pre. Unfortunately, that is not what they write:
QUOTE:
"Thank you for contacting Epocrates.
During the past several months, we have been working closely with Palm and MotionApps to ensure that users who purchase a Palm Pre and the MotionApps Classic Palm OS emulator will be able to use our current Palm OS applications* on their device.
However, the initial release of webOS and the Classic emulator do not fully support all functionalities of Epocrates' products. MotionApps is working on a new version of the Classic emulator to fully support Epocrates. The availability of the new version of the Classic emulator is dependent upon the next webOS release from Palm. Based on our discussions with Palm and MotionApps, we believe that Epocrates will be fully supported within the next one to two months.
We are very excited and look forward to the new releases from Palm and MotionApps so that you can continue to have Epocrates products* at the point of care.
We thank you for your feedback. We have made a note and we will inform you of any further development that we may have on this issue. "
This is not an indication of support of the Palm Pre, it is support of the motionapps program that is a 30 dollar tag on price. The end result is not a product equal to a better than the iPhone, but one 30 dollars more expensive than the treo.

Will the Pre function w/o a data plan?
Posted by: rpahk | June 27, 2009 at 08:17 AM
I love the pre! However, all the adds and hype have been somewhat misleading. Some of the simplest features I feel have been overlooked. Firstly, there is no msn or yahoo messenger. Also, no camcorder. Battery life sucks! No IM emoticons???
Its seems like palm was in such a rush to release this phone that it missed some basic things. Hopefully over the next few months, with the release of some new apps things will begin to improve.
Overall the pre gets a B+!

Andreas, while your point is well taken, in a company there's plenty of room usually to undertake different activities concurrently. So they're probably working to get the stock up at the same time as advertising the phone. BTW, your implication that they can neglect properly advertising their new product couldn't be more off base, IMHO.
Guys at Palm: great phone (I love mine) and a really good advertisement. It's one of those that kinda hits you emotionally without you really knowing why, you know? Well done.

Hi palm,
Please do something about the battery! Also do something about the hardware and the sliding mechanism. My slider seems not in place and wobbles right and left. Other than that good job I'd give a B. Also there are some glitches in the software, I will mention them next time.

Likely picking up my Palm Pre today. I have one primary issue with this commercial and that is that it does not highlight the phone nearly enough. While comparisons with the Iphone probably make your teeth grind, in this case its necessary and on point. In an iphone commercial, the focus is entirely on the phone and what it can do. The Pre commercial shows more of the synchronized guys dancing and the girl's vapid expression than it does the phone and what it can do and I think thats a massive mistake. Neither Sprint nor Palm appear to have massive dollars for advertising so if you're going to do it, seems to me you should make that ad buck work very hard. I waited for months for this phone to be released and like other consumers who did so, I'm hungry for info about the phone's capabilities. The ad delivers almost nothing about the phone. Next time I see it I will count the seconds the phone is actually displayed in the spot. Its not nearly enough. Its a tease commercial and not in a good way. The next ad needs to FOCUS ON THE PHONE. My two cents.

Can you guys get the marketing team to upload the new set of ads to the Palm Pre website. The site is behind a few with the ones I've been seeing across Hulu and NBC; they're very interesting I might add. Would appreciate it very much.

The Pre is okay not great a few issues. You cannot forward text messages ( in my opinion that is a basic option on any device ). The battery life is not good, overheats a bit. Also has no msn messenger/ yahoo. You cannot find a decent case for it that won't break. When talking you cannot end one call with out ending all the other(s) that you might have open. It takes a Lil while to turn on, There is only one sound for any messages you receive, really... A video camera in the phone would have been cool too. [ If anyone could tell me if any of these are going to be improved esp more apps, msn messenger and the ability to forward text messages that would be appreciated ]. Thank You.

give me msn messenger!! please
and video recording ability, if that is even possible now that the phone is made...
but yeah... msn!! the US are the only people who dont use msn messenger... what about the rest of the world?
