After unveiling Palm Pre at CES in January, we wanted to give you the opportunity to get to know a few of the people behind the product. Over the past few months, we’ve introduced you to people who have helped to:
- turn Pre from concept to reality
- complement Pre with breakthrough accessories like the Touchstone inductive charger
- develop the webOS that powers Pre
- ensure that the Pre user interface was intuitive and engaging
- effectively convey the Pre story on palm.com
- convey the Pre message to everyone through break-the-mold advertising
- coordinate every facet of launching Pre.
Today, Palm’s first webOS-powered phone -- Palm Pre -- is available on the Sprint Now Network. We thought this would be a good occasion to give you the chance to “meet” the rest of the team at Palm. From all of us at Palm, we truly appreciate your enthusiasm -- and your patience -- since January. We couldn’t have gotten to today without you!
-- The Palm team
When will be the release date in Hong Kong? The wait is not over >_<....

Started using mine yesterday 6/09. The look and feel are nice. When sliding open to expose keypad if you flip it over you'll notice a mirror on back for self portraits of yourself or with a friend. Nice Touch. Fast internet. Bookmark pages a Plus! Also WiFi capable.
Although there is no mpeg video, the camera takes great looking pics.
Cons: Needs longer battery life, down to 25% bp just searching and trying out.
No voice recorder or NO VOICE Recognition for Bluetooth while driving. It does work with my Motorola H700 for answering and hanging up calls with no problems but as a driver it's distracting having to call a number while driving because of no VR. Yeah, I know, have 2B xtra cautious. Seems with the law now-adays, that would be "High" on the priority list. Still searching for an App, hope they resolve soon.
Also ringer volume seems low but is set on high.
Only had it 2 days, so will make update hopefully by this weekend!

Great for you America! But when it will be available in Europe? New I Phone 3GS will be issued in Czech Republic in July 09. Loosing time means loosing market share. I need a new device and as a Palm user (since 2001) I do NOT want to switch! Please Dave Whalen tell it to us Europeans.

I have owned a Palm OS smartphones ever since the Kyocera 7135 all the way through to the Centro. I love the all-in-one concept. With that said, when will it be possible to sync a playlist with a desktop application like the iPhone? It takes too much time to import music, then remake the playlist on the device. If I take the time to modify a play list(s) on the desktop, I want the same changes sync'd with the device.

Ok I got my Pre yesterday. I have issues with it already. Don't get me wrong it is Awesome!!! But it needs to have a few things tweeked. I use it for business and it not being able to open a TIF file and any MS Word file that has been sent to me is anoying. If they can fix this issue i will be able to keep it. I could go on for hours of other issues but Being able to manipulate and view things that are sent to me. It is after all my Business solution.
Thanks

Thank you! I absolutely love Pre. If battery life is improved, Pre could very well become my primary phone.

I know the World hasn’t been holding its breath awaiting my impressions and I am sure many have voiced the same opinions however just in case here are mine. I must first say I have been a Palm Geek forever. I am a packaging engineer and have been for almost 20 years now and live and work in Southern California.
I remember my Handspring that I thought that was God’s way of keeping order down here. Anyway, I have respectfully owned the 270, 600, 650, 700 and 755 with Palms OS consistently. I sync with Outlook and have always loved this combination.
I love the Pre’, even currently with its limited applications. I am more than pleased with its functionality and the ability to address and keep order in both my business and personal life seamlessly with just the right amount of overlap of each.
My experiences, questions and input so far:
1 My biggest complaint is there is no way to sort or organize my contacts. I have over 1500 contacts in 10 different list on my 755: family, friends, customers, specific companies, ex- girlfriends (incase they ever got the bug to call me again, don’t like surprises at 2am), restaurants, repairs/services, etc……….this is a real issue for me because I don’t always know the name of who or what I am looking for. This is the same for the camera and notes as well.
2 On my 755 I had pictures for a large majority of my contacts that did not transfer over which is a pain but my real concern now is if I do start to take pictures over again will they be stored on my phone? With such limited memory capacity I am not excited about giving up to anything a lot of memory which may affect other programs and or over performance.
3 I would like there to be a way to manually override the flash on the camera and to rotate pictures as well.
4 There should be an optional soft keyboard, I am not really a fan but there are times when it would certainly come in handy and would allow the keyboard to not have to be opened for every operation. This should work both in the portrait and landscape modes for it to truly be functional.
5 I was on a website today that utilized Adobe Shockwave Player so I was not able to use the site and was directed to Adobe’s site to install it and received the error on my phone “Cannot find an application which can open this file”
6 I Love the new keyboard with the @ and , as well as the Sym and Number Lock stand alone keys, superb addition.
7 I Love the touchstone and wish you would make a version for the car. If I had one or a way to use the existing one there it would be a winner for sure.
8 More memory, more memory, more memory………….
9 I would like to have Signature capability for emails
10 Love the matte finish battery cover, I realize its importance but the look as well is great
11 The application area across the bottom should allow for additional applications to be added and scrolled left to right.
12 Battery life is weak but battery does charge fast
All in all I love my Pre’ and I am glad I waited for it and look forward to what happens next.

Hi - I know Palm is concentrating to make a strong comeback so all their efforts are directed towards the US market - but please don't ignore India in your plans - there is a lot of buzz of the Pre around here and the Pre can only make it here fast if you launch an unlocked GSM version..
So please launch the Pre unlocked soon to gain traction in India! The carrier sponsored business model sucks in India - look at the iphone - unsubsidized phones, and expensive plans!

My name is Brian, and I just got my Pre on Saturday by a stroke of sheer luck... They "Found" 10 extra units in the back room when everywhere else was sold out.
I LOVE this phone, but I'm getting a little tired of hearing about how much better the iPhone is by Apple fans who haven't even touched the Pre.
Yes, the iPhone is nice and all that, but come on.. let us enjoy our phones in peace. There's no need to tell us that our phone sucks when we just laid 3-400 bucks down on the counter for it.
I hang out at http://www.PalmPreForum.org a site made for all Palm Pre owners.

I agree with Linda Grist Cunningham: the scene at Sprint stores on June 6 was complete BS! I was the 5th person in line for a Pre, but walked out disgusted after waiting over an hour. The store had 2 customer service prople working, and each was taking 45 minutes to an hour with every customer. So I was looking at the prospect of standing there for almost 2 hrs.
Seriously, how f***ing hard is it to buy a phone?!?! If you were there at 8am for the Pre launch, then you were a Sprint Premier customer who already knew they wanted to buy one. So what needed to be explained or demonstarted? Get the phone, have them activate it, pay for it, and get the f*** out so the next customer can get one.
Giving the first few customers a lavish service experience while pissing off everybody else waiting in line is NOT a good service level expectation.
Now I have to wait until the stores get the Pre in quantity, because now there's a damn waiting list.
Palm: great phone... please get your supply chain issues figured out and make more of them... and if I find out later that you intentionally shorted supply to artificially create some kind of cache, I'm done with you!
Sprint: you suck! you have always sucked! you think that the best 3G network and smartphone selection gives you carte blanche to have the crappiest service on the planet. my advice to you is start appreciating your customers, and stop hiring the functionally retarded to work in your stores.

I'm in Canada with the Rogers network. Please let me know when the Palm Pre is avalible.

India is a huge market that you're missing out on. The iPhone is taking over and Pre fans sit around waiting. Don't lose time. Grab the market now!!

I love the pre but I hate the calendar. I use the color coding all the time. Is there a way to upload from ical and keep the colors?
Posted by: Leah | September 14, 2009 at 01:18 PM
when will the Pre come in pretty colors (like the Centro comes in rose, blue, etc.)?

Same question here, what's the hardware upgrade path that will let me use my software? I know it's been promised but I haven't seen it announced.
