We thought about running a harmless little April Fool's Day prank on the blog today. Maybe leak a hint about a hush-hush rumor that Palm would be merging with that pomegranate juice company (the new company would have the ticker symbol POM-PALM, with a cheerleader as our corporate mascot, natch). Heck, there's already a video (created as a promotional tool for Nova Scotia -- go figure) showing off the first phone the combined companies would produce.
Maybe we'd disclose some bogus guidelines for naming webOS apps (“application names are encouraged to use only the vowels 'e' and 'o'; also acceptable are 'a' and 'u,' and sometimes 'y'”). Or issue a faux “Countdown Survival Guide” for everyone anxiously awaiting the availability of the Pre.
But instead, we thought we'd give you a heads-up (for reals) to check back later today (or follow palm_inc on Twitter) for an update direct from the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco.

You know, the Palm-e-granite, apart from the harmonica, will probably exist someday.

Ha! Your Treo 700? How about my Treo 650's? I keep switching between the two, depending on how many cracks in the cases there are and hoping they both don't die before the Pre is released. Any day now....(maybe on my birthday?)

Folks, your enthusiasm is impressive. We've said all along the Pre will be available in the first half of 2009 and that hasn't changed.

Bear witness Palm.. I was this "" close to canceling my Sprint contract and going to AT&T for the iPhone.
Give us the dirt, NOW!
ok.. how about now...?

@Mark P. First half of 2009 is anytime between Jan and July. How about more specific than that? I PROMISE I won't tell anyone.

GEEZ!! How much longer do we have to wait? I've been following this phone forever and I am anxious. I want this phone and I think you have built the hype high enough already. You can see everybody wants one and you can tell you will make plenty of sales. So tell us already!!!!!

I'm really thinking about moving my 25 man shop to ATT and the Iphone...CMON already!!! How much longer are you going to make us wait!!! Hurry it up Palm! Dont blow this like you did that whole FOLEO idea!!!

perhaps it's not ready for prime-time yet. Maybe it's slow and jerky and they are cleaning up.. who knows.

whats time is this "announcement"?
Posted by: Andy | April 01, 2009 at 05:17 PM
Enough already...I know you're trying to build up excitement and all, but give a date and or price already. I know of at least a few folks that are waiting, but not for much longer if this stays as an open ended "eventually, trust us" time frame.

next for Palm is Palm Infinity.... light-charged mobile phone that won't run out of power, it'll stil have a battery in it and works only when there's no light.... so it's not only solar, even lights from bulbs/lamps can power the phone.... so no worries about running many apps draining out the battery.... of course then the OS must be more powerful than it aready is as people will want to run multiple apps.... if palm already has touchstone, this is the next steps..... how coooooool is that.....

I just became eligible for a Sprint upgrade today and the only chance Sprint has to keep me is to release the Pre soon.
I just don't know how much longer I can wait. The iphone looks pretty good after using a Treo 755p for two years.
Release the pre and quit beating around the bush Palm!

Sonisoe -- very cool. I wish I'd thought of that.

Okay....my current phone is so bad right now, the screen is black and I can not read text messages!! I can't take this much longer, I'm holding out for you, Oh palm pre, please come to me!

This "Pre" fella's the Obama movement of cell.phones today..... The people have spoken.... let Pre-dom ring!!!!

I'm just as anxious as the next person, but hey, if the delay means we get a more stable product (with apps!), then I don't mind waiting a month or so longer.
Kudos to Palm for keeping the Pre under wraps until January - how you did it is beyond me (and I'm rather well connected). Imagine the hate mail that would have ensued had news leaked before then and we had to wait!
The day its announced, hello Pre, goodbye AT&T!!

Posted by: Juan | April 02, 2009 at 05:27 PM
iphone definitely had an awsome advertising hype. i hope the pre comes out before iphone updates their apps. for the phone itself.
Posted by: Juan | April 02, 2009 at 05:33 PM
Damn you guys want the PRE, but i want it on Verizon.
Hopefully i will have my unicorn horse ranch up and running before it hits Verizon in 2010.

It will be released on PALM SUNDAY. lol
Posted by: Mrk | April 03, 2009 at 07:45 AM
any one knows if Palm Pre would have some sort of push notification (email, IM).... i mean if i keep the IM app connected all day it'd use up the battery, so may be even if the app is running, ideally it should "not" be connected until a message comes in... (i dont know how thats possible though).... i mean at the end of the day Pre is PDA where email or messaging features are priority ...
Posted by: sonisoe | April 07, 2009 at 05:45 PM
Sonisoe -- webOS provides EAS support. Users can get up-to-date email, contacts, calendars and tasks via Microsoft Direct Push Technology. Does that answer your question?

does anyone know if the Pre has international capabilities.. Can it jump on sattelite network..
