We get a number of questions via Twitter (follow palm_inc) that are a little tough to respond to in 140 characters. This blog post is a collection of answers to some of the most frequently tweeted questions. If you were sent here in response to your question on Twitter, look for the acronym below that you received as part of your response.
FHo2009: The Palm Pre will be available on the Sprint network sometime in the first half of 2009. Pre will be available outside the US, but no release date has yet been announced.
SNDAY: Sorry, no details available yet (on pricing, specific applications, third-party products, functionality details, etc.). You can get updates as they become available by following palm_inc on Twitter, reading this blog, or becoming a fan at www.facebook.com/palm.
PIJTB: Pre is just the beginning! The webOS operating system was designed to drive the next decade of innovative mobile products. Over the coming years, you can expect to see a wide range of devices with different features for all kinds of customers on various carriers.
YTSOLNWJFWRC: Yes, that segment on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon was really cool! We were thrilled to work with Jimmy and Engadget editor-in-chief Josh Topolsky to give the late-night TV audience a special sneak peek at Pre. As someone commented to me, “the Palm Pre is one of the few things that could turn men’s heads away from two beautiful movie stars three feet away.”
GQFTPDN: Great question -- for the Palm Developer Network. Please check out http://developer.palm.com. They will understand your question or your idea for a cool new application a whole lot better than I will….
GQFPS: Great question -- for Palm support. Please check out http://www.palm.com/us/support. If there’s an answer to your question or a solution to your issue, they’re the folks who can help you out!
EWTBKA: Enough with the Bluetooth keyboards already! We get the point.
ATRJTKOYTSNRNRNR: Awwwwww, that’s really just too kind of you to say. No, really. No, really. No. Really.

It would've been nice if you included the actual questions for the benefit of the rest of us. Because what you've got here is just a little too Douglas Adams...
Posted by: Count Buggula | March 11, 2009 at 06:17 PM
Count -- Any comparison with Douglas Adams automatically rates a "ATRJTKOYTSNRNRNR." As for the rest of the list, here are examples of the kinds of questions that will get you an acronym tweeted back at you:
- When exactly will the Palm Pre be available? And when will you have it on other carriers or in other countries? (FHo2009)
- Will the Pre come in a version with more storage, in different colors, or with a way to attach phonecharms? (PIJTB)
- How will the Pre work with my particular calendar, e-mail, social network, or my data from PalmOS apps? (SNDAY)
- Wasn't that segment on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon really cool? (YTSOLNWJFWRC)
- I have cool idea for an app for the Pre -- I know you only have 140 characters to respond, but can you explain the development environment in extensive detail? (GQFTPDN)
- My current Palm phone is acting up -- I can't explain exactly how in 140 characters, but what should I do? (GQFPS)
- Will there be Bluetooth keyboards (or other unannounced accessories) for the Pre? (EWTBKA)

I just have a simple question about the new palm pre. I see that it has a 3megapixel digital camera. All I need to know is Does it also offer video capture? That was one of the reasons why i never purchased the iphone.

What about the sync issue? Have you not been getting questions about that?? I've been a "Palm Guy" for years now and all my data (calendar, contacts, notes via memo, etc.) are in my Palm, not Facebook and the like. What solution are you guys working on for users like me? Will there be something like an online version of the Palm desktop for me to use that will auto sync with the phone????? >>

Raffi -- SNDAY. There will be lots of ways to accommodate the information you currently have stored in lots of places -- but we're not yet ready to discuss the specifics.

Okay... sitting at the edge of my seat (literally) and waiting…. thx

I was hoping that sometime before the end of the first quarter we loyal sprint and palm folk would actually get some concrete information concerning the release of the pre. Instead all we have gotten is vague promises of when (avoided completely) and how (required plans like AT&T) you will make this product available. It is sounding more and more like it will not be delivered as suggested and that it will not deliver as promised.
Posted by: Chase | March 12, 2009 at 10:38 PM
Chase -- We'll be sharing more concrete info as soon as possible, and there's been no change in what's been previously announced regarding the timing (first half of 2009) or features of the Pre.

Will -- we'll be ready to share more details closer to availability.

I love my old Palm, been using it for 8 years, should I wait on the Pre or get the 755p (sprint) to guarantee, i keep my apps?
Posted by: Amy | March 14, 2009 at 08:31 PM
Will the Palm Pre support AVRCP as well as A2DP?
Posted by: Galtish | March 14, 2009 at 10:45 PM
Amy -- I'd try and put that decision off a few months if you can.
Posted by: Alex H. at Edelman for Palm | March 16, 2009 at 02:27 PM
Galtish -- this information will be available right around availability of the phone, or, SNDAY.

No expansion slot?!? How am I supposed to listen to my audible.com boooks, multiple podcasts, and music ripped from my CDs?
Posted by: Baron | March 16, 2009 at 04:48 PM
Alex -- Are you saying that this SUNDAY (March 22) there will be an announcement about the date the Pre will be available?
Posted by: Raffi M | March 16, 2009 at 04:49 PM
Raffi -- No. SNDAY is an acronym described in the blog post above. Sorry No Details Available Yet. :)

I was waiting on new Palm Pre, but I'm going to buy iPhone instead. Why wait months for something that's not even tested while iPhone works great and new update with many new functions is coming soon?
Posted by: Jack | March 17, 2009 at 10:06 AM
Will the the pre have text blasting & will it have categories for the contacts?
Posted by: karl | March 17, 2009 at 12:30 PM
Baron -- check out Pre product manager, Matt Crowley, discussing this very subject over on Facebook.

Jack - up to you, my friend, but check out Gizmodo's take on the various smartphone operating systems. They explain the current landscape very well.

I'm a Realtor using my Palm Treo to open lock boxes. Will the Pre have the same capability?
Posted by: George Brophy | March 19, 2009 at 11:08 AM
George -- more details on specific applications coming shortly.

The Pre looks great, and the Pro too. I'm extremely disappointed to see that it's being only offered through Sprint. A great phone should be carried by a great provider. I'm ready to upgrade, and hoping you release these phones on Verizon. I like being able to manage, but segregate my personal and work email, contacts, and calendar.
