I like the flush touchscreen? on this new phone. I am concerned about those keys though. It looks alot like my centro. The smile style keyboard is more reminiscent of my trusty 650. Not as curvy as my 680, though. The keyboard looks cramped. If you are going to want me to use the intuitive interface, I have got to want to use the keyboard. Sadly, the keypad seems to be an afterthought, not the intent. I do like the ringer switch, though. Could you please put an upraised nub on the ringer switch so it is easier to switch, like my trusty 650. How is syncing done, bluetooth? I like the charger. Stylus? BTW, going CDMA really limits you from going international and selling these phones worldwide

I was a ten year Verizon customer that switched over to At&T for the Tilt phone. Ten minutes ago I saw your information on the "Pre". All I can say is if it were available today I would change service to Sprint for the new Palm Pre! Outstanding device, please let me know when and where I can purchase one. The Experia 1 is outdated in fact all other devices are now "OLD". Its like taking an old Palm and applying "Stem Cell Research To It".

Tommy

I am very happy that Palm is still making their own operating systems. I was never going to buy one of your phones based on windows mobile. I still own a Treo 700p, my wife owns the 700w and hates it. I've seen the difference and your phone/pda applications are still better than anything out there.

There were rumors that you guys were bought by microsoft and would use only windows mobile from now on which had me in the hunt for a new brand. The palm OS has always done things smarter and was the reason why I started buying Treo's.

Looking to finally upgrade with the Pre. Thanks for staying with your roots.

Live from NYC, didn't get to CES, but I do love the look of the new pre,,very stylish and that is totally necessary today, congrats, on the vanity, that combined with the messaging apps, beauti and the beast !!
Awesome, Have to get this at the TM Think Mobile show NYC 3/18 & 19 all the best !!

My first question is in response to a comment Stephane Maes made to TreoCentral... signed apps? Just to make it clear, does that mean all apps installed on the device must be signed, and must go through the app store, or can unsigned apps go through different routes (albeit unsupported?)

What about MicroSD? Expansion is good, and so is being able to take your data physically out of the device.

This is more a Sprint question, but I'll go ahead and ask it here... will Everything plans be required, or can existing non-Everything plans be used?

bhtooefr --You can keep up with developer info at http://developer.palm.com/. And for Sprint info, you can start here: www.sprint.com/pre.

@Ronald: I understand your concern, but the Pre is wider than the Centro, like the Treo, so the keys are wider. and the slope of the curve on them is not as sharp as on my Centro, so I imagine they are easier to hit more accurately. hopefully the feel is as good as the look. can't wait to try one!

As someone who has had some kind of Palm-powered device in his pocket every single day for past 12+ years, today's announcement made me ridiculously happy for you, for me, and for the entire Palm community...it's great to have something to look forward to again. Well done!

Now, please get the Pre through the FCC and into my local Sprint store as quickly as possible...my 700p is in dire need of an upgrade.

Daniel

The Pre and web OS looks amazing. Would really really like to get me one. Anticipating info on then the devices is coming to Denmark. Hopefully unlocked.

I have been using Palm devices for over 10 years now, and am very excited by the Pre and the Touchstone charger. There's one thing I'd like to see as an additional accessory, though; a charger for a spare battery that works with both the Touchstone and with a power cable (for use when traveling).

Tim Ardan

Very impressive phone. I'm VERY excited to see Palm making their own OS again. With the OS, the device itself, and the Stone charger, this is very much the "Wow" device that I've been so anxiously awaiting.

LS

Why do none of my comments get posted EVER??

john

will the Pre be able to edit MS word/excel documents and run powerpoint presentations?

Stefan

The Pre looks awesome!

Please Please Please put in SD or Micro SD expansion card support. 8 Gigs is just not enough for a phone that has the Pre's capabilities.

I was also sad to see a flat keyboard like the Treo Pro. I was so hoping for the curved keyboard of my 700P.

The Touchstone Charger looks great, but for traveling, I would much prefer a simple cable-to-USB charger.

Unfortunately I won't be able to get a Pre if they won't offer it on Verizon by this Summer.

JJAZ

Looks like a great phone. I am locked into a Verizon contract. How did they miss the boat on this one and what will they do about it?

V

You will disappoint a LOT of GSM users by exclusively offering the Pre to Sprint. My husband and I have been Palm fanatics for over a decade - only purchasing Palm phones. We've Palm PDAs, and every Palm Treo phone, starting with the 300. Please offer the Pre to GSM users to alleviate the stress of switching carriers AND to prevent LOYAL Palm users from switching to Windows Mobile.

Jerry

Wow the moment I saw the Pre I should have bought stock in Palm. Could have doubled my money. I have a couple of questions. The CEO mentioned that they wanted to limit people from having to carry so many devices that they looked like Batman. Well I am afraid to give up my treo 680. Why does the Pre not shoot video? This seems like a step back to me. From a dad that can't carry a camcorder everywhere I love shooting video with my treo. Is there expandable memory like the treo? If not, why not? Lastly, does it have the infer red? I am Realtor and Palm basically has the market cornered with Realtors because the treos can be used as our e-keys to get into houses. Thank you in advance for any answers. I am DROOLING over the pre!

Cathy

I, too, am drooling over the Pre and am giddy in anticipation. But it will have to wait until I can get it with Verizon because that's the only reliable provider in my area!!! If the phone service is not reliable, it doesn't matter how much I need the other devices - the phone is the most important function!

ZZ

I have been using PalmOS devices for years. I have been waiting for a Palm Smartphone with a large screen like the TX, and the Pre looks great----except for a few things: Why no backwards compatibility, or an emulator like Style Tap? (I'd hate to lose all my favorite apps and their data. Some, like Adarian Money and BookBag Plus, I've been using for many years). Why no expansion card slot, which would also allow for backup/restore security?
Looking for the Pre on Verizon, SOON!

John -- we haven't announced all the details around the Palm Pre and webOS, but stay tuned. It's going to be a busy first half of the year. As always, thanks for reading.

JJaz -- thanks for your nice comments about the Palm Pre. Our good friends at Verizon Wireless haven't necessarily missed the boat just yet. Palm works with a variety of U.S. and International boats so stay tuned and thanks for the comment.

Cathy -- your enthusiasm is appreciated and we feel your pain re: network coverage. Palm works closely with all the major carriers -- Verizon Wireless included. Remain optimistic and thanks for reading.

Hi. I've been nursing my Treo 700p along, waiting patiently for the new OS and now it's here. The hardware looks great and the new OS is exciting, so I'd be ready to buy now, BUT... no support for my legacy Palm apps?? That's the main thing I've been waiting for. Without support for my old apps, the new phone/OS is just another cool smartphone, in direct competition with Blackberry, iPhone, et al. Are you really going to leave the Palm failthful behind with no support for all of our older apps? Please say it isn't so...

Rick Boatright

I hope to heck you provide enough info that a Garnet OS emulator like Styletap can be run. I still think apple is shooting themselves in the foot by preventing languages and emulators from running on the Iphone/Itouch. Please pretty please open up enough that someone can do that.

Matthew J

I would really, really like to implore the good people of Palm to build in some type of backwards compatibility with the Palm OS or to allow for something like StyleTap, so that some of those gem applications around which entire communities were built and upon which some of our lives depend (such as the Chinese-English dictionary software PlecoDict) may still be available to us. Thanks, on behalf of many, for considering it.
