Matt Miller, ZDNet: Congratulations Palm! You needed to hit a homerun today to stay relevant in the mobile space and I would have to say you did just that.

I have to confess I was somewhat of a cynic and skeptic due to the LONG TIME during which Palm was pretty dead and stale, but they've really hit a homerun with this one.
Congratulations Palm! As soon as it's out, I'm getting one!

I've been developing for the Palm OS for 3 years. Given Palm's marketshare I was about to give up and move on to the iPhone. I was aware of the announcement and just thought, here we go again another language and api to learn. Imagine my surprise when I found PRE was comprised of Html and javascript, now that's meat and potatoes. So you have rekindled by interest. I await with interest the new SDK, mojo - my fingers are crossed. Will the devices be backward compatible with old palm apps?

Have had a Palm PDA then Smartphone from the beginning. Would love to get the Palm Pre but don't subscribe to Sprint and not planning to change carriers. WISH Palm Pre was unbundled (BOO)...would so get one!

Am I too old school asking about a stylus and graffiti option?
Posted by: ODDIE | January 10, 2009 at 10:58 PM
Why on earth in the 'you tube' age, would this device not have camcorder capability (older models have this and camera zoom)? Also, I hear you cannot attach pics. to text messages-again, another disappointment.

A stylus and Graffiti didn’t make it into this product, Oddie, but the 3.1-inch touch screen and full QWERTY keyboard should prove to be worthy substitutes, we believe. Appreciate the comment, as always.

Hi Mary -- Including specific features in certain products is always a trade off. In the grand scheme of things, Palm thinks this specific mix of features have resulted in a product that most Palm fans will find useful and fun. As always, thank for reading.
