Can’t get enough of Facebook? Here’s how to use it on your Palm smartphone.
Anyone who uses Facebook knows how addictive it is. It was recently ranked by M:Metrics as one of the sites people visit most often on their mobile devices. Palm Centro and Treo smartphone users can use Facebook for Palm to check in on their Facebook friends, and a lot more, when they’re away from their desktops.
You can use Facebook for Palm to:
• Send and receive messages
• View and post status updates
• View and post photos from your smartphone
• See your friends’ profiles and photos
• Read and write Wall posts
• View News Feed
• Upload videos taken from your Palm smartphone
• Use a mobile “Contacts” tab that aggregates friends phone numbers – view your list of friends and dial or text them directly
Facebook for Palm is compatible with Palm Centro smartphones. For more details visit http://www.palm.com/facebook. Also, you can download directly to your Palm phone by visiting http://mobile.palm.com/facebook.

What no 700p support? or do you just consider them to be a EOL and not worth supporting?

Why isn't this available for Treo 700p?
Posted by: David Barr | June 12, 2008 at 09:09 AM
So why isn't it available for the 650 or Palm OS 5.4.8? I'd upgrade to a Centro, but it is not available on T-Mobile or unlocked in the US yet....

It's too bad that you can't get auto updates, but i like that you have the choice of uploading pictures and video from your phone. Are you planning to release new versions anytime soon?

And waht about TX? or any other model of palm handheld? Why you can't just leave the app open to any palm device??

Been trying it out and it works pretty well. It's easy to switch from each of the icons on the bottom and I like being able to dial friends. It did take me a little bit to figure out that it defaults to showing only the friends that have provided contact information and not the full list. I would think it would be better to see the full list of friends and then get to a list that has contact info.

But will the upload of photos work from Sprint? right now I can't do mobile uploads from my Sprint TREO phone because sprint uses a link to pass photos on to other locations? Will the facebook application be the work around? I've been debating leaving sprint over this issue alone.
and let me get this straight, it is not compatible with my treo 700? Why not?

Also curious about lack of support for 700p. Please explain.

I just installed it on my Treo 700P which has been upgraded to 755 firmware and it works fine.
Posted by: Raphael | June 12, 2008 at 03:23 PM
It works just fine on 700p with 1.10_ 700p firmware. I just told the download webpage that I had a 755p.

Nice job, Palm! Great to see web apps appearing for Garnet.

I just installed it on my unmodded Sprint 700p with no problems.

I don't recall upgrading my 700p's firmware to 755, but the app seems to work fine on my 700p so far.

This is a great application... it runs on my unlocked Treo 680!
I was able to update my status and upload photos, which previously I was not able to do with the standard Facebook Mobile version.
The only feature I would like that is not there - poking someone.

Works great. A small glitch is that when an system alert happens, an attention icon isn't displayed on the left hand corner.
I also had a few friends where I am not able to see their photos, although the photos are available on their profile. Is it a bug on the client or the facebook itself?

AGREED! Another depressed 700p user.

Seems to work fine on my 700p without any "firmware updates"

I
You can access it – you just have to choose from the dropdown at the top left and then you can see the whole list. We just prioritized the ones with phone numbers so its easy to call the ones who have that information uploaded.
Thanks,

Hey,
To everyone wondering why Facebook doesn't work on 700p and 650, looks like it works fine: http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=165829. Also seems like a couple people have posted in the comments here that it's working. I bet that nothing is different, they just didn't certify it and so they can't officially say that it works. Just my thoughts =). My 700p is working just fine and the app is rather nice.

Great news on the 700p. Can't wait to download it!

The fact that Facebook will now be accessible on Palm smartphones is just another example of how enterprise 2.0 or web 2.0 is really taking over. Our world is becoming more and more connected via the internet and communication between people, no matter how far apart they may be, is becoming increasingly easier.
