Your Palm Centro - how to get more out of it

As the Palm Centro smartphone's popularity continues to increase, we're seeing sites like TreoCentral host user-education series on topics such as managing personal contacts and customizing Preference settings. The accessibility of this information is valuable to everyone, whether they're newcomers to Palm smartphones or have been using them for years.

For example, a smartphone newbie may want to learn how to assign pictures to their Contacts so that a photo will pop up with incoming calls (covered in part 3), while veteran users may want to better understand Dial Up Networking (covered in part 7). Chances are, there's something out there for everyone.

Below are links to previous topics TreoCentral has discussed. Feel free to share your own tips and links to other useful articles - we'll be sure to do more of the same.

Thank you for taking the time to create this thread.

Yes, as there are over 1 million Centros in the hands of smartphone users ... another feature a "smartphone newbie may want to learn how to" do with their Centro is receive uncorrupted attachments in Gmail e-mail while using the Palm product -- Chatteremail.

Unfortunately, Palm does not seem to be continuing support for their Chatteremail product? There are going to be a lot of new and disappointed palm/centro users who are using Gmail and will need to avoid Chatter in light of the uncertainty of continued support for attachments. For example, it is interesting that on the chatteremail product page (http://www.palm.com/us/software/chatteremail/ ) there is an image of Office 2007, but does chatteremail support the .docx file format/attachments?

Perhaps additional information regarding Palms intent for support of Chatter could be provided.

Thank you.

Palm Z22 user. I checked out Centro and decided not to buy. Disappointing due to tiny little keys. My suggestion is to simply add a slide out keyboard at bottom of Z22 that has large number pad for phone calling. As far as having full alpha keyboard use, I would have that selectable with button or stylus and bring it up on the screen. Also, you could use graffiti to write a text and then send. Being a user since 2000 I am accustomed to stylus use and bringing up the screen based keyboard. Instead of trying to copy Blackberry why not take advantage of what you already have and build from that? I don't text much. But I would like to have a palm that takes good photos (2.0 or better) and makes good phone calls. I use calendar, memo, to do, and contacts (and I sync all of these with outlook at work)

Are there any plans of releasing Centro in its black variant in Singapore? I am strongly considering to get one but am put off by its white color.

...."Your Palm Centro - how to get more out of it"....step 1) don't use Vista x64. step 2) don't buy a centro or any other Palm pda until they start supporting the 2 year old Vista x64.

I like the idea of Dial Up Networking, but it's an additional cost from carriers right? If you get good speed out of it like with home broadband, then seems like it would be worth it.

I bought my wife the Centro and I'm slowly falling in love with it. I would like to move my company away from the Blackberry devices and over to Centro, but I am unable to find a solution that will allow them to sync directly with our Exchange Server versus Syncing with a local machine between the mobile device and the server. Seems a bit 'clunky' to me.

Any suggestions?

I have been a loyal Palm User and customer since I bought my first Palm Vx, and currently using a Tungsten T2. I desperately want to buy a Palm Centro, but I work for General Motors and we are not allowed to have cameras at work. What will it take to get a non camera version of the Centro for AT&T (GSM) or when are you/they planning to offer one? I do not want to go out and purchase a Blackberry, but at this point that seems to be my only other option. I am up for an phone upgrade with AT&T in June. I have talked to a few people here at work that really wanted Centros but have purchased Blackberrys, and are not as satisfied as my Centro owning friends. I waited for the Black Centro to be release to AT&T only to find that I could not get a non camera version. It seems like there is a large market out here in industry that could really benifit from a non camera version, how about it?
