Sprint Treo 755p Software Update
Sprint Treo 755p smartphone customers - there is a software update that is available for installation to your device. The software update is a tune-up that improves audio, stability, software quality and device usability.
For information and to install to your device, visit the Palm product support page.

Any chance of getting a little more detail on what exactly what the update adds/fixes/improves? After the 700P update issues I'm still on the fence about updating my 755P.
Tnx,
J

This is great news. When will the Treo 700p owners see an update? We still have many of the same problems as the 755p users (e.g. annoying "DTMF tones" even when the speaker is switched OFF, BlueTooth incompatibilities, Spontaneous RESETS, etc.)
We are still waiting for a stable, reliable phone (which is what we thought we had purchased when we selected the Treo 700p over the competition.)

Palm really couldn't put a little more info on what was actually update? Just the same generic statement "The software update is a tune-up that improves audio, stability, software quality and device usability."

For my Sprint Treo 755p with ROM 1.04, I'm delaying installation of the ROM 1.07 update. Palm's description ("improves audio, stability, software quality and device usability") is so criptic it doesn't let me assess whether it may break applications including Softick Audio Gateway 1.18, Pocket Tunes 1.0.6, and PDANet 4.11.
1) Has Palm tested these applications with ROM 1.07?
2) Does 1.07 break these applications?
3) If so, what fixes does Palm recommend?
4) Can you post more detail on changes ROM 1.07 makes worded so a user can assess whether the update is likely to disrupt installed applications?
Thanks.

Please post a detailed Change Log for this release. I (and many other users) will not install this without one.

fyi, I just finished doing this, using the hotsync method.
I figured, what the heck... and after 43 mins, success!
Anyways, here's the summary:
-used NVBackup to backup everything onto my minisd card.
-encountered some weird thing, while in the beginning, my treo says don't disconnect, but the desktop upgrade software tells me to disconnect and retry. I gambled, and disconnected, retried and it resumed.
-this required about 3 to 4 reboots, and at those times, I wondered if things were getting hosed, but they were not.
-don't disconnect the hotsync cable throughout the process, until the bar tells you that it's complete.
-after I was done, I verified that my unit was now on 1.07.
-did restore using NVBackup and all my data is there.
-things look good, but it's only been 5 mins since the update. I will post another comment later if any problems.
that's just my experience - I'm not endorsing this for all you right now or anything. you have every reason to doubt.

Sounds like alot of us were previous 700p owners and we mostly got burned after that ROM update. Why would we ever want to chance breaking a working phone and applications we know work with the current firmware.
Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

So, yet again, Palm has ignored the Treo 700p (which was obviously released before the 755p) and its problems caused by the previous MR. Particularly annoying is the DTMF tone which sounds on a system alert even when the hardware ringer switch is turned off. Many people, including me, paid quite a bit of money for their 700p handhelds only to end up with a device that is quite less than high quality. Palm - PLEASE fix the Treo 700p problems soon!!

I am disappointed that the 755P doesn't support A2DP. I previously had a 700WX which supported A2DP and bought a Motorola S9 stereo Bluetooth headset. I hated the Windows Mobile operating system so I changed to a 755P with Palm OS. Now I discover that the Palm OS doesn't support A2DP so my headset is useless. I find it irritating that Palm doesn't standardize its features and that there is nowhere in the advertising for devices that tells that stereo bluetooth won't work with this phone. I understand that it is an operating system issue in Palm OS, but your programmers should find a way to solve it. Please get the Palm OS programmers working on this for all of us loyal Palm OS users.

This update went smoothly and while my Bluetooth still isn't 100%, the update did improve web browsing speed & application load. Much better experience than the 700p update that bricked my phone and made me upgrade to the 755p.

Rob,
Since it is basically the same platform as the 700p, minus an antenna plus a microSD card, a number of people on Treocentral have loaded the update onto their 700p. Thus far, they are all claiming success and have seen significant reduction in the lag seen when switching between applications.
Since it is working so well on the 700p, it seems logical that an official update for the 700p could not be far behind. Especially when taking into context Palm's quarterly statement concerning customer disatisfaction. Since that time we have noticed that there have been updates for multiple Treos. Combined with Palm's blog, it is really giving the impression that Palm is making a sincere effort to restore customer confidence. So is an equivalent update for the 700p going to be released in the near future? It would be the single most important thing you could do to solidify the revitalization of Palm's customer support given that there was no more visible discontent than with that of the 700p owners.
Thank you for your attention in this matter. I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Bob C.

Did I read this right??? For Mac users, "this update requires a blank miniSD expansion card and a card reader."
Like we are supposed to have a spare SD card just for a ROM update? The alternative is to reformat the SD card that contains my music, then rebuild all the PlayLists in pTunes --quite a process.
I may skip 1.07 and live with 1.04 for a while longer.
Palm, you can do better than that. How about an OTA (Over The Air) update????

Did the update as a Mac user (had my extra 1gb miniSD card to use for the upgrade). It went very smooth and even for not using NVBackup, I was able to get all of my settings put back and have my phone up and running in less than 2 hours - from start to finish.
The phone does seem more stable and a bit speedier.

The speed of the device is much better but I have found that people that I call have a harder time hearing me since I installed this update. My four old daughter is even telling me that I need to make the phone lauder when I talk to her.

The Treo 755p update created troubles for me. Maybe I didn't understand how to back up everything on the Mini-card. But I lost everything not on my laptop. My connections to my work email through Good was lost. Settings gone. More or less had to start over and it took days. The other thing that is gone is the ability to use Opera-mini web browsing. Which is much better than Palm's. In January Palm and IBM ended a Java script license agreement. That is needed for Opera it seems. I wonder if that's why the update came out. I'd like to find a work around to get Opera-mini back working. I regret doing the update at this point.

this is an update to my previous post after a week of this "fix".
I noticed one difference. In my sms app, the arrows have changed.
other than that, nothing! My palm still crashed its usual 2 to 3 times this week, and the voice volume on the phone is still not as loud as it should be, blazer is still slow, you still get the same amount of 'hang' at times in switching applications.
Palm, can't you just tell us the details of what this fixed? I can't tell.

Since the update, the battery drains over night where it previously would last up to 3 days. I also experience multiple re-sets every couple of days when previously I had none.

Thanks, Palm, for reinforcing my desires to jump ship. I ended up with a 755p after the 700p debacle (that had to pay for). Like an IDIOT, I gave this one a shot knowing full well that there was a slim and none chance of it working. So stupid me for trusting a company that has hosed me in the past.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Half my applications don't work know and result in a reset. DON"T DO THIS UPDATE!!

I have been having a problem with On Demand on my 755p. Any time I try to start OD my phone reboots. Also, I had an On Demand auto update scheduled for 9:05 pm every night. So, you guessed it, every night the darn thing reboots. On one occasion I was doing my checkbook and it deleted my entire register program. (ultrasoft money). I was able to re-install the program but it is a pain. Can anyone give me specifics on how to fix the problem? Two hours on the phone with Sprint and Palm didn't help at all.
Thanks

Battery draining overnight. Before the upgrade I could go 3 days before charging; now my 755p won’t last more then 12 hours on standby only. I shut off IR and Bluetooth to try and save power. What happened Palm? Either send me a pack of battery’s or let me go back to the older version

Wanted to follow up as I know there have been discussions regarding whether Palm is planning to provide a new software update on the Sprint Treo 755p. We don’t have plans at this time to provide another software update for the Sprint Treo 700p. Also, the Sprint Treo 755p MR has not been tested by Palm on the Treo 700p and therefore we do not recommend it.

I installed the 755p upgrade with no problems. HOWEVER,I am sorry I did. The lag time between selecting an item on the screen and when the 755p executes is a noticeable 2-4 seconds. Has anyone else reported this problem?

Rob K,
Even though I do not like your answer, I appreciate you replying. I think Palm should real carefully reconsider what their policy will be regarding how long to support a product.
In the 700p's case, we waited over one year to get any support update. Then just a few months later we find out that it was the first and last support will we ever receive. So in reality our support began and ended at the 13th month mark of the 700p's life. Yet, you are still selling it on your website for as much as $669 on Alltel and $619 for Verizon. If you are not going to support it then you should not be selling it, or at least should have a disclaimer that the phone is no longer supported.
Because of this, the Centro will keep cutting your overall margins as high end model users switch to it. Because if Palm is going to have such a short life term span for support, then why would anyone buy a high end $600+ Treo? It makes more sense to buy a cheapie/free/disposable one that you would not have to eat a major investment on should you just toss it.
You should really think long and hard about it.
Regards,
Bob-C

Palm,
WHERE IS THE UPDATE FOR THE 700p !?!?!?!?
Come on!!!

1.07 fixed some stability issues for me, but the phone still hangs momentarily at random intervals although it does seem to be tied to the acquisition or loss of signal. Although, it no longer connects to my factory Bluetooth car kit on the first call attempt after getting into the car each time. I have to hang up and dial again and then it is fine until I get out of the car. (If anyone at Palm cares, it is an 04 BMW M3.)
At this point, the form factor is secondary to function. Palm needs to fix a few things and the Palm platform will be a contender again. Here is my wishlist:
1-Rock solid OS (Garnet will probably never achieve this, but I really don't want to wait for Palm OS II to mature.)
2-Bluetooth 2.1+EDR & Wi-Fi (Its 2008, any decent smartphone should have these 2 things by now.)
3-Standards compliant web browser w/ flash and Java support (Talk to Mozilla, they seem to be interested in building mobile versions of Firefox these days)
4-More on-board flash (Flash is so cheap these days, there is almost no excuse for this. I don't mind using cards for media, but what about larger more complex apps? I don't want to nor should I have to run those from an SD card.)
5-Ability to utilize builtin GPS for navigation and location on Google maps.
6-EVDO Rev A
I know I'm not the only one looking for these features. Now the question is, is anyone listening at Palm that cares enough to make it happen before some other smartphone gets there?
