Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Clarification on Palm Treo Voice Dialing For Verizon Treo 755p:

Voice dialing... what a yawner. If you want to get me excited, make a smart phone I can put in my pocket while using it with a bluetooth folding keyboard and a bluetooth ultralight head-mounted-display (HMD). The first company to make a set of devices like that can have a bucketful of my money.

qrius

ok, thank you for that clarification.

but the big question is why? I'm a sprint 755p user, and I have a bluetooth headset, except it's almost useless, since I can't make voice initiated calls...

Why the difference between Verizon and Sprint? Can we still get the free one as Sprint users?

Thank you.

Stuart Guthrie

Sounds great!!! Will 3G capabilities be coming to the Palm OS Treos soon?

Voice Dial works badly on non english names in contacts. It is nearly impossible to dial accented names and instead of learning my phone to understand me, I have to learn how to speak to my phone. That is bad.

What about 700p Verizon owners? Is there an opportunity to get that software free as well? The only real difference between 700p & 755p is form factor not software.

Doc

How about the ability to initiate the call from the headset, without having to call up Voice Dial on the Palm first, and speak into the phone. I'd like to tap the button on my headset, and never have to take the phone out of my pocket, the way I have with two phones before this.

This comment is directed to Rob K. the product manager for the 755p Treo. The one thing you did not address was whether or not you can initiate a call from a Bluetooth headset. It is my understanding that with the Sprint version you cannot. Has Verizon solved this problem? This is the one thing I need to get resolved before I get the Verizon 755p. Please reply directly to my e-mail address.

Thank you. Ron

Have to say, I agree with Doc's comment regarding the wireless headset without having to find Voice Dial. Why can't I tap my wireless bluetooth headset and ask to dial out? My last two phones had this feature. I just purchased my 1st palm and find myself searching for any software applications to give this feature. Then my phone stays in my pocket, or in my carseat on the road without looking for the phone and keypad.
Any suggestions if, when or where this is availible?

Stan Carson

I am in the same boat. I just traded in my old phone and my Palm V for the 755p that should replace them both. Now I find that I can't do a hands free voice recognition by contact name through my bluetooth headset like I can on my old cheap phone. This is important to me, and if I can't find a solution I will unfortunately be taking the phone back within my 30 days.

Palm Treo: The most expensive phone you can buy that does NOT have Voice Dialing built in.

David Buchanan

My last phone (much less expensive than the 755p) allowed me to access voice dial by just pressing a button on the side of the phone and speaking a name. Now I have to push the 755p's applications button, then scroll down and over until I get to the voice dial application, click on it and then finally get to say the name. It's time consuming and, at times, dangerous if one wants to make a call while driving (still legal in my area.) Is there any way to access the system is a quick and efficent manner? I hadn't tried my bluetooth but in reading the comments posted earlier, that doesn't seem to be a possible route either. Palm, is any one listening??? Better yet, responding????

C.S. Thraen

Yes, I too want to know why my Treo 755p does not have Bluetooth voice dialing? What value is the voice initiated dialing if I have to manipulate the phone each time?

What other smart phones have the vid bluetooth feature?

I have read comments above mine and am amazed that I'm not the only one ready to return my Palm Treo 755P. For the cost, It's hard to believe we can't voice dial in a hands free mode. Palm dropped the ball big time on this one. On this coming Tuesday, this puppy is going back!

I would love to buy a Treo 755P, I had a Blackberry and hated it. I currently have a cheap old Moto Razor and the one feature that keeps it in my pocket is the Bluetooth voice dialing that keeps me safe on the road where I seem to make most of my calls. How can a feature on most every "Give Away" phone not be standard on one of the best smart phones around. How can Palm be so stupid.

Gary

Agree with above comments re: lack of bluetooth initiated dialing. Asked Palm and they sent me to an outfit that had bluetooth stereo equipment. This is a glaring omission on such an otherwise fine phone.

I was planning to buy a new Treo 755p to replace my dead 650. I am amazed to discover that I can not initiate voice dialing from the headset on a Treo 755p. I have loved my palm devices but I will have to move on because this feature is now a necessity.

Palm had better get with updating their phones to include hands free voice dialing or they will loose market share. Nowadays when people need ot it more that ever to safely make calls while driving.

Come on,PALM..Listen to your customer's needs!!!

Regarding the Bluetooth voice dialing limitation mentioned several times above, I spent a fair amount of time talking to various Palm customer service folks today, and finally got ahold of somebody willing to get information about this from a Level 3 technical support person.

The bottom line is that, because of a limitation in the Palm operating system itself, it's impossible to transfer voice commands via Bluetooth to an application on the Palm. So this problem will not ever be fixed on a Palm OS device.

Crazy, I know -- a $500 phone would somehow lack the ability to do that, when even cheap phones with Bluetooth capability have it. Very sad.

And an even crazier post note: as of this writing, the new Palm Pre doesn't support it, either! Hopefully they will address that issue, but prospective new Palm users, you have been warned... ;)
