We previously released a beta version of the Palm Desktop by Access (version 6.2) that is compatible with Windows Vista. Since releasing the beta version, we have been working with users and adding functionality to provide a more complete solution, which is now available. This application includes the following features and enhancements:
Integrated Desktop: Provides a single desktop and conduit compatibility across all Palm OS 3.5.x through 5.4.x devices.
Enterprise Friendly HotSync Enhancements: HotSync Manager 7.0 is a standalone application, and no longer requires Palm Desktop to be installed on the computer. All use management functionality has been moved into Hot Sync Migration Tools: installer checks for the latest settings and reports any known incompatibilities with third-party software.
Multilingual Support: Localized in Brazilian Portuguese, English, French, Italian, German and Spanish.
Install Tool: The Install Tool, which replaces the "Palm Quick Install" tool, allows you to sync .prc and .pdb files (Palm OS applications and databases) to your device.
Outlook 2007 Synchronization: Allows you to use your USB sync cable to synchronize with Outlook 2007's Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes. This version includes all previously released software updates such as the Outlook 2007 Update.
Supported Devices: Palm Desktop by Access 6.2 was designed to support the following devices on the Windows XP, Media Center Edition, and Vista platforms:
- Palm Centro
- Treo 650, 680, 700p, 755p
- Palm TX, Z22
- Tungsten E2
Who should update: Customers using Palm Desktop 4.2 on Windows 2000 or Windows XP do not need to migrate to version 6.2. Customers using Palm Desktop 6.2 Beta should migrate to the full version of Palm Desktop 6.2. Macintosh customers should take no action.
You can find additional information about the New Desktop here and on the Palm support site.

I just picked up a T|X to replace/upgrade from my m505. I've never been a regular user of the Palm desktop thought I thought from early on it actually was a decent as Outlook for the core functions.
In reading about the Palm OS development I was amazed to see only one company response to the 64 bit compatibility issue and it essentially said that 64 bit is not going to happen making orphans of even the newest Palm OS powered devices. While I understand Palm is stretched thin a decision to not move to 64 bit is as short sighted as can be given that the 64 bit machines are increasing in market share and not being able to run on these machines guarentees loss of market share and for new buyers that are on 32 bit who do research will also be deterred as at some time 64 bit will be on their desk.
For a case study that is similar look at the decision by WP Corp back in the DOS days to not program for Windows. By the time the company rethought the decision and got the new product out the door it went from the best selling wordprocessing program virtually unchallenged by any competition to an also run that not only could it not gain market share back from MS Word but since has been sold several times and now is only used by a few die hards. Palm has a better OS for handheld devices but if it does not become aggressive in the market will continue to become the WordPerfect of the handheld market.
I do not see the sale to HP doing much to turn the fortunes of the company related to the Palm OS.

I have been extremely disappointed with the Palm Desktop by Access. It periodically trashes by address book. Fortunately I have been able to recover it from a backup. Secondly, why does it insist on saving all data on exit even if you don't make any changes??!! This takes a long time if you have more than a dozen names.

I don't know if you have a financial incntitve to improve things. However, I love my Palm TX. One of the things that made things easier was the abilty to color code categories of appointments. Can we get that back?
Whoever hear of an upgrade that does less?

I have a Tungsten E2.
I bought a mini laptop without a disk drive. I downloaded the desktop on line. Still, I can't get the handheld to communicate with the desktop. I hotsync fine on my other laptop computer. How do I solve this?
Thanks,
Jim

I have been a Palm user for eight years now but just today gave up my 755 model wanting to purchase the up grade but would not because Palm dropped the "keyword find" feature. This was huge to me. I have numerous keywords stored in my contact fields and now they are useless. Also the birthday alert on phone feature is gone. I purchased another phone i really didn't want. I hope I can come back to Palm.

Palm Desktop Access Software:
1. How to make font size larger?
2. On individual record screen, how to make "home" tab come before "work" tab?

Can someone tell me how to uninstall Palm Desktop by Access? I am running against the wall. I cannot remove it by Control Panel > Programs in Windows 7. I get the following message both when trying to remove it and install itwhen I try to reinstall it:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "Pal Desktop by Access.msi" in the box below.
C:\Users\Satish\AppData\Local\Temp\_isB7BA\
I have checked the suggested Temp folder above and there is no "_isBABA" folder or a file.
I would remove this desktop and go back to my previous 4.x version.
Thanks.
