Availability of Palm Desktop by ACCESS 6.2 for Windows Vista
We previously released a beta version of the Palm Desktop by Access (version 6.2) that is compatible with Windows Vista. Since releasing the beta version, we have been working with users and adding functionality to provide a more complete solution, which is now available. This application includes the following features and enhancements:
Integrated Desktop: Provides a single desktop and conduit compatibility across all Palm OS 3.5.x through 5.4.x devices.
Enterprise Friendly HotSync Enhancements: HotSync Manager 7.0 is a standalone application, and no longer requires Palm Desktop to be installed on the computer. All use management functionality has been moved into Hot Sync Migration Tools: installer checks for the latest settings and reports any known incompatibilities with third-party software.
Multilingual Support: Localized in Brazilian Portuguese, English, French, Italian, German and Spanish.
Install Tool: The Install Tool, which replaces the "Palm Quick Install" tool, allows you to sync .prc and .pdb files (Palm OS applications and databases) to your device.
Outlook 2007 Synchronization: Allows you to use your USB sync cable to synchronize with Outlook 2007's Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes. This version includes all previously released software updates such as the Outlook 2007 Update.
Supported Devices: Palm Desktop by Access 6.2 was designed to support the following devices on the Windows XP, Media Center Edition, and Vista platforms:
- Palm Centro
- Treo 650, 680, 700p, 755p
- Palm TX, Z22
- Tungsten E2
Who should update: Customers using Palm Desktop 4.2 on Windows 2000 or Windows XP do not need to migrate to version 6.2. Customers using Palm Desktop 6.2 Beta should migrate to the full version of Palm Desktop 6.2. Macintosh customers should take no action.
You can find additional information about the New Desktop here and on the Palm support site.

Why don't you include the color coding for calendar with this? Don't ruin the good thing, please.

Palm,
I’m a proud owner of a Treo 700. I would like to be informed as to when you will be releasing a new Treo. The Palm operating system is great! I’m just looking for a thinner, lighter phone with out the protruding antenna, such as the iphone or Blackberry.
Thank You,
Justin

Any chance of another update in the near future to add support for Vista 64-bit?

Good job!
However, you're about a year late.

What's the ETA for Vista 64-bit support?

"Macintosh customers should take no action."
When will Macintosh users get to take action? Any updates for Leopard? Adding new handheld support for the latest models would be nice.

Is there a conduit to allow Outlook Inbox emails to be sync'd with VersaMail, like there was with XP Desktop ? This is one of the best features, that I use most frequently.

Version 6.2.2 "Palm Desktop by ACCESS" is so drastically different than former versions of Palm Desktop, including the beta, that I am shocked. The product has de-evloved. I was hoping the device would start to take on features of the desktop. Instead the classic palm interface appears like a blurry monotone blue. I can't sort contacts by first name. Much more. Very disappointed. Even as a long time Palm user (10 years from Palm III) the iPhone is starting to look very appealing. Hope you are planning to fix it and that current release was a necessary evil.

And yet, STILL no support for Vista 64 bit. Even Apple has support for this now. :(

why did you get rid of birthdays? one of the best calendar features.... b/c of that, I'm staying away.

A year late ... and what is this? I CAN'T sync my Tungsten with it ... Come on!.
"Macintosh customers should take no action."...
Oh no, they don't, they have iPhones by now.

"Palm stock drops..." could it be Palm missed the functionality required for your target market? Palm desktop software still isn't compatible with ANY operating system if it is on a tablet PC. Techy/productivity types that have tablet PCs would be just the people to want a smartphone/pda. Did I miss something...? Any word on when Palm will work with tablet?

Here is an excerpt from my own blog today:
Here is a rule, a law, a commandment: Updated versions of software, any software, should never possess fewer capabilities than the older versions. To do so is a version of intellectual and programming laziness that is unforgivable. Period.
I try to keep my software up-to-date. Consequently, I installed Palm Desktop 6.2.2 by Access on one of my computers today. Tomorrow, I will uninstall it. Color-coding for calendar categories is a basic feature. Gone. What idiot thought that would be okay? Birthdays from Contacts appearing automatically in the Calendar? Gone. And I'm not alone in lamenting this.

I'm very dissapointed with this release - it's a step backwords! WHERE ARE MY COLORED CATAGORIES???? Please tell me you plan to restore the features of the previous release...this is aweful!

Outlook 2007 contacts still crashes when trying to sync on a Vista OS platform. Not impressed.

Ugh, just got a new computer and it is 64 bit! how can I use my Palm 700p (verizon) to get on the internet?!

I'm a Treo 680 owner and also miss the color coding. I was also hoping for more options for sorting and organizing contacts. Perhaps these and other improvements are currently in development for Palm Desktop 7?

After reading these comments, I can see I am not the only one disappointed with this release. We have been waiting for this update for several years, and now I find I will have to go back to the preverious release. It would be nice to get an e-mail response to these many observatins and if anything will be done to address them. Thanks.

Sooo, more useful in a corporate environment (runs better under non-admin), but less features (my senior VPs need color coded appointments!!!). Come on Palm. This is why we don't recommend Palms anymore.

Bought a Dell Precision M90 with 64 bit because I use animations in my lectures when I teach at a medical school. For added interactivity in the classroom, I also purchased an IBM tablet PC. In reading the blogs, I have realized that I cannot use my trusty TX, with dozens of medical programs on it, AT ALL! Been a Palm user for a long time. Apparently not much longer... and I do NOT want to be forced into the handheld windows. Please update the drivers.

The Regression Release. Nice! You might consider using one of the remaining features to remind your staff to update their resumes - you guys are toast.

Arrghhh ! Colors ? Where are they ? Are you crazy ? I can't believe it ! But what do you think about ? I come back to the older version immediately. Hope there will be no problem.
