We have temporarily taken down the Verizon Wireless Treo 700p and 700w/wx updaters as a result of reports from customers who have experienced data network connectivity issues after installing the software updaters on their device.
The issue is caused by a device setting that affects connectivity to the Verizon Wireless network under certain situations and only occurs on devices that have installed the updaters. Users receive an error message and typically can reconnect to the data network after a short period of time. This data connectivity issue does not affect the device or personal data in any other way.
We are currently working on delivering a solution and will repost the updaters as soon as they are available. If you would like to be notified by email when the updaters are available, please submit your email address: Treo 700p - Treo 700w/wx.
Treo 700p and 700w/wx users on Verizon Wireless experiencing the data connectivity issue will see the below error messages more frequently:
- "Error 3000 - Data network is not available"
- "Page Cannot Be Displayed"
- "Answering Modem is Disconnected"
Also, the Sprint Treo 700p desktop updater is no longer available due to additional reports of an installation issue that causes the device to continuously reset when installing the software update. The SD/MMC expansion card updater will continue to be available. You won't need to reinstall the software update if you have already done so successfully.
If you have experienced an issue with installing any of the above software updates, please contact us: Verizon Wireless users 866-770-7256; Sprint users 866-750-7256.
Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Is this important to Palm? If so, you must be keeping track of what is going on. You should find some way to tell us about the status. The idea that we should just sit around and wait until you finally think the problem is solved is offensive. At least let us understand what you are doing, what you plans are, what your schedule is.

I simply cannot believe that fixing the issues that the 700p has can take longer than developing a new treo. Simply put. Your dodging us and basically ripping us off knowingly unsupporting a $600 phone which many of us (myself included) purchased without a term agreement. So we are very much out $600. There is no excuse for not having these problems fixed and never an excuse for posting that there is no update needed for Bell Mobility when we are experiencing the same issues as sprint and verizon customers are experiencing.
I have purchased my 3rd and last treo. Blackberry here I come.

Help... my smart phone is now a dumb phone. Can't get email, can't get internet, can't run connected applications.
Aggghh.

This past week I got a 755p (was using a 650) and I can confirm that the broadband network error mentioned in this thread also affects the 755p. I'm a Sprint user and I'm starting to consider swapping back to my 650 until this is fixed; using broadband is really painful when 3-4 of every 5 connect attempts generates the error.
I've also experienced the DTMF tone thing, although that's a nit. The broadband issue is the one they need to fix; hope it's soon.

It's been over a month and still no fix for the 700p? Palm must not take it's customers needs and financial investment very seriously. Perhaps their developers should stop making new products and fix the ones they've already delivered!

To get information on the update, why do we have to supply an email address?
This is a TREO, we are TREO owners. Send us a SMS message - actually have Verizon IM everyone just like they IM us for our bills

Perhaps Palm might consider a novel business concept - getting the phone fully functional before selling it, or releasing new models. Otherwise provide rebates for the advertised functionality that does not function.

Don't see my post from yesterday so I'll try again.
Was hoping maybe Palm could at least issue a fix for those of us that have been without the use of our data services for nearly six weeks. Does it really take that long for you to identify the problem? You must not know your software that well.
The 700p is my 5th palm device (starting w/ the original Pilot), but likely my last.

Waiting for the 700p fix I feel like one of those airline passengers stuck on a plane while it sits on the tarmac for 8 hours. Trapped!.
At least the airlines would communicate and give an estimate of when things would be fixed. Palm- Please don't leave us in the dark!

I am fed up with my 700p and Palm. I finally got someone at Verizon to sympathize with me. My Blackberry 8830 has been shipped. Thanks, Verizon.

The Treo 700p rocks!
Admitedly, experience told me to wait to see what happened with the update and so I did not apply it. Certainly I think Palm could handle the situation with better communication to their users.
However...
Since there is such an overwhelmingly negative tone on this blog, I wanted to make an effort to state some positives in an attempt to achieve some order of balance.
I have been a Palm user since the original Pilot. The Treo is an amazing device! I use mine for everything from GPS navigation to watching video from my Tivo! I know of no other device with this level of flexibility and breadth of functionality.
With what other device can you download a complete dictionary and thesaurus (for free), read the news (for free), read your favorite books, play games, listen to tunes, take really decent pictures and/or ok video. Oh and did I mention it's a phone too?
The Treo 700p rocks!
(No... I don't work for Palm)

What an expensive piece of junk. And now I'm locked into a Verizon plan for a year, with a phone that freezes for twenty minutes a day.
Bad Palm. No cookie.
No future business, either. I've been your customer for a long time. I'm done with you.

I received my new BlackBerry 8830 on Saturday. After three days of use I can honestly say that the 700p is a rock!

For all of you people on this thread who keep begging for a fix: WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!
The Palm 700 platform is BROKEN. Period. On a very fundamental level. No amoutn of fixes or patches is ever going to fix it. Palm has had A YEAR to do it and thet CAN'T.
I've been a loyal Palm user since the original PalmPilot. And being the loyal Palm user I was, I gave Palm the benefit of a couple hundred doubts ever since I got my first VZW Palm 600 three years ago.
I stuck with it--upgrading from platform to platform, praying each time that they would get better instead of worse, each time being bitterly disappointed. I used a VZW 700p for a year before I finally got so fed up with Palm I chucked it three months ago in lieu of a VZW BlackBerry 8830. And y'know what? I've never looked back.
The BlackBerry 8830 is EVERYTHING the Treos aren't: light, thin, fast, stable, and reliable. Abandonding the Treos in lieu of a BlackBerry felt very much like leaving a horrible, abusive relationship and eloping with your one true soulmate. A little melodramatic? Perhaps. But it is so very LIBERATING having a phone you can RELY on not to crash to the point where you have to pull the battery every day--sometimes TWICE a day--to get it working again! And that's with only three pieces of third-party software installed, two of which come from Palm partners!
Open your eyes already, people. Drop your Treos like the bricks they are and switch to a device that works. The BlackBerry just WORKS--and leaves Palm, sadly, in the dust.

Its been a month and no news on the Treo 700 udpates. I am not able to connect data in one go half the time on my VZ Treo 700p (The crappy : Error 3000). Really fed up, wonder what it will take to wake these guys up, its just not done !

Hey Palm-
Why can't I submit my email address anymore so I can get an update on this MR release? Is there a fix coming out soon? ... or have you given up on your 700p customers?
Posted by: Chris | September 18, 2007 at 05:41 AM
What is taking so long? Are we even getting an updated-MR at all? This goes beyond what I usually can stand. I'll demand Palm for a full refund on this piece of crapware called 700p...
Posted by: waldo15 | September 18, 2007 at 10:54 AM
So, did anyone else get the email that the new "fix" is posted.... and has not been able to find it?
This has certainly been a hassle -- even worse in a 1X data zone. It'd be nice if they brought the little "you've got new mail" envelope back, too.
Posted by: Daniel | September 19, 2007 at 11:22 AM
OH BOY! I get an email about an update being available now and that I should download it...
BUT
The link on the website isn't active so even if I wanted to re-download, I couldn't.
I think someone forgot a step somewhere...

Could be getting close. I got the following email today. Too bad is was sent in error and the software is not ready. I called Palm and they said it will be available "soon". Can it get any worse for these guys?

Just got an email note that a fixed (network connectivity) 1.10 update is available. First, I followed the link and it is not available for Verizon (my carrier) and second, why call the 2nd update 1.10 as well? This is so confusing but doesn't surprise me in light of my horrible MSR install experience.

I signed up for notification of the Verizon 700p update, which you sent me today without an actual update being available. How will the next notification, should you even bother, be written: "No really, we mean it this time?"
It's been two months since your software update broke my "smart"phone. You're an international, publicly-traded corporation. Please start conducting yourself like one before it's too late.
Grassroots support from loyal users and developers got you where you are. I've enthusiastically recommended your products to friends and coworkers for years, but I can no longer defend what's clearly indefensible. In the simplest of terms, you've really disappointed me.

Has anyone else received the message that the Update is posted --- but hasn't been able to find it?
While I admit that this is a really annoying problem, especially in 1X data areas, not being able to access the internet, GoogleMaps, Chatter, Call Waiting, reloading 5 times to get connected, and on, are nothing compared to not having the little "you've got mail" envelope icon. I really hope they bring that back!
Posted by: Daniel | September 19, 2007 at 10:52 PM
So will I receive an email when the 700P update is really ready, or only false emails when the wx is ready? Why can't you simply post on the blog that a mistake was made in the emails to the 700p owners and that the 700P update will be out soon (or whenever). Why just have people complain and make fun of Palm on discussion boards when you can simple apopolgize for the error and move on. Simple business sense is all it takes.
