Treo 700 Series Software Updates
We have temporarily taken down the Verizon Wireless Treo 700p and 700w/wx updaters as a result of reports from customers who have experienced data network connectivity issues after installing the software updaters on their device.
The issue is caused by a device setting that affects connectivity to the Verizon Wireless network under certain situations and only occurs on devices that have installed the updaters. Users receive an error message and typically can reconnect to the data network after a short period of time. This data connectivity issue does not affect the device or personal data in any other way.
We are currently working on delivering a solution and will repost the updaters as soon as they are available. If you would like to be notified by email when the updaters are available, please submit your email address: Treo 700p - Treo 700w/wx.
Treo 700p and 700w/wx users on Verizon Wireless experiencing the data connectivity issue will see the below error messages more frequently:
- "Error 3000 - Data network is not available"
- "Page Cannot Be Displayed"
- "Answering Modem is Disconnected"
Also, the Sprint Treo 700p desktop updater is no longer available due to additional reports of an installation issue that causes the device to continuously reset when installing the software update. The SD/MMC expansion card updater will continue to be available. You won't need to reinstall the software update if you have already done so successfully.
If you have experienced an issue with installing any of the above software updates, please contact us: Verizon Wireless users 866-770-7256; Sprint users 866-750-7256.
Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Serves me right for trusting their MR update too soon. Maybe by this time next year they'll have fixed the problem. But of course the fix will create several new problems that are even worse!

If this is the best your company can do after 1 year of trying to fix issues I'm not sure i want your company's products

Mr. Samadi, your post seems to imply that the network connectivity issues are only being experienced by Verizon users, and not Sprint users. Nothing could be further from the truth. I experienced the issue with my post-MR 700p. Experienced it with the replacement 755p Sprint sent me, and am still experiencing it with my second 755p.

While the network connectivity issues are the biggest problem with the update, is anything being done to correct the random DTMF tone that plays before certain system sounds, even with the phone silenced? This is a problem with v. 1.10 on the 700p, and also I'm told on the 755p.

Who's in charge of quality control at Palm?

The data connection issue is also on sprint! what do you mean verizon only? Check treocentral! Sprint phones are constantly trying to reprovision and reconnect and fail to connect ALL the time now! :( I have missed TONS of calls because I later find that my phone was LOCKED in the reprovision state. Where is OUR fix? :(

Why not just forget about wasting time trying to do any more 700 MRs and give 700p owners a deep discount on the 755p with the return of their 700p's? This would be great for Sprint AND Verizon users (if Verizon ever launches the 755p).

There are also issues of a
1. DTMF tone sounding even when the device is on silent caused by the update.
2. Screen distortion caused by the update
as well as the data problem...

I see. The MR for Verizon is defective and the Sprint Desktop installer is also defective. didn't users in popular forums (say, Treocentral) pointed out these facts the moment the MRs came out? Are you guys listening to the crowd?
Now that you are working in the MR, would it be much to ask you to fix what you broke in this MR besides the Data connectivity problems? I am talking about the Digital tones that come out of the phone even when the silencer switch is on, also the fuzzy yellow lines in the Treo characters are something new post-MR.
But I guess it would take you another year to fix all of these and, perhaps in a crazy russian roulette game, we can start wondering what that new MR will break...

Any word on the audible alarm bug that the 700P MR caused?
When might we see some resolution on that issue? Any updates on it?

Sooo...when will the "extraneous DTMF tone for every System Sound even if the speaker switch is OFF" problem be resolved???

Interesting I did notice more of these errors BUT the VersaMail/Office sync issues have virtually disappeared and is now working as good or even better than my blackberry. I hope they don't screw it up when they "fix" these other problems

For Sam Samadi,
Sam please note that the SPRINT
MR has the same (albeit possibly
less prevalent/intense) network
connectivity issue as does the Verizon MR.
Since the Sprint MR, I now have to
try to connect twice (versus once)
in about 80% of the times I connect.
I get the "there is no network in
your area" error
Before I rarely (like 2%?) got it.
Fixing this issue and the "beep"
issue would be good.

I had a problem with the inability to connect to the Internet when I did the upgrade on my Verizon 700p. The Verizon tech reset everything on his end several times and I reset the phone and did the *228 thing. It didn't work. Finally, he suggested I pull the battery and let the phone sit for 2 hours and 15 minutes. He called back, we put the battery back in and the Internet was back to life. That was a couple weeks ago, still working fine.

Palm, Just Fix It.

The 700p is the worst disaster of a product in the marketplace today. You should give us all refunds and a coupon to Starbucks as well.

I just called the Verizon number above and spoke to a Palm rep. I was told that Palm is working on a fix and there is nothing they can do until a fix comes out. Palm had no estimate as to when the fix would be released and would not replace my phone. It's really an outrage that I paid over $600 for this phone for it's data capabilities and I'm unable to use it. I'm extremely disappointed with Palm's release of the updater and their customer service.

I am very disappointed in how Palm has handled the needed fixes for the Treo 700p.
Even if Palm finally issues a MR that actually resolves all the issues without causing new ones, my next phone will likely be an HTC in some form with windows mobile.
I don't see mention, but frankly the bluetooth although improved is still horrible compared to other phones. I also agree, where is the mention of the strange tone that now exist. And lastly, this post on the Palm blog showed up several days after it was all over the internet on various blogs and smartphone sites. It should have been here first.

Last Palm - Treo 700p

The audio tone issue with the Sprint release needs to be fixed. The minor tones even with the sound switched off are annoying generally, but if you are listening to music through headphones on the phone, they can be deafening. It's impossible to shut off the lost signal / found signal alerts -- resulting in deafening blasts on the subway here in NYC when listening to music. This was not an issue before the update -- and the only way I've found to deal with it is to shut down the phone entirely if I listen to music on the subway.

Sigh. I find it interesting that Palm NEVER responds to any of these blog entries. I guess the site is here so that users can moan and complain and feel better afterwards.
Like many, I've been a loyal Palm customer since the original Pilot, but the 700p fiasco has me searching for another unit. Blackberry was always a bit of a poor phone solution but that has gotten much better.
I'm asking myself if I really need some of the programs on my Treo because the audible tones are making the device unusable anyway as a business tool.
Palm needs to start posting here and answering questions and providing solutions.

Look- ever since Palm bought Handspring, the treo product line has been increasingly unreliable and unremarkable.
Is there some problem with manufacturing quality.

Will anything be done about the problem with bluetooth headsets and Seidio car cradles in the revised update?
Posted by: John Boyd | August 18, 2007 at 07:21 AM
Verizon Palm 700p users (MR 1.10) in 1X areas cannot connect to the network. 3000 Errors do not appear in this case. Just want to make sure that Palm understands that the 1X area issue is in addition to the issues listed in this original post.
Please contact me if you'd like more details on this issue or a beta tester for the patch.
I've had over four support tickets for this specific issue with Verizon over the last month.

I applied the MR (Verizon) within a day of the release. Install went fine, and I haven't noticed any issues other than the data connection issue.
That said, the data connection issue is killing me. I sync many email accounts (Palm ChatterMail) at a time, many times a day, and every second or third sync now fails. Chatter just claims that it can't connect, Blazer chimes in with the "Data Network not Available".
I called the number in the original post, and was told that they would want me to do a hard reset (wipe), and then spend a day using the Treo without any software/data loaded except the defaults that come in firmware. I may try that, although the phone is a lot less usefull without any email client (Verizon doesn't even put VersaMail in firmware). I'll try the "leave the battery out for 2 hours" suggestion first. :(
The MR has been great otherwise, but this problem is torture as prior to the upgrade, the data was always rock solid. I've had the 700p since January (and the 650 before it) and never had data connection problems. It's hard to imagine what "caused by a setting" means other than "bug in the MR firmware".
