Palm Foleo Developer Platform
The Palm Foleo was built on an open Linux-based platform because we understand the importance of creating a product that allows for the ability to continually add on new features and applications, including 3rd party development. So far, we have teamed up with two developers for built-in applications (Opera for web browsing and DataViz for document management), as well as 6 additional developers to make add-on applications available including solutions for productivity, security, entertainment and more (a full list of developer applications that have been announced is included below).
Today, we have another developer application for Foleo, LogMeIn, which allows users to access their desktop computer easily and securely while they are mobile.
We will continue to work on creating a strong developer community to deliver new applications
Also, here is a video clip of Jeff Hawkins talking about the importance of building a platform around the Foleo to create a dynamic developer community:

Full list of 3rd party applications:
-Astraware Limited provides two games for the new Foleo - Sudoku and Solitaire - with additional games to follow.

-Bluefire provides Foleo customers security for mobile data-in-transit. The VPN software client easily fits in with existing network infastructures and configurations, and functions across Wi-Fi, LAN and cellular networks.
-DataViz is providing the latest addition of Documents To Go, giving Foleo customers the ability to create, view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint compatible files on their Foleo mobile companion.
-LogMeIn is bringing remote PC access capability to the Foleo, providing instant, secure connections between remote PCs over the web - enabling easy desktop remote control, data backup and file sharing.
-MotionApps' mDayscape Personal Information Manager applications lets Foleo customers manage calendar, contacts and tasks on their devices and synchronizes with a Treo smartphone.
-Opera provides Foleo customers with the user-friendly Opera web browser, offering intelligent navigation features and support for advanced Web 2.0 applications using Ajax.
-SixApart gives Foleo users access to SixApart's wide range of blogging services including Vox, LiveJournal, Typepad and MoveableType.

just a thought, wouldn't it be a great idea to put information of the foleo right on top of the mobile palm portal homepage with an option to preorder-- so us palm fanatics, on the go, can pick it up day one!

Ok and when I'm going to have access to the SDK?

Sweet! I want to buy one already!

You guys are going in the right direction. You guys are knocking off the list of addons or features I outlined at http://palmloyal.com/addons.php?name=News&file=article&sid=17944
One I would add now that it is available is the Sprint Mobile Broadband USB Modem
info at http://www.sprint.com/business/products/phones/usbU720_allPcsPhones.html
Not everyone will have a Treo or want to use it for the Internet connection. This USB device will allow Internet almost anywhere.

I'd love to see on the Foleo a feed reader that could sync with Google Reader. Something like AvantGo, which would be great for offline reading.

Strangely I took a hard look at the Palm PDN site (Palm Developer Network). No mention of the foleo, other than a "notify me" button that doesn't do anything (Firefox browser).
So when, and how does a developer purchase a device with all the development goodies?
Thanks
Terry

I hope there will be a remote desktop client pre installed. It would be a shame if the remote access you speak of in the post would require the user to install software on their home pc, rather than using the built in remote desktop.
-Looking forward to the Foleo!

The right direction? This is going to be a colossal flop; all we need is yet another device to carry around, one that is clearly not indispensable. Palm, your days are numbered.

SDK available? Product available? Still this summer?

This picture of the Foleo looks so dated. Did you recruit your product design team from Xerox Park or TI?

There is a good utility called PDA-Reach, which allows you to operate the Treo from a connected PC. Something like that in the Foleo would allow you to use all the Palm OS software on the Treo (in my case: plucker, EndNote, FileMaker, Quickipedia etc. etc.) without needing to have it developed for / installed on the Foleo.
BTW availability in Europe - WHEN???

Please post a blog giving Palm's official reaction to Engadget's "Dear Palm" open letter.
We Palm users deserve to know if Palm management cares at all about its users and their main complaints about the Palm platform.
So far, the impression users get is that Palm management doesn't have a clue or doesn't care or can't take criticism.

A Microsoft Remote Desktop client and/or X server would make the Foleo a great thin client with the potential to completely replace a laptop. LogMeIn looks okay, but support for built-in remote access protocols would be a selling point.

Oh, ok. I'm still not buying it.
