Thank you for the very thoughtful post about Palm. I really appreciate the fact that you guys and others care enough to take the time to write such a comprehensive list of actions. I forwarded it to our entire executive staff and many others at Palm have read it. Although I can’t say I agree with every point, many are right on. We are attacking almost every challenge you noted, so stay tuned. Let’s remember that it is very early in the evolution of the smartphone and there is enormous opportunity for us to innovate. We have only just begun to fight!

Treo 700 Series Software Updates

We have temporarily taken down the Verizon Wireless Treo 700p and 700w/wx updaters as a result of reports from customers who have experienced data network connectivity issues after installing the software updaters on their device.

The issue is caused by a device setting that affects connectivity to the Verizon Wireless network under certain situations and only occurs on devices that have installed the updaters. Users receive an error message and typically can reconnect to the data network after a short period of time. This data connectivity issue does not affect the device or personal data in any other way.

We are currently working on delivering a solution and will repost the updaters as soon as they are available. If you would like to be notified by email when the updaters are available, please submit your email address: Treo 700p - Treo 700w/wx.

Treo 700p and 700w/wx users on Verizon Wireless experiencing the data connectivity issue will see the below error messages more frequently:

• "Error 3000 - Data network is not available"
• "Page Cannot Be Displayed"
• "Answering Modem is Disconnected"

Also, the Sprint Treo 700p desktop updater is no longer available due to additional reports of an installation issue that causes the device to continuously reset when installing the software update. The SD/MMC expansion card updater will continue to be available. You won't need to reinstall the software update if you have already done so successfully.

Home Run #756 - Barry Bonds Goes Yard

It's amazing to witness historical events first-hand, but it's even cooler when you can record it and take a physical copy of the memory home with you (hey, sometimes it comes in handy to prove to your friends that you were really there or just to have for when the old memory isn't as sharp as it use to be).

Last night, we (and a couple of other Palm employees) recorded video footage of Barry Bonds' MLB record-breaking 756th career home run on our Treo smartphones - check it out.

Palm Foleo Developer Platform

The Palm Foleo was built on an open Linux-based platform because we understand the importance of creating a product that allows for the ability to continually add on new features and applications, including 3rd party development. So far, we have teamed up with two developers for built-in applications (Opera for web browsing and DataViz for document management), as well as 6 additional developers to make add-on applications available including solutions for productivity, security, entertainment and more (a full list of developer applications that have been announced is included below).

Today, we have another developer application for Foleo, LogMeIn, which allows users to access their desktop computer easily and securely while they are mobile.

We will continue to work on creating a strong developer community to deliver new applications

-Astraware Limited provides two games for the new Foleo - Sudoku and Solitaire - with additional games to follow.

-Avvenu has created the Avvenu Access 'n Share service for the Foleo so users can access, enabling users to share digital content stored on their work or home PCs, untethered and over-the-air.

-Bluefire provides Foleo customers security for mobile data-in-transit. The VPN software client easily fits in with existing network infastructures and configurations, and functions across Wi-Fi, LAN and cellular networks.

-DataViz is providing the latest addition of Documents To Go, giving Foleo customers the ability to create, view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint compatible files on their Foleo mobile companion.

-LogMeIn is bringing remote PC access capability to the Foleo, providing instant, secure connections between remote PCs over the web - enabling easy desktop remote control, data backup and file sharing.

-MotionApps' mDayscape Personal Information Manager applications lets Foleo customers manage calendar, contacts and tasks on their devices and synchronizes with a Treo smartphone.

-Opera provides Foleo customers with the user-friendly Opera web browser, offering intelligent navigation features and support for advanced Web 2.0 applications using Ajax.

-SixApart gives Foleo users access to SixApart's wide range of blogging services including Vox, LiveJournal, Typepad and MoveableType.

-TealPoint offers Foleo customers a full suite of new security, entertainment and productivity applications including TealSafe, TealPaint, TealDiet, SudokuAddict and ShortCircuit, with more applications to follow.
