Windows Vista on Palm Desktop Beta
Windows Vista users, a beta release of the Palm Desktop is available for installation. Make sure to follow the installation instructions provided in the KB article.
We plan to make additional updates in the future to the beta release and would appreciate your feedback on the software, so please feel free to share your experiences/thoughts with us here.
-Palm Desktop Team
One of the reasons I have a Treo is its ability to sync with Mac, Windows and Linux.
I am surprised that I've never seen Palm release a Desktop for Linux. I use GNOME Pilot to sync, but it does not function as smoothly as ActiveSync did with my Windows based PDA.
Any chance we'll see Palm Desktop for Linux in the near future?
Thanks!
Zale

Two things:
1 - Does this mean an updated Palm Desktop for Mac is imminent?
2 - Will this Windows version support the LifeDrive in the future?

How come I have to disable 3 of the main apps included to get things to sync properly? I have to disable syncing tasks, memos, and pics and videos, or else it just freezes. This is with a Treo 755p on a Vista Ultimate 32 bit PC, and happens over USB or bluetooth.

Still BETA? This is not Web 2.0. Vista was released months ago. Very lame, Palm...but fits neatly into your hidden agenda to get rid of all your loyal customers.

Nice, but what about Palm Desktop for Ubuntu?

What a relief - finally a Windows Vista version! Well it has been nothing but frustrating since I saw this post. I have wasted too many hours trying to get back to being able to sync like the "good old days".
I cannot get Palm unloded from my computer. Two messages constatnly haaunt me. "Error 1306 an error occurred while trying ot read from the file C:\windows\installer\palmone.msi. I cannot find the file! Searches and Windows explorer turn up nothing. Then I get this message repeatedly still - notifier EASNotify.dll was not found. Hot Sync is skipping.....
This has been 8 months now. I was able to sync Outlook contacts and calendar - now I am able to do nothing. Can't even load the Beta (since I can't get rid of the old Palm. Now I did do a few patches to get something going. Did loading them cause my grief? I had to according to Palm to get outlook 2007 to work, which oarts of it did.
Anyone able to help this frustrated user?

It would be really cool that the new Palm Desktop synchronize Notes with the Notes Widget of Windows Vista, also the tasks and the Calendar. It would be really cool.

The USB drivers provided in this release don't seem to be compatible with Vista 64. Any plans to provide compatible USB drivers?

Well, I've tried unsuccessfully to get my device (Treo 650) to sync with the beta. I am using Vista Ultimate. UAC is enabled. Previous PDT (414e) was fully removed. I see no activity as far as driver installation when I attempt to sync the device (IOW: Vista never pops up one of those "new hardware found" displays). I've tried various USB ports. I've unplugged most every other USB device. With the previous version (414e) I had no trouble under vista with the same hardware.
Any suggestions? Feel free to contact me.

Does it support Calendar event timezones (as present i.e. in 680's calendar)?

WHAT THE HECK? Does PALM not care about Lifedrive users anymore? This is the last straw. I have been a faithful palm user since the very first one, to not be able to use this for my Lifedrive is crazy. I guess the geek in the store was right, palm is focusing on treo smartphones and that's it.

I noticed that this beta does not include the Palm Installer. From what I understand/remember the Palm Desktop and Hotsync run on vista, its the installer thats the problem.
While its about time you guys even start to get caught up to the rest of the world with an official vista compatible version of your software, I'm upset to see you miss the most important/broken aspect of your software package.

Hi,
I´m a brasilian sales instructor for PALM. I make part of the staff team. For this reason lot of questeions about PALM DESKTOP´s sincronization with Win Vista gets on me. I want to know what are the real imcompatibilities of the sincronization. And if this up date works on a betta version of Win Vista

What *I'm* really waiting for is a version of Palm Quick Install that's compatible with Vista... very frustrating.

Windows Vista has been out for over six months and Palm still does not have a working Palm Desk top. I installed the beta and now I receive the error "Notifier file 'EASnotify.dll was not found. Is there a solution for this problem.

This is inexcusable, Microsoft made Vista available to developers well over a year ago, you people think they were just kidding about releasing a new operating system? I am still looking at a lifedrive that cost a pretty penny and it basically is now nothing more than something to pass the time playing games on, or listen to mp3's since it won't synch with the desktop computer.

should the title be vista on pd or pd on vista? Sorry if I am confused.

beta software does not work on 64 bit version of windows. The desktop installs just fine, but it won't sync. Windows goes into a "loop" of error messages that there are no installed drivers for the device (Palm TX). Get it together guys! Vista has been out for a long time now. Little shareware companies have responded. You can too if you commit resources.

Dear Palm,
Would you please STOP, spending your effort making the all great new device-of-the-future Foleo and/or whatever the next great thing. And START fixing what should have been fixed A LONG TIME AGO...?
700P anyone? Proper Vista support anyone?
Or do you think it's a good gesture to your loyal user-base to PISS THEM OFF again and again?
It makes me think thrice (at lest!) to get another Palm device. POOR track record, just POOR man.
Or you just would like us to go WM or ALP?
Yours faithfully

when is palm going to put back the expense program in this "vista compatible" os??
Posted by: Mark | August 18, 2007 at 09:03 AM
The version they are advertising "works with windows vista" does NOT work on Vista x64.
Palm is improperly using the "Works with Windows Vista" Logo. According to the requirements, see
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/3/e/b3ee0542-12e2-4485-b4b8-5e20304a1ecc/Works%20with%20Windows%20Vista%20Software%20Logo%20Spec.doc
In section 1 it clearly states, "The application must be tested on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista."
They are abusing the logo, causing distrust in the logo, and degrading their own reputation.
If a product doesn't meet certain requirements, that's one thing, but claiming to meet requirements and then ignoring one of the most important logo requirements indicates that they only casually looked at the logo requirements and they hardly care about Vista support. Microsoft should at least make them stop using the logo, because they don't meet the requirements. If enough people complain, Microsoft / Palm will listen. Send email to swlogo@microsoft.com

I was very dependent on my Palm and still have not figured out what to do since I got Vista 64 bit. It is hard to believe that Palm is cutting out this section of their customers. Please advise if Palm ever plans on making this right.
