The SD card updater has been reposted to the Palm site - installation details can be found here. We are working to resolve the installation issue with the desktop updater and will make it available as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Verizon Wireless users, we will make the 700p MR available as soon as we can.
Paul Loeffler - Palm, Inc.
Paul: Thanks for the info regarding "The DTMF tone issue has been logged".
Given the YEAR we have waited for this MR, given this issue plagues the 755p, given the near ubiquitous nature of this problem on the 700p which HAD to show up during your Beta period:
Please tell me this problem was not "logged" only recently!
Also, does "logged" equal "will be corrected"???

Brought my tone-blocking-sounds 700p to Sprint, who ordered me a new one. A week later, they re-ordered it, and tried to give me a refurbished one. After comlaining loud enough, they replaced it with a new 755p. $50 for a 2GB mini-SD card later, I have to say I am very pleased. Needless to say, though, I'm pretty sure that this is my last Palm product.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!
Paul.
You just gave three quick comment updates.
NONE of them were about the Verizon MR.
Man, I can't wait until next August when I can dump this piece of crap for a new phone. And get as far away from Palm as possible. Shame really, since I will have to re-purchase years of software. But if it gets me to a RELIABLE PHONE AND COMPANY, all the better.
Thanks for abandoning your most loyal customers right as your biggest (perceived) competition is released. Palm, you're digging your own grave. And you're about five feet deep already.

Paul,
You said that the DTMF tone issue has been logged. What will this mean in terms of a fix?
I'm hesitant to apply the patch. I too work in an environment where I need to have the phone truly silenced. This beep would create difficulties to say the least. So, I'm forced to choose between levels of dysfunction. In this case, the pre-MR state is the lesser of two evils.
Can you indicate if a patch for the DTMF bug is in the pipeline?

Gentlemen: Won't you please have a bit more consideration for the Verizon 700P users and tell us a bit more definitively "when" then MR update will be posted for us? "Communications is the breakfast of champions."

Paul,
Do you know what happened to e-mail icon that gets displayed in the phone application left of time display?
It used to come up when I had new e-mail in my VersaMail. It is a very useful feature and I do not quite understand what happened to it.
I spoke with James at tech support and he was not able to tell me why you guys decided to eliminate it. Just for your info ticket number is:
1-187745739
I would appreciate if you send me an e-mail to let me know if you think this will be addressed.
Thanks in advance for looking into it.
Regards,
Dmitri

Logging a problem isn't fixing the problem. With the release of the iPhone on Friday, I would think Palm would begin to realize they are in signficant trouble. I suggest an email compaign to the leadership of Palm. Let Ed Colligan know how we feel.

"Well, in general a new platform strategy I think that's, next calendar year is the timeframe. We are not going to get in to specifics on that. I think the reality is we will deliver some new smartphone products through the rest of this calendar year on both our Windows Mobile and Palm OS platforms. And product based on the new Linux-based platform that we are working on, that won't be until some time next year. [...] We are not waiting for next generation platform developments to deliver some great new products."
Okay Palm we hear you but will the new OS be sold or release as a upgrade for current devices ie 700/755p?????????

Paul,
This MR introduces at least 2 major problems for me:
1) The new Bluetooth implementation (apparently similar to the 755p) prevents you from using a BT headset if you have something connected to the headset jack (such as a cable connecting my Treo to my car stereo). I connect my Treo to my car stereo so I can listen to audiobooks on my daily drive, but after the MR I can no longer use my BT headset to answer calls.
Since there is a California law going into affect that requires phones to be used handsfree, this prevents me from using my Treo the way I've been using it (and my 650 before) for over 2 years.
2) The system beep that occurs in certain situations even when the Treo is set to silent mode. There are certain situations where it is absolutely critical that the phone be silent and every phone supports this functionality. However, this MR causes the Treo to beep even when in silent mode.
My question to you is will there will be another MR for the Sprint 700p that will fix these issues?
If not, how do I get my Treo 700p restored so that it is functional?

OK, I've waited long enough for my Verizon MR.
Goodbye Palm. Hello iPhone.
I'm done with this.

Could you please provide us an update on when the MR for Verizon users might be coming out?
Posted by: Rich Jones | July 03, 2007 at 05:44 AM
Request for acknowledgement.... and separate Verizon MR status blog
I am requesting a blog specifically for the Verizon MR and its status for release.. (Even to convey that there is or is not a timeframe) but some kid of acknowledgment so that se can continue to work with Verizon as we continue to have issues with the 700p.
Since we are the customers we should not be the ones caught in the middle trying to prove that there is a known problem/issue when we need our 700p replaced.
I also believe that since this we are working with retarded functionality and frustration dealing with constant freezes , reboots and device incompatibility, are getting degraded service which we are paying full price for. It is not fair for customer to have to spend hours on the phone with either of the palm or Verizon support centers trying to troubleshoot or replace known problem. and still keep paying full price.
I think Verizon should also MR should be implemented by Verizon by replacing our 700p’s with 700ps that have already been updated with the MR.
I guess I am still holding out for a positive resolution by palm... before something better comes along…

Short update: I know, I said I had little difficulty in updating via the SD card and then restoring with NV Backup...
I suppose the honeymoon's over as my unexpected resets are getting more frequent each day. ###377# only trapped one of them, while Reset Doctor's crash log caught them all and reported them as resets with no error (ostensibly a user initiated reset by the invisible man!)
Very annoying and problematic as I now cannot depend on the phone - except to reset at the most inopportune times.
My Agency was considering Treo's over Blackberry"s - maybe Sprint or Palm can give me a reason not to can that evaluation...

I'm so gone Palm. I can't handle the lies anymore.

Paul,
Dare to comment on the following post?
http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=147051
The picture therein could very well be fake... not that I expect Palm to say anything concrete about the 700p anymore but you can see what users will do to get some tidbits of info.
Many headaches would be avoided if Palm was more forthcoming...

"Treo Smart Phone Alarm System"
To whom it may concern:
I will be blunt!! I realy think "palm" Treos are better than "Research In Motion Limited" Black Berrys by far. I think BB is beating palm in style and
easyness of use. One major problem with the treo is the alarm system. BB has this feature down packed. I can say that 78% of my business colleague
and my self are not happy with treo alarm system.
In the real world your alarm cannot be in increments of 5 minutes. You should be able to input on the: calendar, task, alarm any time you wish these
reminders to alarm you. Let say you have a meeting at 2:34 and you would like to input "don't forget to have a mint before the meeting starts" you should
be able to input that information 2 minutes before if you want "lets say at 2:31 before you step into your meeting.
Let say you will be at lunch at 11:30 You should be able to input at 11:27 "Call valet guy to bring my Mercedes to the front door" I guess by now you see
where i'm going with this. Please for the next generation of Treos please help those of us that really depend on this type of feature. Thank You so Much for
your time.
Sincerely yours, Edward Balbi

It's now after the 4th of July... You have only re-released an MR for Sprint that causes more problems than it fixes. You have not released it to be installed via a desktop. Not everyone owns an SD card so that leaves them out in the cold. You have never released anything for Verizon users at all. It's another 2 months past your initial May 28th deadline which itself was delayed. This is insanity.

It is so sad to see Palm ignore it's user base and start going down in flames.

Interesting find...I just got a warranty replacement for my VZW 700p, and the software version is 1.10, whereas my crappy one was 1.06...Could Palm be trying to Beta test through user now? Haven't tried it out yet, but we'll see if it is an updated "MR". Care to comment Paul?
Posted by: vandit23 | July 06, 2007 at 09:00 PM
People are stating the Verizon 1.10 update is available at the verizon stores, only if you call and push the issue, and jump through hoops,is this for real?
Some reps from vzw know about it while others dont...
Why has there been no announcement?
Whats with the secret update some get and others don't?
Why isn't it posted on palms site, but available to those who secretly are allowed?
Posted by: wassup | July 07, 2007 at 11:35 AM
Absolutely amazing. Today is 7/7/7 good luck Paul you and Palm need it. Still no posting from Palm about the Verizon MR update. However the http://www.palminfocenter.com/ site says that it is already at certain Verizon stores. I called one in Alamogordo NM and they said that the started updating their instore units yesterday. I'll get mine done there tomorrow. Will let everyone know if successful. But what a shame on you and Palm for not letting all of these blogers who have been asking every day for months "WHEN WILL IT BE AVAILABLE" that it is already at the stores. Bad way to do business.

could you tell me again why you say no update needed for alltel?
Posted by: h | July 08, 2007 at 05:10 AM
Other forums are reporting the 700p MR has now been sent to Verizon stores and that we can go to the store to have it installed. Is there also a plan to release the MR on the website?
Posted by: David | July 08, 2007 at 12:48 PM
I don't know if Palm will post this but I went to my Verizon store 7/8/07 and after much discussion and persuasion got them to do the new OS 1.10 update. I first did a full backup of all my applications onto the SD card. They used an SD card with the new OS which took in excess of 20 minutes and then a hard reset. I now have OS v1.10 and Bluetooth v. 3.1.2. I inserted my SD card and did a restore. Guess what IT WORKS wonderfully. My bluetooth now stays connected. Occasionally the bluetooth icon on the phone would turn blue and all I had to do was push the button on the BT ( I use the Plantronics 510 which is the best) and the earphone icon shows back up. Even if the icon is blue and someone calls it will automatically connect to the BT ( I have it set to connect after two rings). Very pleased with the update. Can't understand why Verizon and Palm have not let us know about this. Demand it from your Verizon store...
Best
Harvey

Why are we learning through 3rd party blogs about the Verizon update being available in stores when Palm has an OFFICIAL blog??? Isn't that the whole point of this site?
