Sprint 700p MR Available
The SD card updater has been reposted to the Palm site - installation details can be found here. We are working to resolve the installation issue with the desktop updater and will make it available as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Verizon Wireless users, we will make the 700p MR available as soon as we can.

When will the VZW update be avail? I've been with palm forever, had all the treos but this 700p is frustrating me to no end, the lack of info/suport doesn't make it any easier. I'll tell you iphone is looking beterer and bettererrrr.

Did the update per the instructions and used the Treo 700p itself as a cardreader. Install went smoothly and the instructions seemed mostly accurate (e.g., I did not get prompted for language at the end even though the instructions said I should). Will probably take some time to see whether performance improvements are real.

Well this non-update for Verizon users is the final straw for me. I can only hear so many times that the MR will be available as soon as possible or that you don't have a definite date for it's release. After waiting a year for it what reason would I have to expect that "soon" means anything close to "within the next few days/weeks". I have given up on Palm and these repetitious slap in the face updates are what drove me to my decision. That, and the fact that even the newly rereleased Sprint MR is ONLY for SD cards. You are barely supporting ONE carrier as it is after so long. So I sadly say that after a history of owning 6 Palm handhelds and Treos, I am done with this company. And I know I am not the only one who was driven to this conclusion. For the sake of the company as a whole, I really do hope they do some housekeeping with those of you who made the 700p the fiasco that it has become.

Hmm...
I'm one of the ones that the desktop method worked perfectly...
NOW that the update is again available (hopefully something changed) I downloaded it and installed the sd method this time.
OH, MY GOD. That's all I have to say. Press phone, home, and phone, and home, and phone again and watch how fast it flies. Blazer now launches instantly...and when I hit the home button, it exited (yes, you guessed it....instantly).
Also, when my device turned on before or restarted the phone wouldn't automatically start, and I'd have to turn it on manually (no biggie) but this is again fixed and turns on as it's supposed to.
People, download the MR. Palm has finally got their together.

In the process of doing an SD update as I write this... I noticed some differences in the screen shots of what to expect during the process. It read backing up for a while and then now reads restoring. My question is backing up and restoring what? Nothing remains after a hard reset. Or is this something to do with the separation of the ROM and firmware update?

Hi, I'm a 700p user with Verizon and I've only been bothered by lag - I use a wire for my headset, no Bluetooth except for TomTom.
To everyone complaining loudly to Palm about the VRZW update: Palm sells the vast majority of their gear to Verizon and Sprint, not you. I know we buy indirectly but the OEMs cut the checks for pallets o' gear and have legal contracts about what Palm can publicly say. Do you really want to hear a day by day account of Palm and Verizon debugging the MR and coordinating the release of information with marketing and support? Do you think Palm is 100% certain of the release date (or even week) and is allowed to blog about it? It's unrealistic.
If checking the blog everyday is a pain, check once a week. My phone works fine for GPS, web access, modem, camera, multiple email accounts, and, oh yeah, it works as a phone too! All of this without the MR though I do want the lag fixed. We can wait and if it's too much to bear, buy a new phone from a different manufacturer once your contract is up. Of course, there's no guarantee that new phone (even the iPhone) will be some perfect nirvana with no bugs and super responsive direct user support.
I look forward to the 2nd generation Linux phone from Palm in about 3 years. Maybe I'll get it once the MR is released for this future Linux rev... early adoption has it's risks. :)
PS- Palm, what we're you thinking with the Foleo! I'll use a real laptop instead. Plus, I keep thinking of Beavis saying "I am Corn-Foleo, I need Treo for my ...." ;)

Followed the directions WORD for WORD. Installation was perfect as soon as I was about to sync at the end of the process my treo turns off for being idle. So i press the power to turn the screen back on, and its restarting. When ever the treo turns off and i turn it back on it resets. The only way I could keep it on was have pTunes run in the background all day looping the 2 30seconds songs that come with. I had to do this just to get my calls... Thank you. I love this update.

So we're clear, the SD updater they've posted to the site is the exact same file from earlier this month and later took down -- the same one that, while not bricking my phone during the install, made it considerably more prone to crashes while using certain apps, and resets while using the phone.

Just upgraded my Sprint 700p to the new update v1.10. Now the Treo cannot communicate with M. Benz Bluetooth system at all. Before the update, I was able to use it. Now I want to know if there is anyway I can go back to the previous version. So far, I have not seen any improvement over the previous version. It crashed once for no reason. Switching to the Blazer browser is just as slow.

Just a little too late guys (actually several months too late). Verizon BB 8830 arrived last week and has not yet crashed, locked up, or even demonstrated any lag. Also pairs with bluetooth headsets with no problems.
It's not the same as a Treo, and I really miss Palm OS. What really makes PalmOS for me though is the community. There is a lot of quality free software, information, and help all over the place for PalmOS, not so for BB. Are you listening Palm? It is the community that makes PalmOS so great and useful, and you have shown that community nothing but disrespect with the Treo 700p and the way you have handled this whole mess.
I am happy I have a device that works (and works well) but I honestly do miss PalmOS. However, what choice did I have?

Just want to add to the large number of requests for a timely update. I continue to wait as my palm stalls on me on an hourly basis.

Installed the updated MR... A day later 2 resets and some strange noise on the speaker when making calls. Otherwise OK. A question though, is the security patch included in the MR or should it still be applied?

do you plan to release an update for the alltel 700p. if not do you plan to refund the purchase price to those customers that wasted their money on one of these phones? do you even care enough about your customers to answer my questions? we'll see.

When will the Verizon update be available?
According to Verizon, the only problem that the 700P has is occasionally slowing down when an SMS message comes in. So, don't hold your breath. They're probably hoping you just buy the new phone when it comes out. Admit it, we got hoodwinked by a placeholder product that was rushed to market so that palm would not seen to be the empty technology shell of a company.
And that is a shame..
As much a I am going to hate biting the $175 early termination fee and going back to AT&T (my former employer, and I'm one of those who got hosed on the original AT&T Wireless stock scam...), the IPhone is just too compelling a collection of technology, even with its closed architecture, to pass up as opposed to this pile of barely useable junk from a dying company (the 700P). I haven't been this disgusted with a product since the Model I TRS-80 in the late 70s.

It looks like you made a mistake on the Mac OS X update page at http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/treo700pupdate/sprint_installmac.html
Point 10 should read: "Perform a HotSync operation with your beloved Macintosh computer to restore the data you backed up at the beginning"
Right now, it reads: "Perform a HotSync operation with your Windows PC to restore the data you backed up at the beginning." Not right.

Now Call-waiting seems botched.
Pre 1.10, all was well.
Now with the MR, if I get an inbound call, after the first call-waiting beep I can no longer hear my caller. The second call is there, but the first call dies 50% of the time.
Anyone else?
And yes, I too have the DMTF tone issue. Wow - Great QA, Palm!

Verizon Wireless users, we will make the 700p MR available as soon as we can.
Does this mean you have the MR back from Verizon and are working on putting it out on the support page????

I preformed the re-released SD Update and followed the directions from Palm. Before running the updater, I performed a HotSync, then a backup with NVBackup, and copied the contents of my SD card to my computer.
I ran the updater with the phone off. Everything went smoothly and the update ran with no problems. Or so I thought.
I did NOT do a full restore from either HotSync or NVBackup. Rather I renamed my BackUp folder, so I could start with a clean install of data and only install the latest version of programs I actually use, and to eliminate any junk with may have been residing in RAM.
The initial hotsynch ran with no problem. My calendar, contacts, tasks and memos all transferred smoothly. In the three days since, I have discovered five bugs/features.
1. The night I ran the update, I heard the tones coming from my silenced 700p. This is unacceptable, since I am a trial attorney and if your phone makes noise in a courtroom, it is confiscated. Interestingly, if the sound switch is left on and I try the tone test I can hear BOTH the normal error tone and the new, faint, tone at the same time.
2. When I went to manually add my Blazer bookmarks one site at a time, the program would not let me add them past page 2 without losing them. When I go to the edit mode, the icon shows that there are saved bookmarks, which can be moved (sometimes), but when you go back to the bookmarks view, the boxes are blank and when you tap on them, they are empty. Curiously, the bookmark this Palm blog was never "lost".
3. I would like to be able to view my upcoming events on the Phone, so I checked the Phone => Options=> Phone Display Options => "Show Calendar event" box to do so. It does not work. All it shows is no upcoming events, not matter what is on my Calendar. There are no third party dialing or calendar programs on my Treo.
4. Also, I have lost the ability to see how many new e-mails I have when I am at the Phone's main window. (I reloaded Chatter from scratch and have not even looked at VersaMail since I ran the 1.10 update.) My e-mails come from an Exchange Server and before the update I did not have this problem.
5. Finally, I went to the mypalm.com web site to re-download the Palm Backup beta, which I had installed before the 1.10 update. When I ran Palm Backup beta, it wanted to restore my data. I did NOT performed a manual update just before running the 1.10 Update (D'oh!!!) Since I had entered some calendar events after the update, I did not want to loose them. I tried to restore the preferences and data from NVBackup, but no luck. So I took the plunge and everything went well - except that all of my non-recurring calendar events were duplicated. Arghhh! A hotsynch with "desktop overrides handheld" solved that (I think), but it took a very long time to do.
All in all, not a very satisfying experience, since it caused more problems than it solved.

Still, you dare to claim that you don't know when will the MR for Verizon be ready? Can you please give us something concrete? Not that I will believe you anyways, your track record is not the best around the block.
Versamail, Blazer, switching apps... I am on my 2nd 700p with Verizon and the problems are here. The iPhone is coming and a slew of new HTC models are waiting to be on the market come end of summer. I gave you guys 90 days to release the MR (same 90 days I have to change my 2nd 700p) and you have only 60 more. If nothing is done by then, I'll drop my 700p from my life and move to something else. It will be an expensive move but I am willing to do it.
And I'll make sure I mail you guys my old 700p or what is left of it after I am done venting my frustrations on it.

Post #2. I guess I am one of the few that the 700p verizon works fairly well. Only 1 reset on 2 months, only ongoing problem is keeping the bluetooth connected. Used the Plantronics 510 on my 650 worked super. Switched to the 700p and can not keep it connected. Verizon said they support the 320, bought one and it was much worse than the 510. Otherwise not a bad phone just no functional bluetooth. Shame on Verizon and Palm

Dear Palm:
I've never seen such a blog filled with such negativity. You guys are so pathetic that you keep us waiting it's not even funny anymore.
If I treated my clients at work the way you treat your faithful users, they would have fired me 11 months ago. The problem is that we, everyday consumers, have families and responsibilities that we just can't keep plunking down $400, $500, $600 on phones. I need my Treo to work now as promised.
Give us Verizon users some real-life information on when we'll get what should have gotten and paid for 12 months ago.
Thank you.

I have applied the update from the first day of release, having done it then by the SD stick method (lucky I own a Mac I guess cuz it forced me to use this method). Anyway, the update does make things better mostly, but in some ways things are worse. The lag is better I find if I power cycle the device each morning. It starts to slow down again by the end of the day, but still it's far better than it was, as I experienced white screens for up to a minute when opening Blazer. P-tunes only seems to skip the first time I shut off the screen, so it's now usable, whereas before I had skips throughout my songs. Bluetooth...oh, it isn't really any better, and even worse. I use the Samsung WEP200 and have for about 6 months. Right after applying this MR my WEP200 locked up with a solid blue light, then finally no light at all. I took it to Sprint and got a brand new one. Within one week I got the lockup and solid blue light again. The only way to reset it was to put the earpiece on the charger. After two days in a row of this I had it replaced again with a new one by Sprint. So far so good but then it hasn't been a week yet. However, I have complained to Sprint's support department about this faulty phone, but because it is now out of warranty, they won't do anything about it except give me $75 off of a new phone. Tempting, but why should I pay another $400-500 for a new phone when I just paid several hundred a year ago for this one? I honestly don't want to leave the Palm platform because I've got at least a couple of hundred dollars invested in additonal software, some of which is very heavily used on a daily basis, such as HanDbase. The Treo also has all of the features that I want in a smart phone. However, I can't see myself buying another Palm product after this fiasco of poor support and shoddy workmanship.

So, do I have to wait another YEAR (yes, literally one year for this MR) for the update that will correct the problems introduced by this MR? The DTMF tone produced when ANY system sound is played cannot be silenced with the switch on the top of the phone. This has rendered my 700p USELESS in meetings which is the primary place I use it!!!

THE OTHER CARRIERS NEED THE MR ALSO. YOU KNOW IT. TELL THE TRUTH!
