The Treo 700p maintenance release (MR) is expected to be available on Monday (June 4th) for Sprint users via the palm.com website. We will post an update here on the blog with a link to the MR once it is live. We don't have a specific date for when the 700p MR will be available for Verizon Wireless users at this time.
Paul Loeffler - Palm, Inc.
Basically, I am sick of poor customer service. I have had 5 other Palm devices over the years, this is the only one I have regretted. I tried a Motorola Q for a few weeks and then decided to get the 700p, big mistake. This is way beyond just a simple software update. You needed to have recalled these things. Offer an option to upgrade to a different model or something. I feel trapped. 2 year Verizon contract. Palm, this is unethical. You have ripped people off. You took advantage of our loyalty (which you had truly earned). Now it is time to just correct your mistakes. ANYONE WHO THINKS CLEARLY CAN SEE THAT A SIMPLE MR IS "NOT" GOING TO ACTUALLY FIX THIS. If it could have you would have issued it along time ago (there have been guidence systems for space craft that where developed in less time). You knew monthes ago how broad the scope of this design flaw was. THAT IS WHY IT HAS BEEN SO DIFFICULT TO DEVELOP AN "MR". This has been a MUCH bigger undertaking than you have told people. No integrity! No respect! I just wonder how much of a hit your stock value would have taken with a big recall or full disclosure. With the rumors of takeover bids and such, could it be more profitable to keep this swept under the rug. Anyhow, you need to just be honest and correct the problems, ie. recall and replace.

I'm a verizon wireless customer and have been a Treo user for three years. My 700P is not only a nuisance but a security risk since it's so unreliable. That reminds me, I'd better go and take the cover off and reset it. I hope the update is soon in case I have an emergency and can't use my phone because I have to reset it again.

How about a little straight talk on this issue for a change?
Drop the corp-speak facade and level with us Verizon 700p owners.

Paul, thanks for the notice. As an engineer at one of the world's largest hardware/software companies, I understand the process and why schedule slips occur. However, could you enlighten us on a) what is fixed, and b) what caused the schedule to slip (e.g. carrier certification, bug found in regression testing, etc.)?

This is pathetic:
"
We don't have a specific date for when the 700p MR will be available for Verizon Wireless users at this time.
"
Are you kidding? I want to throw my phone against the wall every single time that I use it!
I used to like Palm, even wrote some software. Now I will never buy another Palm device again.

"We don't have a specific date for when the 700p MR will be available for Verizon Wireless users at this time." Translation: "We lied to you about when we are going to release the MR for your palms to keep you all from switching to a company that cares enough about it's users to make a useable product." After so many years of using Palms I guess I shouldn't be surprised any longer.

will the 755p also need an upgrade? I'm asking because I am having allot of the same BT issues and since the 755p is basically a 700p in a different package. another issue is that the native IM software that comes with the phone resets the phone everytime I attempt to open it.

Please, please, any idea when MR will be available for Verizon customers. I too have been long Palm customer, but this treo is frustrating.

In the spirit of the blog, perhaps you could write these responses atleast to feel like you're talking to us average users versus nicely written, marketed responses crafted for everyday, numb people who will nod their heads like the audience in the Mac 1986 commercial with the Javelin thrower.
Paul, I'm sure you dreaded writing this post and I don't blame you. Besides giving the dreadful news, did you ever consider being a little more open with us? How about telling us why and giving us some details? Have you been reading the TreoCentral boards -- they're about one day away from imploding and I don't blame them. Paul, don't you think you owe us this one little extra baby step? Perhaps on your little TPS blog report, there wasn't enough space for honest discloure?
Also if I can also say... shame on Jeff Hawkins for failing in his chief duty as innovator, with the introduction of the Foleo, Folio, Fuhlio, or whatever. I can't believe you guys wasted good resource time on developing this. Did you all miss the internal meeting to confirm that people have laptops for power productivity and smartphones for on-the-go productivity? Didn't anyone focus test this "revolution" or did Jeff wake up with a "neat" idea and move on it?
Jeff (is it OK if I call you Jeff?), this makes you seem out-of-touch with your core, loyal users and an ineffective innovator at Palm. Take a lesson from Steve and do what Apple does best... support their existing, loyal customers who come back hungry, drooling for the highest innovation, but even better, (listening Jeff?) fixing what's not working.
Ahem, can I say this louder for the Palm folks not listening to me with their iPods (that work flawlessly, I might add) tucked in their little Palm ears... THEY FIX WHAT DOESN'T WORK.
Now, get on back to your nice little cubes and call Verizon to how you boys can make your little widget fit nicely into their radio dongle so us user folk slobs can actually make a call or use a little piece of radical, new technology called Bluetooth.
Thank you for listening and good night.

How long will I have to wait for the Alltel fix?
Posted by: Roger Livingston | June 02, 2007 at 07:48 PM
I own a 700p, Verizon version. I've been a palm owner for over 10 years. I'm very much disappointed that teh fix for my phone doesn't even have a date. I have to soft reset my Treo at least 7 or 8 times a day. On top of that it resets itself without my help another 5 times. Please show a little care for your loyal customers.

First palm...after this...LAST palm you really blew it this time

The ROM update should have been released the day the 755p was made available for Sprint. It is poor judgement on Palm's behalf, thinking the delay will allow for more of its customers to go out and buy the 755p. Loyalty is built upon trust and unfortunately, many of Palm's followers are moving to a Blackberry device or the new WM6. Great products need even better tech/customer support.

this is so impressive update -_-' I don't see any reason why you guys are believable anymore. I can only cross my fingers to see this MR really improve my 700p.

The the time frame for Alltel is...?
Posted by: Rick Shaneyfelt | June 03, 2007 at 06:48 AM
I agree. I've been waiting for this release forever not to mention that Sprints' response in store is to reset the machine and the normal marketting jargon that goes along with purchasing such a device as the 700p. Its ashame we've been waiting this long with Palm introducing new devices/OS's that actually work versus freezes and constantly requiring a reboot. I totally question my purchase daily and struggle with whether I should jump ship and get a Windows Mobile version or the iPhone. Palm, get your act together and hear the consumer!
Posted by: Darren | June 03, 2007 at 09:45 AM
this is terrible. I've had the 700p on Verizon since *last July* and Palm is still not addressing the software problems with this phone. If this is the kind of support I expect to get in the future, it's the last time I buy a Palm phone. What's the big holdup?
Posted by: S | June 03, 2007 at 11:14 AM
They didn't say what year, they probably mean 2008.

700p fiasco + Poorly thought out Foleo = Bye Bye Palm
Posted by: Matt M. | June 03, 2007 at 01:27 PM
Totally unacceptable. Shame on Palm for releasing a product that is so unstable, and then making users wait almost a year before releasing a magic pill that will make the phone usable.
This is what the Attorney General's Office is for, people. When a business misrepresents, misinforms and acts with total disregard to customer satisfaction, that is when the customer needs to respond. I have contacted my local office on Fri and am following up with them Monday.
Inexcusable.

Uh oh! I smell a mutiny a' bruin'! Yarrrr! Kinda gives the app "Palm Revolt" a whole new meaning, huh? That's what you get for your horrible customer service. For shame Palm. For shame.

So...........The Telus update will be coming the week of the 28th of what month/year?????
I'm so keyed up about the Foleo ads you keep showing. Couldn't possibly be anything wrong with it? Of course not!
