Updated (June 4)
The 700p MR is available for Sprint users. To download to your Treo device visit: http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/treo700pupdate/sprint.html.
-----
The Treo 700p maintenance release (MR) is expected to be available on Monday (June 4th) for Sprint users via the palm.com website. We will post an update here on the blog with a link to the MR once it is live. We don't have a specific date for when the 700p MR will be available for Verizon Wireless users at this time.
Paul Loeffler - Palm, Inc.
After watching the recent things unfolding in Palm, I can gather that there's clearly a PR deficiency in Palm organization.
There's a clear trend of Palm underestimating their own customer's needs (READ: DEMAND) and their own self perception (READ: ABILITY TO SUPPLY).
Come on, get it together mates! Don't you see you have so many supporters online? People whom wanted you to prevail so bad, yet you disappoint them again and again by not listening to what they truly want?
I'm not saying to bend down and follow your customer's every whim (Although this WILL get you good profit). But you should ADDRESS them and MANAGE THEIR EXPECTATIONS well.
they get so disappointed because you don't listen to them?

Palm
This has really been blown badly. I was quite excited about the expected 800p announcement this week for my neext Linux/palm phone, and I got Foleo. Quite a disappointment.
All I can say is that the MR really needs to blow my socks off.
I feel really sorry for the Verizon folks.

Paul,
Thanks for being up front with us about the delay. The 700p MR has been long in the making, but I would rather see it done right then done wrong and rushed out the door.
Regards,
Alan G

Thanks Paul. Looking forward to the fixes on Monday. Have a beer on me (although it may take more than one after some of these posts).

Hmmm, that's pretty disappointing, I'm a Verizon customer...

I must agree with the other posts... I look forward to having the problems on my current Palm product fixed, but I am going to take a much harder look at other smartphones the next time I decide to upgrade.
I think the only thing more disappinting than the repeated delays in fixing the 700p problems is the fact that these flaws were on this flagship product to begin with.

I am a looooonnng time Palm user and I hate to say that at my earliest convenience I'm switching brands. This hurts because I love my Treo but I'm tired of being misled.

First the disappointing news about Foleo being the big new release and now this. I'm a Verizon customer and I've been holding off on switching to a Blackberry because I believed you when you said the MR was being released the week of 5/28. Now you're saying you have no specific date when the Verizon MR will be released. I promise you that I will not wait forever. My breaking point is not far off. This is such a sad day for me as I've been hooked on Palm since the days of the Palm Pilot. How far the mighty have fallen.

Please get a firm date immediately. This is unacceptable.

Going to be expected or going to be live? Stop using manipulative language please.

WHAT ABOUT US ALLTEL USERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: 754boy | June 01, 2007 at 07:46 PM
how about the 700p alltel? you shouldn't have released this phone until it was ready. i "upgraded" from a 650 and have had problems with the bluetooth ever since. it sure is a temptation to "upgrade" to another brand

I've got to chime in as well - this is getting to be more than ridiculous. And Palm hopes we'll just plunk down money for another untested, possibly unusable product in the Foleo? Not without some additional carrot/discount for suffering with the 700p for a year of quirks and instability that the company finally acknowledges.
I'm done converting people to Treos - this is ludicrous.
OpenMoko anyone?

I have been a loyal user of Palm equipement beginning with the 600, the 650 and now the 700p having lived a large variety of earlier Qualcomm devices. I have endured a year of lock-ups, freeze-ups, and numerous other 'events" due an extremely flawed platform in the 700p. It is painful to watch a firm like Palm and its partner carriers self destruct in this manner. You would think that in an age where Smartphones are beginning to take over the business and professional cell-phone markets that Palm and its partners would have seen the value in admitting the release of a seriously flawed platform and either recalled the failed product or admitted the failure and fixed the problems. Rather then making that choice, Palm and its partners have pushed the entire smartphone community into exploring and considering other options for all future purchasing decisions in this market. In this marketplace, the lack of customer service and support will mark a watershed event that like Qualcomm before it, Palm will never be able to recover from. The marketplace is harsh and cruel mistress with a very long memory. In the end, vengency is a dish best served cold. In this instance, Palm will be left out in the cold of this market for the forseable future.

Love my 700p, even with the lag. Am stoked about the MR and look forward to it on Monday. Thanks for your canor (as far as posting on the blog and such) on the matter, Matt

Are we talking days, weeks or months in terms of the release date for the Verizon MR?
Posted by: c5vettes | June 01, 2007 at 09:07 PM
Still left hanging after about a year of patient waiting. How disappointed. Guess it's not a very high priority for Palm to get the fix. Good bye Palm.

A firm date! Great news! Thanks for the update. I am stoked to see how stable and better my treo will be after this update! I am a first time treo user, but long time palm user. I love my treo...it sucks with all the freezing, and random auto resetting...and i do miss being able to use my bluetooth ear piece that i used with my previous phone (A900). I hope this update fixes this, and allows me to have a GREAT treo experience.
THANKS PALM!

Well, I was waiting on this release for my recently purchased Verizon 700p, as I am experiencing the frustrating and inexcusable lockups in SMS messages, but since it's a crapshoot as to whether the MR will be available before my 30-day trial period is up (in which I can return this infernal device), I guess it's Bye-Bye Palm!!
Thanks for nothing, guys!!

Im not a Palm apologist, but don't all you complainers realize that it is probably 99.9999% Verizons fault for the indefinite release. If the carriers didn't have to certify every little change (Read install their crapware) then palm could move really fast on these. Lets face it, there are most likely passionate palm enthusiasts who work for Palm, that would love to release these fixes ASAP, but the doggone carriers stifle their creativity and ultimately innovation. I mean what do they care (carriers), to them you are just a small pittance. You leave they dont care. Don't abandon ship because of this. Palm see

Can there be a mass reporting of Palm to the Better Business Bureau or some kind of class action deal? Isn't it illegal to keep releasing products that are known to be defective? It's gotta be false advertising or something. Shouldn't Palm have to be doing everything within its power to fix a defective product (and by that I mean shouldn't Palm not be devoting resources to all their new products until they can support their current products).
Yes the carriers are to blame too but they are only taking so long to test a fix on a product that they also trusted would be working (they wouldn't have been in this predicament had Palm released a quality product in the first place) - But we should still call/email our carriers (I'm talking about Verizon in particular) if we don't hear soon about our individual MR releases if they are truly in the "carrier certification phase".

Just wanted to say I'm thankful this is finally coming out. You could have been like MS with WinME and dropped it right after releasing it. This may be a little behind the times, but it's better late than never. Also it seems some people didn't read into what it takes to get something of this magnitude out the door. The hold up is Sprint and Verizon, as you can tell by one being released before the other. It has to go through a testing phase. Ok, getting off my soapbox. Thanks again guys for finally(soon) bringing this out. :)

Does Palm have an explanation, or just more delays?
Posted by: Lee Gibson | June 01, 2007 at 10:59 PM
We are all witnesses of a very critical time in Palm's history. I'm not saying this just because of the 700p MR delay, its been years from now. I clearly remember that day in New York city when Palm presented the Treo 650. The very FIRST question from the audience was "What about Wi-Fi support?", and you Palm said "we are developing drivers to support our card (sic), soon they will be published...", incredibly it has to be Microsoft in the Treo700wx the one to support your OWN WiFi card!, then many have *implored* for a TXphone, or even new PDAs.

I wonder when PALM ACTUALLY, TRULY began working on this, so called, update? So disappointing to hear about the Verizon update...Why? is all I can ask. Aslo, since the 755p isn't that much different from the 700p, couldn't you just make slight modifications to that firmware and apply it? Or, will 755p user have similar problems with stability as 700p users are having? It is so frustrating to have poured a lot of money for a lemon of a device. Opening Blazer and other programs is taking longer now than ever before...Blackberry is looking mighty good right about now...
