700p MR Timing - Update Sprint MR is Available
Updated (June 4)
The 700p MR is available for Sprint users. To download to your Treo device visit: http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/treo700pupdate/sprint.html.
-----
The Treo 700p maintenance release (MR) is expected to be available on Monday (June 4th) for Sprint users via the palm.com website. We will post an update here on the blog with a link to the MR once it is live. We don't have a specific date for when the 700p MR will be available for Verizon Wireless users at this time.
Paul Loeffler - Palm, Inc.
so on monday you will tell us that it will be available on the next week right?
You guys said the week of the 28th of may.. not the week of the 28th of june!!!

Late...big surprise. I ran out and got a Motorola Q off ebay because the 700p was so unstable. It's been 6 months, and I hate to say it but you likely lost a long standing Palm user (bought the original Palm the day it came out, and had been hooked ever since). The Q's user interface stinks, but at least it's USEABLE, doesn't lock up or hang intermittently while doing something. Good luck with your FOLEO flop Palm - I've bought the last Palm product I ever will.

Disappointing news. Going from a firm release date to "we don't have a specific date" sounds pretty grim especially after waiting over a year for fixing problems that should not have existed in the first place. At least there are a lot of alternative new smartphones available!

Hey Paul,
Thank you for the update. I will check back on Monday.
Not everyone that reads this blog is a winer.
Palm Vx > M505 > M515 > Tungsten C > Treo 650 > Treo 700P > (Treo 800P)

I just don't understand why? What's wrong with palm, what's the difference for them to release next Monday or, as promised, this week? So many palm user have been waiting for that...but this time again..

I don't know why everybody is getting all excited anyway - it will not likely make a bit of difference with how it performs anyway.
I was walking outside the building the other day (perfectly good cell coverage) while surfing the internet. Pressed the menu button to go to a different page - RESET.
I think that is revamping the entire OS - not just a patch or MR bunch of crap.

Another disappointment...I wonder how many of my customers I would have left if I continually told them that I'll have what they need next week?? Then I tell them to look at the "cool" thing I'm also selling - but not yet...

I did the same thing two weeks ago. Got a Motorola Q off of eBay. Paid $250. Could have had the Q for $99 a couple of months ago when I decided to go with Palm and pay $399. I should have done more research. I went Palm since I started with it about 10 years ago with the Palm Pilot 1000 Pro. Have had five since.
Hope to make up the difference when I sell my 700p on eBay. Let's hope this doesn't bottom out the previously owned market.
The Q is pretty clunky from a user interface... but it works! People can hear me on BT and I can hear them... it doesn't freeze up... and it doesn't constantly search for a signal. I am now sorry I purchased the over $100 Palm BT. Now I have to carry two chargers.
I do not consider myself a "power user"... I consider myself just a regular ole user. I just need the thing to work!
I am so disappointed in Palm.

Paul,
Thank you for the information. I look forward to using my Treo 700p to its fullest extent. The hoops Palm has to jump through to satisfy wireless service providers are hard for the average consumer to understand. Thank you for having the patience to read and respond to the emails on this blog.
Anticipating great things to come...

This is unreal... You knowingly sell us a crappy product, release several new products, wait a year and lie about a MR release and in the same week you promise a MR you announce a new "innovation." Bye Bye Palm....

This was almost going to be the first time I said something mean about palm. I held myself back.
Wait, does this count?!

Thank you.

Oh how perfect.
Well folks, my one year is over on June 05, so if the MR isn't out by then I will be returning this "device" to Sprint for a refund. If the MR doesn't fix the problems I will also be returning this device. As what it is: defective.

This really sucks! I'm a Verizon 700p user and this is really really disappointing. I will be looking for a new device once my contract with Verizon is over!

If I had a quarter for every time you guys expected something, I'd be able to afford a different phone. See:
"At this time, we expect the software update to be available the week of May 28th."
What I'm curious about is this: You're Palm. *You* are the ones who release the MR...so why are you equivocating about "expecting" release dates. It's *your* software. It's *your* hardware. We're the ones who are supposed to be doing the expecting.
Is it possibly the carriers fault that things have been held up? Probably, but not for a year. And either way I can't quite care. Palm is the public face of this fiasco and, in the end, the buck has to stop somewhere. In my view, it stops with the manufacturer: Palm.
As for my phone, it works fine (this is my second 700p). It's a little slow at times, but I definitely got the hardware I paid for. Ironically, what's ruined my confidence in Palm is simply the number of broken promises I've seen. Combine that with the fact that this phone has been without an update for a year, and you've got yourself some serious customer service issues.
Those of you with working phones would be wise to remember this fiasco when it comes time to upgrade your device. What happens if your next Palm device doesn't work so well?

Great! every step of the way you guys release more and more information. First it was the MR will be ready Q1, then week of May the 28th. The latest is the MR is limited to one carrier, the rest can keep waiting impatiently since there's no ETA for the MR in other carriers.
When will you guys show seriousness? When will you guys show the Palm of old, the one that cared about its devices and more importantly its customers?

Enough is enough! Stop jerking us around. I'm tired of waiting and being your beta tester. Replace my 700p with the 755 and I'll start testing that one for you because in all likelihood it's full of bugs too.

WOW. This was really a waste of my time too. I checked back and back this Week. I need to have this fixed badly. I have had a Service case number with Palm and another with Sprint for 9 months. I called both customer service departments tonight. The Sprint Rep again told me, gee I do not have any probems with my Treo 700 P. And I am a tecnophile he says. Then Mohamad ( but I could call him Jim ) at Palm - he said he did not know when it would be out. But he was not in the US so he does not have a cell phone . But he was a nice guy.

Since both Palm and Verizon are dragging their feet - go to Verizon's website and email them with your frustration - The only reason Palm is taking the brunt of this is because they have a blog where we know we can channel our anger(as they rightfully should - not defending them... they released this poor product). But obviously Verizon should hold some responsibility too - I called and they said they had NEVER heard of any of these issues happening with the 700p (yeah right). So they need to hear from us too.

SO WHAT ABOUT ALLTEL AND THE REST OF THE "INSIGNFICANT" CARRIERS?
I hope carriers like Alltel see that they don't even rank enough to make the update list. If the products they sell aren't supported by their manufactures, then perhaps they will avoid the risk of loosing customers and instead loose substandard manufacture's products.
You should post updates for ALL carriers or NONE at all.

You've got to be kidding me. Palm's incompetence never ceases to amaze me.

For the love of god! Please give some sort of explanation instead of an Annie song "Tomorrow, tomorrow, it will be here tomorrow' the MR IS JUST A DAY AWAY!"

I'm very excited about the ROM update, after reading about the issues I realized it wasn't me or the software but my palm. BUT overall I don't think the issues are big enough to go to another platform, I have only had resets about once a week and one reset issue where I actually had to hard reset and restore from backup which worked awesome. Keep up the good work, PALM rocks.

The final straw. I'll never buy another Palm product.
