Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Timing Update for 700p MR:

» Palm 700p maintenance release planned next week from jkOnTheRun
Palm is expecting to roll out a software update for Palm 700p smartphones during the week of May 28th. Originally, the company planned a smaller update earlier in the year to address some Bluetooth issues, but one thing understandably leads to another ... [Read More]

Well, here we are Wednesday, May 30th and nothing yet? Anyone have any clue as to when this fix will happen?

As I'm sitting around on pins and needles waiting for this MR from Palm, it occurred to me that the vast majority of Treo users wouldn't have the faintest idea how to install one. Maybe I'm just jaded from being a sysadmin for so long, but the average user would've (and probably has) given up on this buggy, flaky device long ago.

And now that I think about it, why the hell should I be so anxious about getting an MR that I have to _pray_ will make my phone do what they promised me it would do OUT OF THE $#@%&! BOX--and be kept almost completely in the dark about right up until its release!?

Screw this noise. I've been a loyal Palm user ever since the USRobotics days. And y'know what else occurred to me? The legions and legions of BlackBerry users out there: maybe I should check _their_ forums, and see if any of their power users are sitting on pins and needles waiting for service releases that have no concrete release date. So I did. And y'know what? The overwhelming majority of their users love their BlackBerrys and they get better support and communication from RIM than we've ever gotten from Palm.

You hear that, Palm!?

At this point, after buying their product and then having them shrug in apathy when presented with its long list of defects, and releasing patches for other platforms AND A NEW GENERATION OF 7xx PHONES before even the first MR is released for the 700p--I've had it.

I've been patient, and I've been loyal, but this is just too much.

I will never buy another Palm again. My 700p is going up on eBay post-MR, and I'm buying a BlackBerry 8830e.

Bye bye, Palm.

Very annoyed 700p owner.

Hey, It's 5/30/07. Wednesday. 2 days into the "week of 5/28/07". I still haven't heard anything about how this MR for the 700p will be distributed, or when it will actually be released. Are they jerking us around for their own sick, perverted pleasure. Is this how they get their kicks, making a bunch of us dedicated owners of their product search the internet endlessly in hopes for a fix for a product that has had problems from the get-go, while releasing new products, expecting us to give up on the 700p and spend ungodly amounts of money for a product that has the same architecture, just prettier & gets an update even though it has only just been released? If this MR doesn't do everything and more that has been promised, I will never buy another palm product again. Let's see how they like them apples! And this I will say for sure: I refuse to buy another Palm phone (or any other phone for that matter) w/o a2dp inherent in the OS. They better go make a deal with SAG or something...

You people who are pleading and begging for updates from Mr. Sinclair: What is the matter with you!?

Speak with your wallets, as I plan to do! Why the hell should we have to BEG for Palm to fix a device that they DUPED us into paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars for by saying "Oh, we fixed it, we fixed it"--and then doing a Lucy-with-the-football switcheroo!?

If you want to stay with the platform--if you love it so much--roundly DEMAND that they make it perform like they promised that they would!

Or, do like I'm doing, and ditch the damn thing--Abandon Palm like they've obviously abandoned you.

Ryan

Will this bluetooth fix/update allow users to activate voice dialing via a bluetooth ear piece?

pdateacher

I have a couple of comments. First, unfortunately, I think Palm has set themselves up for the feelings of abandonment that Palm users are feeling because when Jeff and Donna ran the company the response was quick and they recognized the value of the community. They also needed the community because they were small. Now Palm users continue to expect this response, even though I have never known Microsoft, Blackberry, or any of their OEMS to give any better service or quality of product.
Also, I deal with very similar issues with Windows Mobile users on a daily basis and if you go to their blogs you will find users just as frustrated as we are.
Finally, in response to those people who are making figures up to fit their needs, it was 59% of PC's and laptops sold with Windows XP media in 2005, according to Microsoft themselves, and the number has dropped significantly in 2006 and 2007.
I realize this is a frustrating time for everyone but the grass is not greener anywhere. Blackberrys work as well as they do because most users only use them for calls and emails. Windows Mobile users only use 22% of the capabilities of their handhelds, while Palm users use 47%. It stands to reason that Palm users will discover more issues because they can and are doing more with the Palm OS.
I hope the update comes quickly because I am tired of the issues but I use all four OS, Windows, Blackberry, Symbian, and Palm on a daily basis and I will still keep using Palm as my personal choice.

Leathernuts

C'mon people!! Do you really think were gonna get it? The foleo is another joke as well. I bet Palm just sits back and laughs at all our posts. Why not? They already got our money.

Ken

Will the Folio work as well with the 700p as my U-Connect does?????

Tom

I can't believe that Palm would say there would be a fix the week of the 28th and not think people would have the expectation of May 28th. These people should be forced to use a 700p with a bluetooth headset for a month as punishment. Palm company either has really stupid PR people or they really don't care about this product and can't wait to sell something new. This is my first Palm device and I would never buy another one. When my cell contract is up, I will look for anything else. The bluetooth is junk. These issues are not little bugs, but major functions problems. Fix or not, I will never own another Palm product.

greg

I don't know about anyone else - but my calendar says its the 30th... and I figured the NEXT post I'd see (after the 28th) would be the 700p update - NOT another NEW product, leaving the 700p owners to sit and wonder when it's our turn to get what was promised...

Choda Boy

OK, with each passing day of no MR to fix the BT issues with my Treo 700p, WHICH BT PHONE should I purchase to use with the new Foleo???

itdirguy

As an IT director the 700P put egg on my face. I did some brief testing before I sent it out to the sales force, my mistake. Almost without exception they all hate it, bluetooth, dropped calls and random reboots. I mean it has promise, with Exchange integration it has all the features we need except maybe GPS naviation built in but the bugs are a killer. I am tired of them whining when all I have for an answer is that Palm is supposed to fix some of the issues, at some point. Even when and if the MR is released when will Sprint release it, if at all. They have moved on the next and greatest thing. I'm sure it will be painfull to roll out the MR to the sales force. This has not been a fun aspect of my job.

Scott Bolasevich

please tell me ive missed something and im not just reliving the horror of palm based products with yet again another delay of the palm 700p update.. my god...please save everyone who has bought this pile of trash and turn it into something useful.

PC

UM, Thursday 5/31 and still no indication of the MR??? Thanks for the "great" support of a very sub-standard device. NOT!!!

Andrew

It's May 31 and still waiting with bated breath for the MR. I would have hoped that Palm would have invested more time into releasing the MR for the 700P than investing time into the Foleo.

b

Paul,

It's thursday - MR for the 700p? Did we forget to set a reminder on our calendar?

sam

New units coming out everywhere and i dont see an update.. what a joke... the 755 is perfectly stable (according to reports). That means they has a stable os they have been working with for a long time. after all it doesnt take 1 day to design test and market a new unit. AND WE STILL DONT HAVE AN UPDATE!?!?!

SAM

The problem here is simple. Everyone here hates MS so much they are willing to put up with this robbery. Palm purposely put the wm2005 os on a cpu that cannot handle the load to make their units look good and fast. everyone knows that windows os's use services and must load at start up. how can you put a robust os on a crappy cpu? nice work palm, but most that are not following you blindly see what's going on.

Palm loyalist are like republicans, they just vote for a republican, because he is a republican. they don't hear a word the man is say but know he's a republican.

Like palm units.. hey a new palm, let's get it!! oooooooooh foleo.. more like palm is foldeo'ing.. a completed outdated unit introduced in 2007 .. this is a unit that should have been introduced in 1996

SAM

Ryan,

I bet you're one opf those people that complain about the windows issues right?

it stands to reason if more people have the os will have issues right?

Guess what, ms does not wait over 1 year to give you a patch for any issues on their os.

the windows mobe device is a much better unit hands down. only issue is the os runs slow due to the cpu. gee i wonder who designed the hardware.. i wonder if it was palm? uh huh.

scott bolasevich

another sad day as yet the release is still not out... my god how pathetic is this company??? i know you guys make B.S products with NO SUPPORT but im sure you will be out of business soon with this kind of customer service.. you know your a bad business when you can't do ANYTHING right

DJT

What is it about "the week of the 28th" that folks are not understanding? The week isn't over yet. :)

Ken

I wonder if the BT will work on the folio? BTW I called my provider last night *611 and my 700p locked up! Piece of junk!

james

i agree wholeheartedly with the above posts.

it's clear that 700p owners are at the bottom of your priority pail, Paul, but you needn't rub our faces in it by so marginalizing our presence.

in regards to the "release date," i don't understand the thinking behind announcing a release "the week of may 28th, when we all know you are going to take your sweet time and give it to us on June 2nd, if EVER. why not just set a REAL deadline and hold true to it?

we've all been waiting as long as a YEAR for this, and a few days matters far less than actually feeling, for once, that the 700p community actually MATTERS and is shown some amount of consideration.

quite certainly, Paul, you will never read this. Nonetheless, I will be anxiously awaiting news of the patch, as well as news of your dismissal.

Preferably both.

waiting

Thursday May 31. why keep everyone waiting. Hey its been one year already, whats a few more days. Have had the 700 for a year with crappy BT reception for my earpiece. Works sometimes, doesnt work more times. So I dont use the BT headset anymore. I must say one year to fix bugs is really unacceptable.

Stretch2k

I'm so excited for this update. I can't wait for it to come out. I check this site everyday hoping Palm will release it. I hope their is a lot of new changes. I love my treo 700p, with this update and the new features it might have, I'll love it even more. My treo 700p works great as is, but hey, a major update, hell yeah.....
