Timing for the 700p maintenance release hasn't changed since we last posted to the blog (April 17th). At this time, we expect the software update to be available the week of May 28th. We will post an update if the timing moves.

Update:
We appreciate the frustration that has been shared and everyone's patience. I know we said we are working to deliver the 700p maintenance release (MR) the week of May 28th. We are still hoping to make the MR available for Sprint Treo 700p users tomorrow or early next week.
Unfortunately, the MR will not be available this week for Treo 700p Verizon Wireless users, but we expect it will be available soon.
Will post again tomorrow.
Does the maintenance release improve Versamail? I would love to be able to use my treo 700p for email which I can't today... except with gmail on java. Today, just launching Versamail once DESTROYS my treo's performance until I manually clean up the device with Filez.

To little to late. I bailed on Palm about 3 weeks ago. My new device BB 8800 and loving it! I'm an early adopter and my friends all look to me to get advice on gadgets, my past advice was wait on the 700p and the update, now I say forget Palm altogether and get a Blackberry.

I just ditched my Motorola Q and so far like the palm much better, some of the bugs i've heard about scare me though so it looks like I bought a 700p at just the right time. Bring on the update! Also, palm, please never ditch PalmOS , I royally dis-like windows mobile. :-)

I am not holding my breath on improvements with this MR. Palm only admitted lag issues with opening and closing databases of third party apps. Mine lags all the time even while in Palm Apps. Its especially fun when it lags while connected to voicemail forcing me to burn minutes.

It has been so long that I've had my palm 700p and been totally dissapointed with the OS lag and freezing up that happens with it, this will bring me much joy if indeed it happens.
But honestly, they've waited So long to release this, it really seems to me like palm has so few programmers and hardware people working on this issue. I feel really turned off to buying future palm hardware and it almost made me switch away from Verizon.

Devin, I almost moved away from vz due to the Q's issues , i bought a 700p instead, its better so far but i got it to crash by downloading one file in Blazer (Q's browser also crashes OS),,, hopefully this update will be solid.

Well, this will probably be my last Palm device EVER. I am VERY disappointed with the lack of communication, and the slow response to the community (this patch being a good example, the security hole being another). I guess it will be back to Blackberry for me

Looking forward to this update, I have had the Treo 600, 650 and now I have upgraded to the 700P. I really enjoy the ease of use with the OS, but the 700P does have more problems than the earlier two.
Thank you for the update, I am looking forward to the week to come!

A new patch, great! Is this like the one that fixed memory issues and allowed multiple calls, that has not worked on any of the 6 Treo's I've owned. Just when I'm ready to get rid of my 700p because I have to reboot it every hour or so when I text mssg info to a client. How about supporting your product, and as a bonus do it while the product is still in it's lifecycle. Still, I really do hope it works.

Does anyone know exactly when this update is going to arrive? The week of the 28th is not very helpful if you are traveling.

Will you also be updating Palm Desktop, at the same time, to work with Windows XP Media Center version? Your website says you "do not support" Windows Media Center versions. Why?
All of the retail stores, the last two years, had over 90% of their models for laptops and desktops with this version. Per year, 2005 and 2006, more Media Center PCs were sold than all Macs. Yet Macs can sync Treo 700p with their PC but I cannot.
Would not have bought the 700p if the box had said it did not sync with Windows Media Center version.

To the poster above me, a quick google search sent me to this info:

You should read through the thread, as it has lots of info about syncing on MCE. Give it a try.

Sooooooo...anyone hear or know anything about the MR? Could Palm have possibly made a typo and have it for the week of June 28th?

Any word to THE DATE or how the 700P fix will be distributed?
Posted by: SG | May 29, 2007 at 10:28 AM
Well Paul.....here it is May 29th and I'm waiting impatiently for the MR update for my 700p. I really hope this update turns my Treo into the device I thought I purchased a year ago. If not, I will certainly switch to the new Blackberry Curve as soon as it's available with Verizon. Thank goodness my car doesn't operate with the same level of efficiency as my Treo.......
Posted by: Frank | May 29, 2007 at 11:33 AM
Palm Desktop is in fact compatible with XP Media center.... because I use palm desktop, sync my palm 700p, and everything and my notebook came with xp media center 2005. Palm should try it sometime.

On a side-note, may 28th was my birthday, and I was hoping to see the 700p MR released yesterday, as a sort of birthday present to me from Palm, but yeah....guess they forgot my birthday. Heck, it isn't even up today. I've had my 700p for what will be 3 months on the 5th, and I always thought it funny how people had expensive phones and actually talked with them right up to their ears....until I got one. The bluetooth stack is just not stable....
Please.... give us an update, let us know exactly which day of the "week of the 28th" it will be.
Thank you Mr. Sinclair.....

680p gets a software update before the 700p MR? Boy that left a VERY sour taste in a lot of us 700p users' mouths... *sigh* I sure hope this update makes Bluetooth USABLE. My wife has stopped using her headset because it was just too unreliable! Very annoying.

I really used to love Palm devices. I was so jazzed about the 650 and the thought of the new stuff in the 700P that I went out and bought it immediately when it came out. What a mistake. I can't believe you couldn't even do something as simple as fix the problematic headset jack that plagued the 650.
Overall I might have considered upgrading from the 700P, if you hadn't decided to EOL it before you even put out the freaking Maintenance Release! We in the Army have something called the 'Warrior Ethos'. Part of it is "I will never leave a fallen comrade". I surely do feel abandoned by Palm.
I also do my best to live the Army Values. Sometimes that includes having the Integrity and Honor to admit a mistake. Something you folks apparently haven't heard of.
I'm deploying to Iraq early next year. While there I won't be able to use my 700p. When I get back, I'll be looking for another device. And it will be from a corporation that has a dedication to its customer base, one that includes communication and honesty. I've learned the hard way in watching and dealing with Microsoft that you do NOT deal with arrogant, dishonest companies, whatever cool gadget they're selling.

I just bought a 700p less than a month ago and need to know if this worthless bluetooth disabled item needs to be returned. Funny, they knew it didn't work and sold it as bluetooth capable to me.
Mr. Sinclair, you had many options in front of you and you chose poorly. You are responsible for this disaster. Be a leader and make this right.

so if the 755p is basically running on the same software and hardware as the 700p..will it also need an update. im asking because the bluetooth stinks with the 755p too. both my moto hf850 and jawbone...disconnect as soon as the screen times out. very frustrating!!!
Posted by: dustin | May 29, 2007 at 09:43 PM
Man...Palm isn't making this easy on loyal customers! Many of us 700p users (and our businesses) are crippled by SMS freeze-ups and calls going directly to voicemail. I upgraded from a Treo 650, thus have now spent thousands of dollars on Treo hardware, accessories, and software. So it's unreally frustrating that bugs of this severity could slide by for almost a year. I spent 7 years as a software consultant and certainly, some bugs are arcane and only prove out after the product has been in the field for awhile. But these bugs should have been turned up in level 1 testing, and addressed prior to release. Period. To add insult to injury, thousands of customers report that Verizon reps either a) cluelessly supply replacements that waste both parties' time and money, or b) play dumb and act like they've never heard of the issues. Please, respect us as consumers and release the MR promptly.

OK, here it is Wednesday, 5/30/07. Is this MR going to be out this week? I have been trying to be patient, and I think I am loosing the battle. I sure hope all of this waiting turns out to be worth it and the 700p becomes like a new device for me. Can someone give us an update as to when this MR will actually be released?
Posted by: Jerry | May 30, 2007 at 05:38 AM
Yeah, right? Release a patch for a newer product before the junk that was released over a year ago? You're expecting Palm to pay attention? Better yet, Palm's expecting us to pony up hard-earned bucks for Yet Another Device that probably won't work properly out of the box (the Foleo) when we can't even get technology that's been around since, oh, 2000 to work correctly.
Uh huh. I've had a long line of Palm junk, back to the original Pilot in 96. Before that, a Newton. Went thru the teething problems with the VII, the 705, the early treos...all the while listening to their PR spin that they are working on fixes.
Right. The sad fact is, they don't KNOW how to fix this junk. They hope by constantly churning the available device landscape, they won't have to.
It's snake oil, people; just as deceptive as the carnival barkers of old sucking you in to the big tent see the two-headed dog or missing link bearded lady.
A working MR for the broken-as-released 700P this week? Uh huh. They're hoping you're blinded by the Foleo release to forget about the constant resets, going-off-into-lala-land hangs, BT failure, bugs in versamail, blazer incompatibilities, non-support for Win MC, constant self-rebooting, and less than stellar battery life.
There are better devices out there that work. And Palm's constantly haemoraging market share is proof of their irrelevance to the future of converged devices.

Anyone see any more info on this release? I really hope that it fixes all of the major bugs such as; rebooting at random, slow response, bad bluetooth implementation, sms delays, locking up at random, etc.
Had Palm addressed some of these issues sooner, I would've considered the 755p as it looks pretty sweet. Unfortunately, after spending a year fighting with Verizon and looking for Palm fixes, my future Palm purchases are on hold indefinitely.
When this MR hits the street, I'll give it 1 chance to be right and fix the problems. If it fails to deliver, or worse, if it bricks my 700p (my last Verizon MR on a 650p, bricked it), I'm going with the Blackberry 8830e.

I really hope this works. I have been using palm for many years. This bluetooth issue has been tempting me to pitch the thing out the car window! I spoke to my provider several times and they said to go to my car dealer and have the U-Connect tested as they had no reports of any problems. What a waste of time. U-Connect works with everything BUT my 700p!
Last chance Palm!
