Palm Desktop On Windows Vista

We have seen several people inquiring about support for Palm Desktop on Windows Vista:
http://blog.palm.com/palm/2007/04/editors_note_bl.html#comment-68399558.

I wanted to let everyone know that we are working on a beta release of the new Windows Vista-compatible Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager software - time frame for the release is this summer. I will make sure to let everyone know when the software is available.

Also, here is a link with info on Windows Vista for Palm's Palm OS and Windows Mobile devices:

Like a few of my device drivers, Palm's Quick Install desktop application isn't quite ready for Windows Vista just yet. The company is working on it with hopes of a summer release, says Product Manager David Sloan on the relatively new company blog. Br... [Read More]

I can't believe you guys are taking so long to make a Vista compatible Palm Desktop. I mean, you knew it was coming years ago, you had the data to make a compatible version since a while ago and the Vista was released on january 30 of this year, but its may and we still dont have a vista compatible version. You guys sure know how to send your company into oblivion. If you keep up like this you all will be out of a job. Now you say its going to be out in "summer". I sure don't get it!

Please consider 64bit support. All that needs to be revised is the USB driver, how hard is that?

I also am echoing other comments - but will this also support 64bit Vista?

A lot of new machines being purchased today are in this configuration.

More information please!

Vista x64 is the future, get with it already!

This is horrible! I just purchased a 755p and I had no idea it wasn't compatible with XP 64 bit. Now what am I suppose to do? No way to install the software even in compatibility mode arghhhh!

Been doing upgrades ever since 1983. Anyone remember TRSDos 1.0. VISTA's just a small bump in the road. Anyway, biggest complaint I have for anything PALM is the limitation of 15 categories max. for the contacts. Why, why, why would you do this? By the time I set up the categories for my business, personal, medical and financial contacts they're all gone. None left for hobbies etc. PLEASE re-think this in future releases or I may once again be sent to the "darkside" and have to get a Windows Mobile device.

p.s. Vista x64 is the future....you are so right!!!

Palm Desk Top does not support Windows Media Center which is more common than Vista. When will Palm Desk Top be updated to work with this XP version?

Vista has many versions. Which one(s) exactly will your new Desk Top support? Home, Home Premium, Business Basic, Business Premium, Ultimate? It will impact which software I buy on my PC this week - help!

Noticed a comment from a 755p user not being able to install apps to his hand held in vista 64, I have wrote a program PalmVista Simple installer that is Vista 32 and Vista 64 compatible. It will allow you to install apps to the hand held or sd card.

Sorry, couldn't wait for Palm.

I'm running a x64 system and could really care less whether I have a Windows Mobile or a Palm, as long as my use of it is seemless.

I grabbed a Dopod(O2 out west) today, and am recommending to my friends and coworkers that they do the same.

Our servers and workstations are all running XP x64, and you at Palm, have managed to lose yet another couple of dozen supporters in my social/professional circles in only this last few months.
I can't imagine how many you'll continue to lose over the next few and by the end of the year.
Vista and x64 is obviously where computing is heading for the next half dozen years(and has been for over a year now).
Get with the times and put out support for all 64bit OS before you find yourselves out of work.

Good luck guys, you'll need it!

Solved it !
Whilst vista will not install my treo 680 over the cable it is quite happy to let me use Bluetooth {which i prefer anyhow}
anyone having problems, set up a bluetooth partnership and tell hotsync to use com 4

OK Palm, it is now officially the summer as it is the longest day of the year in 3 days. So where is the Vista 64 compatible desktop that we were promised would be ready in the summer? The only thing that is keeping me hanging on is that the new HTC phone I bought out of frustration from the wait does not hold a candle to the Palm devices.

Here is another one, requesting support for x64. In the meanwhile I can make do with an older machine running 32bit XP, but *still* not having a Vista64 compatible USB driver is ridiculous. You are not only losing a faithful customer here but potentially many more, since quite a number of people first refer to me when purchasing new gadgets. I am increasingly finding it hard to recommend Palm products.

It’s Jun 26th and its stinking hot outside, it must be summer but where is the Vista compatible Palm Desktop. I’m only running the lowly Vista 32 but I did managed to get the version 4.1.4e install on Vista after uninstall and re-install Vista a few times 2 weeks ago and Palm Desktop seems to work OK. To my surprise when I turn off User Account Control, all the current data is missing on the Palm Desktop. I was more shock when I discovered that my daily backup was not able to backup Palm’s current data because it’s hidden under Compatibility Files tab. Do you gentlemen at Palm research actually use Palm with Vista? I had been using Palm since I bought a Palm Pilot in 1997, now my Treo 650 is close to 2 years old and it about time to get a new Treo. I buy a new Palm/Treo every 2 years in the last 10 years. Don’t force me to switch to RIM or I never come back. Please fix your Palm Desktop, how hard can it be?

Hello everyone,

i have a question:

Support the comming Beta-Release of Palm Desktop Conduits developed with CDK (Conduit Development Kit) under Windows Vista?

I just received a new laptop running Vista, and I sure miss being able seamlessly to install programs, back up, and sync my Palm TX. What's the current timeline for a truly Vista-compatible desktop/install tool?

The limitation of 15 categories in the To-do list is a *major* drawback of the software. It appears especially out-of-touch amongst today's flexible applications on the market.
Please, please, in any future release could this restriction be removed? Or even a workaround that would make the issue redundant... e.g. If To-do tasks could have sub-tasks attached to them this would turn them into 'projects'(tasks) with associated 'project actions'(sub-tasks). The 'projects' may then fulfill the need of the present "Categories" feature.
Some nice features appear in Projects, Natara's Bonsai, and Handy Shopper.

Where is this Palm Desktop / Quick Install / Hotsync Manager that works with Vista Ultimate x64? I just got a Treo 755P and can't install anything on it. I don't want to have to buy a card reader for my PC, a SD card or a bluetooth adapter.

When is this 64-bit software supposed to be released?

That HTC Mogul / 6800 is looking real nice right now.

Ouch. My wife has an antique M105 that she loves. I upgraded her computer to an HP Vista box and bought a serial-to-USB cable to hook up the HotSync cradle. After a frustrating hour of not getting things working, I figured that maybe five years' use was as much as I could expect, and I bit the bullet and bought her a TX.

Now I read that that won't work either (at least for software installation) and that this problem has been known for six months. I haven't opened the TX yet; I think I'll return it and we'll both (I have a Treo 650) use my XP box for syncing.

I was wondering... you were refering to THIS summer when you said you would release a Vista Compatible Palm Desktop or you were talking about NEXT year? because it feels like summer outside!!

I can't imagine a how a company like Palm expects its OS to remain viable in the PDA market when the majority of its Vista users can't have full functionality. Not even a single workaround...

I had to erase my Palm completely, and now have no way to upload my programs now that I only have Vista as my OS. I can't even make sense out of it.

I have a serious issue. My wife is in grad school to become a physician's assistant. She bought a palm device a few months ago for there is a program ( epocrates ) that is absolutly pivitol to her success. we bought this handheld device less than 6 months ago. We purchased a new computer 2 months ago that uses Vista as an OS.... the damn palm is useless. She needs a PDA and we trusted Palm as a reputable brand....I also have a palm(life drive) that is a paper weight now that we are using vista. Apparently Palm is not concerned 1 bit about public immage, or if their consumers are happy or not. I have been a loyal palm customer since my first purchase of the Vx slim in 2001, I am extremely happy with this company, and i do not want to explore other options, however our technology needs to be up to date.

Thank You

Jeff Hoekstra

I am just your average guy trying to make a living and use my PC and Palm Tungsten to keep my work life organized. Unfortunately, my boss purchased me a beautiful new laptop with the POS "Vista" installed on it. My Palm problems have forced me to seek out answers in forums such as this. I appreciate the advice I am getting from all of you. Please keep it up. However, I am close to the breaking point and getting irritable with the BS from Palm, Microsoft and Toshiba all feeding me their BS of wait & see.
I am now looking for a non-Palm PDA that actually works with my work Vista and my Mac at home. Any advice is appreciated.

Got an email from Palm today about upgrading discounts and have been thinking about a move.
Got a Vista laptop last week so thought I would spend the evening getting the Vista Palm Desktop and syncing my TE2 in preparation for the shiny new 680 I was going to order tomorrow. Having googled the issue I feel pretty disappointed. I love my Palm but I think the affair may be over.
I'll have a smartphone by month end, whether it's a Palm or not is up to you.

Just another vote for x64 support. That includes Windows XP x64 -- not just Vista x64.

When do we get Vista x64 USB drivers?
