it is nice to know that our joys / concerns / frustrations (about the 700p) are being heard. it felt at times that our comments were going unnoticed. i tried sending this from my treo twice but it crashed each time (go figure :( ). Sure hope the new update will fix most of the problems! :(

Its great to see Palm moving with the times, been a loyal Palm user for many years. I also await this announcement, hopefully a good one, many un-happy folks. I had my share of re-sets & problems, but my 700p is working well for me. Better late than never, I guess. Make everyone happy Palm....

Dear Palm,

Here's a little more substantive information concerning 700P users and the issues they are having with the 700P:

I've willingly and gleefully plunked down cash to upgrade my Palm devices an average of once a year since 1997 and every other year for my wife. I thought every one of them from the Pilot to the 650 were on an incremental improvement path. Having been a Palm evangelist for years, I am very disappointed in the 700p. I am embarrassed to bring it out in public because it takes several seconds to open my calendar or get to a contact. My wife is still confounded as to why her 'upgrade' from the 650 takes longer to perform routine tasks and does less (sporadic Bluetooth) than her old device.

The 700p should have been fixed months ago.
The 700p has disillusioned your 'power' base of customers.
The 700p has failed to keep the Palm momentum going.

How is Palm going to rectify this serious issue?

Add me to the 700P list. I can't believe how unstable the Bluetooth is. Another issue I have is the EAS update. I read a huge number of posts with people having the exact same issue where the push DOES NOT WORK. It works once after reseting, then keeps popping up a message manually sync. I sent a message to Palm support to ask if this was being investigated and received no reply, but they were kind enough to send a satisfaction questionaire. Amazing.

First would it be so hard to have a headset jack that 1)worked for any length of time rather than 2-3 weeks of average to heavy use? 2) that was somewhere OTHER than the bottom of the unit? 3)was 3.5 rather than 2.5?

Next would it be so hard to have a rubber "door" to cover the SD card slot?

As to the desktop: why arent hoildays included? Why do I have to buy a 3rd parties software that does this? Why cant I snooze an alarm longer than the default? Why cant I reschedule an appointment from the alarm?

PLEASE add BT 2.0.

In the phone app, I used to have a Kyocera 6135 and a 7135 and when I would make a call to someone and it was an unsuccessful call I could navigate to that persons other contacts and call one of their different numbers. Can you please add that functionality to the phone app?

I know Im probably alone on this but Im dying to be able to control ANY of the settings for my handheld via the desktop program. I think we should be able to set our prefrences from the desktop and they sync to the handheld.

I like the fact that all of the current Treo accessories havent changed please keep it that way. IE I dont want to keep having to buy new chargers, sync cables etc.

Last but not least... where and when is the 700P update going to happen?

Great idea but enough of the fanfare already. Release real fixes for the 700p before you end of life the product in two weeks. Palm has treated the Palm OS user community like red headed stepchildren. I won't be an early adopter ever again for Palm.

Rich

Palm, add me to those who implore you to develop more PDAs. I, too, have owned multiple Palm OS devices through the years (at least 6 or 7). I've had my Tungsten C for several years now and would really, really like to buy another PDA. We may be stuck with the convergence of cell phone and PDA, but I hope not. I truly think there is a robust market for a good PDA with WiFi. While the supposed UMPC may fit the bill, but the elegance of size and utility of a classic PDA is -- well -- classic.

I have a 700P. I got it for $50 as a warranty trade after my 5th Treo 650 malfunctioned. The $50 was WAY too much to pay for this barely-functioning paperweight of a 'phone'. FIX THE DAMNED THING ALREADY!! The bluetooth doesn't work, it takes up to a minute to change from the web browser to the phone, it locks up during and after phone calls, it decides the battery is dead and shuts off in the middle of phone calls even though there's plenty of battery power (checked the battery with a volt meter), and the tech support chimps in your employ have not been trained to do anything other than tell people to erase the data from their phones.
I'm happy to say that I cost Palm a possible $17 million dollar contract with the bank I work for; they purchased 40,000 Blackberry devices instead after I had the opportunity to show them the problems with my phone and after we called tech support on speaker phone so everyone could hear the ineptitude of the support staff.
In short, I am not a happy Palm customer and will never buy another one of these pieces of garbage again, nor will my friends, co-workers, or family.

I was wondering, since this is a blog, does anyone at Palm care to do a write up on what happened with Palm OS 6/Cobalt? As a long time fan of Palm, I had been eagerly wating for Cobalt since it looked like a much improved OS with the Palm OS feel. I was even looking forward to trying my hand at programming for the new OS. I was never able to find any information as to why it was dropped (not even an official one that censored sensitive information).

I am like many owners here who have been with palm since the early days. The Palm III was my first and I was hooked. I upgraded the moment every new device was out all the way until the 700p. I am very put off with the way this device works. I will also NEVER be first in line again to upgrade.
Upgrade or not the frustrations I have had with this device and the irresponsibility with which we in the 700p community have been treated have left me feeling that my money is better saved, or spent on a device that delivers as promised.

Palm, I'm glad to hear that you are finally responding to the issues your loyal 700p users have been voicing for almost a year now. Still, I am very disappointed in how Palm has treated it's customers here and am personally considering other options as a result. Options which I have talked to customers that are not only happy with the product when they first purchased it, but are still not only happy with their product but are also happy with the support behind it.

I hope you have something very impressive up your sleeve for the 700p users or you will loose the support of many loyal users. Remember, it's easier to gain loyal customer then to re-gain them!

Mike

I think Palm should just post a date
or just say they are making an update or not and not have us wait around.

PS. I'm surprised no one is talking a class action law suit yet.

Mike

I like the treo 700p It has a nice size a bit big but not bad the lag is very annoying and the bluetooth issues are frustrating as you don't know if the headset is connected or not. So i would like to see an update for the bluetooth at least and soon.

Roger

I've been a PalmOS user since the original Palm 1000, including V, Vx, Clie N760C, Tungsten C, and now a 700p. All except for the 700p worked well and were generally trouble free. As for the 700p, if I soft reset it in the morning and at night, occasionally restore applications that mysteriously get corrupted, it is "usable". Of course the 700p should be much more than "usable"! While I have an investment in PalmOS software, I'm certainly going to consider going to the competition if the issues that the 700p has are not fixed soon.

PALM OWES IT'S 700P USERS A HUGE APOLOGY, 700P UPDATER, and OS UPGRADABILITY -- ALL FREE OF CHARGE!!! IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!

I just looked at SMARTPHONE COMPARISON CHART
http://www.palm.com/us/products/compare/

Treo 700p
Palm OS
5.4
(Garnet)

Treo 680
Palm OS
5.4.9

If Palm OS 5.4.9 is in any way better than Palm OS 5.4, Palm should offer all its 700P customers Palm OS 5.4.9 UPGRADE -- ALL FREE OF CHARGE!!! And I mean as a FREE DOWNLOAD or even a CD, with all the LATEST VERSIONS of EVERY BUNDLED SOFTWARE that came with the original 700p. THAT would only begin to approximate a LONG OVERDUE APOLOGY from Palm to its LOYAL CUSTOMERS, who have spent COUNTLESS HOURS playing detective with their 700P devices, which were HALF BAKED, at best!!!

If and when all those who had 700P and switched to iPhone start letting Palm know that they left Treo's for iPhone, then Palm will FINALLY understand how upset their 700p Customers are...

Can you hear me now, Palm?!

Like so many others, I am excited to see an official Palm Blog. I am hoping this will help me learn about a lot of the behind the scenes things that will help show the 'human' side of Palm. Things that other sites just couldn't do properly.

BTW... you missed listing the Premier Canadian Palm Blog -- Canuck-PDA -- (http://canuck-pda.ca/) and YES, I am biased! GRIN!

Hi everyone! I'm so glad to see this official palm blog site. I have been a palm user since 2004 and I have been hooked ever since. :) I would like invite you to visit our website: www.mapalad.org. I currently head the Philippine Palm Users Group. It would be a privilege for MaPalad to be included in the list of palm forums on this site. :)

What I still don´t get is why Palm denies the possibility of creating a PDA, with PDA´s look and feel AND cell phone capabilities. Not a smartphone, that looks like a telephone, with keypad and all, but a PDA, just with a large screen that works as a cell phone.
Please consider it. It´s an uncharted market, but I´m certain it exists.
Don´t be the last one to realize it!

I've been a longtime Palm user, too: III, Vx, Tungsten, T3. I waited for the 700p before getting my first Treo. It has been an amazingly frustrating experience! I just wanted to add another voice to the calls for an upgrade ... it's "next "week" and I see nothing!

Cyberhag

I've had several Palm devices over the years and depend on it heavily for meeting my appointments and deadlines. My most recent upgrade from and M505 to a T|X has me a bit unimpressed and disappointed. I have been accustomed to "snoozing" an alert/reminder to re-remind me in intervals of my choice, depending on where I am at the time. This function has been drastically minimized in the T|X, yet I can do hundreds of other things that are nice, but not nearly as important. This has been very frustrating. I have been desperately looking for software that would add this functionality, with no luck. Palm, PLEASE restore this function or offer software for it! Thanks!

I would love to see an new PDA. I dont want a smartphone, big and bulky and small screen. I also prefer to keep certain data seperate from my phone. When will Palm have a new PDA out?

Chris Battle

Until Palm does something about the non-funtional Palm Desktop for Mac Tiger, I would never buy a new Palm device, seeing how I can't even sync my aging Visor Edge thanks to the last several "updates". Why abandon a legion of loyal users?

Palm has steered it's former customers directly to the iPhone. (My intended upgrade once it's open to 3rd party apps)
