Hello world! Introducing the Palm Blog!

Before I could even wrestle with questions like "What will Palm's first blog post be about" or "Should I be witty? Reserved? -- the bigger question was "Would there be a Palm blog at all?" Well, at least one of these questions has been answered: Palm is blogging and this is our first post.

So what exactly will Palm blog about and who will be contributing to it? We're going to be flexible and broad on topics because we have a lot of stuff to talk about. The "who" is just about anyone at Palm, from interns to execs. Some days our posts will be educational about our products and other days thought-provoking about our vision and the ever-changing market dynamics. How about even generating a few laughs and who knows maybe some "spirited" conversations - we're game for that. We might even provide a peek behind the Palm curtain. And finally, what self-serving company blog (thanks, Yahoo) would be complete without some insight into the company's employees and culture? Over time, all of the above will be covered.

Please feel free to share your thoughts with us (comments are welcome) because we certainly plan to share our thoughts with you.

If you are feeling daring enough, here is the RSS feed to subscribe to and check us out on a regular basis: http://blog.palm.com.

Happy blogging,

Paul Loeffler

Paul and Palm thanks for starting this blog. I'm looking forward to adding this to my rss reader and favorites so I can get a glimpse inside Palm. What a great idea!! It's pretty clear Palm's future is as bright as the orange logo. Thanks again for giving us an inside look at our favorite mobile computing company.

Congrats and good luck with the blog. Should be interesting to read the commentary here.

Welcome Palm! Great job Paul. I am very happy to see you onboard and glad to see companies "get" the internet.

Thanks for shairing with us. I look forward to news on upcoming PDA's! Such as a TX-2 hint hint.

This looks like a nice idea. Looking forward to hearing from you folks about the future of my favorite OS.

It will be great to have another information source for Palm info. I'm hoping this will become a more community-based venue that offers insight into the plans and products from the company we so adamently support.

I do have to ask though... how's the 700p ROM update coming?

Is this effort going to be as blandly vanilla as your mass emails?

Where's my 700p ROM update? I've now on my 4th 700p and am so ready to ditch Palm. I've held on for this long only because of a promised ROM update in Q1 2007. Where is it?

This should be interesting. An interactive forum connecting palm directly with the community. Let the fireworks begin....

Congrats on having an official Palm blog! Looking forward to reading about a lot of Palm stuff!

Kudos to Palm for giving more of a human interaction for the Palm community!

With the recent news of a Linux OS, this can only be seen as a great positive step. I am getting excited about the future!

Please keep the lines of communication open! Thanks for this blog!

OMG! Palm has an official blog now?? Wow. I really hope you guys read all the commentary here. We are dedicated Palm OS users and have input. Please take our comments to heart in your products. Please use this blog to your advantage. I only say this because of the disconnect I've seen in the past between Palm and its users. It looks like you guys have worked hard to reseal that commitment and I hope it sticks :).

Will fans of Palm be able to reach the ear of the top management inside Palm?

First of all, thank you for including Bluetooth in the Treo
and thank you for bringing the price down!

Are the people inside Palm aware that some fans want Palm to add wi-fi in the Treo (even though it would drain the battery)?

Lastly, why is it not possible to come up with a luxury Treo priced very high (e.g. $700 or $800), that fulfills the wish list of the most demanding consumer?

Even if only small quantities are sold, that model will give Treo a good image.

Hello Palm and Palm! Welcome to the blog world. I think this is a great idea! Been waiting for Palm to start up a blog. Looking forward to hear more from Palm!

Congrats on the new blog.

1. You're going to have a lot of fires to put out and bridges to rebuild among the Palm community. Lots of tension has been brewing, so expect some venting. Perhaps that's why comments must be approved by the author ;)

2. Will you be the only commentator, or will others join you?

3. I love Palm

This is good. Far so good for Palm and Palm-user both.

I'll be watching this blog.....

This is a welcome addition to the Palm community. With the recent announcement of the Linux Palm OS, and the upcoming one from hawkins concerning the "third business", I'm beginning to feel like I'll be "stuck" with Palm for a little while longer. Could these be the signs of an Apple or Nintendo style comeback for Palm? Let it be so! It's becoming hard to see the world clearly through all those windows...

.....welcome to the neighborhood boys and girl - let take this thing to the next level...

Great!! I have been a Palm fan for years, I hope to see info on the Hawkins secret project soon! I look forward to reading this blog every day.

Well I hope this isn't just a publicity stunt and that you really intend to listen to the comments from your readers. You can bet some (or many) are going to be very negative given how quiet Palm has been on quality issues. I hope the majority of the posts are about products, not about life at Palm. I don't care about life at Palm. I care about getting good products and timely fixes when they are necessary.

Two quick things or 3.

1. Is the lag fixed on the 755p
(I probably will buy one)
2. Will it be fixed for the 700p. with the rom update.

3. Will our 700p's and 755p's be able to install the new linux os when release? Please give us a break on the new OS.
4. Finally give us a really goood discount for the owners of the 700p's towards the purchase of the 755p or the 800-900 series. Thank you!

Welcome to the internet Palm! I'm glad to see a blog going. I was hoping to see one.

Good luck and I'm looking forward to seeing some blog posts.

(seems like my previous comment disappeared so if this is a dup, delete)

Wow, a Palm blog. This is great. Thank you Palm.
I am a long term Palm user (since Palm IIIx) and I look forward to each new hardware release. I am very excited to hear about the new Linux based Palm OS and look forward to seeing it on new devices. Actually, I can't wait.

i have a treo 650 with no problems with the included software, resets/hard resets are a direct function of 3rd party software, at least to my experience.
when will we have a better browser for the 650?

Yes, please, where is the 700p update. I'm also on my 4th 700p. Tech support is absolutely useless as they don't seem to know of ANY known issues even though Steve Sinclair admitted they were there in his response to us TreoCentral folks. I've been with this phone for almost a year now and had to deal with what barely passes as subpar bluetooth (resetting the phone on incoming calls 1/3 the time, using a BT headset on Palm's official compatibility list).

I can't believe this is a $650 phone and we have nothing to show for it. At this rate, either a free update to this recently announced linux OS is in order for the 700p users out there, or a free upgrade to the 755p. Ed Colligan said it himself to the press that the Linux OS would allow Palm to build a single hardware platform for both Windows Mobile and the Palm Linux OS. Well, why not put it on the first phone that's part of that shared single platform....the 700p?

Paul -

Congratulations on getting this blog up and running. I greatly look forward to seeing how this can help publicly open and strengthen the communication between Palm and their loyal users.

Thank you and Good luck!
