Editor’s Note – Blog Comments
A blog post on comments is probably not what some of you were expecting here, but I thought it would be a good thing to let you know that we are reading your comments on the Palm blog itself and in other places too (e.g. forums and posts on other blogs). Several people have brought up topics they would like us to talk about from ChatterEmail and WiFi to "What features/functionality would you like to see in the next Palm or WinMo OS?" They haven't fallen on deaf ears, and thank you for sharing them. We will do our best to talk about as many of the submissions as possible and we are responding with our thoughts too. Also, I thought everyone would like to know that we try to get your comments live within a few hours, but sometimes it does take longer than we would like (e.g. overnight and during the weekend or when I have a nasty cold).
Other comment related things:
-Some people have raised the issue that their comments have been attributed incorrectly to someone else: http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=141806. It's a simple misunderstanding - names of commenters are included at the bottom of the comment submitted, not at the top. Taking this into account, if you are still finding that your comments are attributed incorrectly to someone else, yikes...let me know and we will take care of it.
-Also, here is a link to the Palm blog comment policy: http://blog.palm.com/palm/2007/04/palm_blog_comme_1.html
Appreciate everyone taking the time to share your thoughts,
Paul Loeffler
When will we be able to hear about future palm products????
I think I'm like most customers; we feel like Cub fans we love our team and want to stand by them but we really did some motivation.
Bring on the Treo 900p and some UMPCs or atleast a super PDA LOL ;) BD.

I don't care about new Treos or T/X repo. Where is the Palm Desktop that is Vista compliant. This is ridiculous. Its not like Vista snuck up on everyone. Come on Palm!

I wanted to chime in with several others in wanting a Palm with a large screen. I also want Wi-Fi 802.11g/n with latest WPA-2 support, BT 2.0+EDR, and GSM/GPRS cellular, SDHD, voice recorder, and virtual keyboard. I have tried Treos and don't like the small screen. I have had a Palm since the Pilot Pro and currently on the tenth model with my fourth Palm model with a large screen currently a very stable LifeDrive.

Strange behavior from the palm synch under Vista. It will work for a week at a time, then appear to be working but not actually be synching data to/from the core palm aps (calendar, contacts, etc.). No error messages. The only fix I've found is to uninstall and reinstall the whole palm desktop. Looking forward to the beta to get through all this...also, any fixes to the above problem...

Since you mention it, it is odd that you have the separator separating the commentor's name and their comment instead of separating them from the comment they didn't write....

Palm Desktop is failing in my Vista system. I run as administrator. It paints the startup screen and then dies. No error messages logged, etc.
What is the estimate completion date, the last estimate was summer, do you have better date?
Dwight

What are we supposed to do when, hopefully soon, the new beta of Palm Desktop gets released, if we are running x64 Vista?

I am in the market for a Palm PDA. I am glad to know that there are hand held PDA's without a phone integrated. I read some posts in this blog that are hoping for a phone to be integrated in the next generation of Palm TX but I strongly oppose an integration of a phone. I like the fact that with a PDA there are no monthly fees and contracts. And with the PDA without a phone, I can used it anywhere I go in the world.
If a phone feature is being considered, I would strongly suggest only including a SIM card slot so if an alternative calling method is needed when travelling, then a person can purchase a prepaid SIM card and just insert it in the Palm TX. For example, if a Palm TX user is traveling abroad where roaming charges apply, they can simply purchase a local SIM card for their PDA. There would be no ear piece or speaker and to make a call, a special ear piece and microphone would have to be used (either Bluetooth or a wire headphone & mic) There would be no actual buttons but instead dialing would be done on the screen with software. Essentially, the design would stay the same, like a PDA should look. Adding Skype calling software internet could be another phone option that will avoid sacrificing design or avoid making it a smartphone.
But please no cell phone integration that would involved getting contract wireless service with a wireless phone company.
I look forward to futher innovation from Palm, especially on the Palm TX that will provide better and more alternatives to getting a smartphone.
Thanks!

I own a 680 and i am very content with it. Okay, the Vista thing does bug me but i'm sure Palm will get an update for that soon. What i like most is that my information is safe on my Treo since it even save's info when the battery ran dead. I use my Treo as my agenda and contactbase with an added phone function. Love it!

I have a Sony Clie with the palm software. It is about 3 or 4 years 'young.' It was been flawless.... Never a problem (knock on wood) and has always performed perfectly....
However, my old computer just crashed, so I purchased a new laptop. It has the new Windows Vista. If I had a choice I would have kept my old XP... that system was great... but there were no options here...
So I just tried to install the palm software and everything was going great until it did not sync properly. I tried and tried... nothing works. I even downloaded something called "Windows Mobile Device Center." It did not work... the computer just does not recognize what is plugged in and cannot find the driver anywhere..
I am assuming that my problem is Vista and not the hardware or the lack of software in the system for the Palm. I installed it the same way that I installed it on XP, and it has worked flawlessly on XP for over 1.5 years...
This is very FRUSTRATING!!! I thought it was a no brainer when I puchased the computer... I just figured that the Palm software would just work on the new windows Vista...
UUUURRRGGGG!!! I completely rely on that system as my contact manager/calendar/To Do List/and Everything Else....i love the product, love the software, love the interface with Palm Desktop.. Why won't it just work..
Any suggestions please reply..
Thank You in Advance!

I don´t want a Treo because the screen is too small. I don´t need a querty keyboard, but they don't see any benefit to them. The Sony is generally considered, It helps your customers not have to worry about buying the right jack or keyboard etc for their units. It helps you guys in the long run. There are lots of Linux users out there who struggle along with marginal integration

I purchased a Palm TX in the past 2 weeks and trying to do a Hot Sync over USB with a Latitude D830 running Vista. Have installed the Palm Beta software and the Hot Sync over USB freezes the TX every time I try to sync. In order to recover I have to disconnect from the laptop and do a reset of the TX. The only way I've been successful at Hot Syncing is via Wi-Fi. I bought this TX to keep an updated calendar for my meetings. Hot Synch via Wi-Fi is not a great way to keep my calendar updated. Very unhappy with my purchase!

I have used a palm Pilot since they first came out. Palm used to have a search function on early palms, where you could search for one or two key words at a time, and the answer would come up. You can still only search for one, but you NO LONGER get the results to the exact search on the desktop! Only on the palm. The desktop only goes to the page that the search is on! If you have a lot of information, it is hard to find on the desktop. Can they not put the search function back so it shows exactly where the word is in the desktop search.

Dell laptop with XP crashed and bought a new HP laptop. I have a Tungsten E Palm device and can't synch it. I downloaded supposedly driver files from PALM website "PalmDesktopWin414e" and ran the exe file but still get error when trying to synch - error message about drivers. Saw lots of issues back in June/July 2007 timeframe and would think these issues have been resolved but can't find a resolution. Please help or lead me to where help is available

I have a Palm Vx and a Sony Clie that has developed some problems. A cracked screen, and a weak battery. I had changed from the Palm to the Clie, and all my info is now in the Clie format on my computer. Can I run both from the same computer, and what program do I use? Is it possible to get a new battery and repair the screen for the Clie. I can get a free Blackberry, but I like having my cel seperate from my organizer, and really like the Clie. Are there any available, or something similar? Any and all help would be appreciated
cheers,
Fraser

I have Palm m515 and would like to set it up to run on my Vista OS. I have not been able to find any information that there is software available to do so. I would purchase the software to get my Palm back to working like it did before with Windows 98. I have dail-up and downloading the beta is out of the question so need to have a CD.
Any news on a release promised for summer??
